12 best solar powered watches
Solar-powered watches are timepieces that use solar cells to convert sunlight or artificial light into electrical energy, which is then stored in a rechargeable battery to power the watch. These watches are known for their eco-friendly and low-maintenance characteristics. Here are some key features and benefits of solar-powered watches:
Energy Source: Solar watches are equipped with tiny photovoltaic cells (solar panels) usually placed beneath the watch's crystal or integrated into the dial. These cells capture light and convert it into electrical energy.
Battery Storage: The electrical energy generated by the solar cells is stored in a rechargeable battery, often a lithium-ion or lithium-polymer battery. This energy powers the watch's movement and functions, ensuring accurate timekeeping.
Eco-Friendly: Solar watches are considered environmentally friendly because they reduce the need for disposable watch batteries, which can contribute to electronic waste. They rely on renewable solar energy, reducing the environmental impact.
Low Maintenance: Solar-powered watches are low maintenance compared to traditional battery-powered watches. They can go for extended periods without needing a battery replacement.
Light Sensing: Most solar watches have light sensors that can detect the intensity of light exposure. They may adjust the watch's power-saving mode or inform the wearer of the watch's current charge level.
Long Power Reserve: Solar watches often have a power reserve that allows them to continue running even when not exposed to light for an extended period (e.g., several months). Some models can go for months or even years without additional light exposure.
Variety of Styles: Solar-powered watches come in various styles, from casual and sporty designs to elegant and dressy models. They are available for both men and women, offering a wide range of choices.
Durability: Solar watches are built to be durable and resistant to the elements. They are typically water-resistant and designed to withstand everyday wear and tear.
Precision: Solar watches use quartz movements, which are known for their accuracy and reliability. They provide precise timekeeping, and some models may feature additional functions such as alarms, calendars, and chronographs.
Indoor Charging: Solar watches can also be charged by indoor lighting, although it may take longer compared to direct sunlight. This feature ensures that the watch remains functional even in indoor or low-light environments.
Solar-powered watches are a sustainable and convenient choice for individuals who appreciate the combination of accurate timekeeping and environmental responsibility. They are suitable for various occasions, from everyday wear to outdoor activities, and offer the convenience of not having to worry about replacing watch batteries regularly.

User questions & answers
Question: | What part of the watch is plastic? Many people complain about the plastic case breaking but the picture appears to show the case being metal |
Answer: | Bisphenol A is used in some plastics. It is typically found in plastic bottles, food containers, dental sealants and is also used to line soda cans. BPA can leach out into whatever you ingest. There is no proof (yet, 2019) of an inhalation health hazard, but large amounts of ingested BPA can have adverse health effects. Don't lick anything plastic or coated with plastic and wash your face and hands before licking them to be safe;) Still, small amounts of BPA won't kill you any more than the sugar in the soda you might drink after a hard day of drilling. |
Question: | Does it need batteries |
Answer: | Typically water is used as a coolant/lubricant for home use with these kind of bits. It's trickled over the area you're working on to keep the friction of the bit against the surface from heating things up and doing damage, like shattering in the case of glass, or ruing the bit in the case of metal. Just be careful not to get it in your rotary tool! |
Question: | Is the band easily adjusted for small wrist |
Answer: | I use a Dremel which I already had but needed some bits for fine wood working. The rest is up to me...... |
Question: | Does the watch automatically change time change |
Answer: | Depends on the rock! Mica chews the blades up really badly, and other shiny or hard stones are really bad for them. Sandstone, granite, and anything with a 'soft gritty' feel to it seems to work out really well. I've made 20+ pendants with these, including both putting single holes (which are a little large! Warning!), doing lines (also a little thicker than I'd like!) and carving them into shapes. Think about 2mm wide holes. I actually love the crap out of these for cutting stone, and work with them a ton. They also work great on bone. If doing glass like the other feller suggests, go very slow, with water, and don't let it heat up or you'll break the glass. You also need to use one of the flat-ended column types at an angle to really carve into it quickly, or the rounded cylinder shape to just press on through. The points will not work for this and are better left to detail work going sideways. There's also different bits in the newer version, including a bit with a fat head, tipped by a thin little "blade round" which is fantastic for straight lines and engraving if you can handle the width. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can a link be easy to remove to adjust the band length |
Answer: | Yes, there are pins that can be pressed out to remove links. One side of the pin is split with a slight bend to make a right fit. Look for the side with a small slit, push out from the opposite side and it should come out easily. If you don't ace a watch band pin press, you can improvise with a small finish nail sanded to have a flat tip. Just be careful not to slip or mar the surface. |
Question: | Is this a genuine seiko watch |
Answer: | By purchasing from Princeton Watches because we are authorized retailers for Seiko you can be assured that we sell only brand-new, first quality, boxed product, with the original manufacturer's warranty. |
Question: | Does it come with tool to adjust the steel band |
Answer: | No, it does not. I used a paper clip to push the pins out. Once you have the required links removed rejoin the ends of the band, insert one of the pins and tap into place. |
Question: | What size spring bar pins does this watch use |
Answer: | Inside width of area for spring bar measured 20 mm so would think the 22 mm size offered would be the size. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How long does the charge last? Other solars last 6 months |
Answer: | It states that the watch dial is black. |
Question: | Is there a way to reset the date or do I have to let the watch run out its charge |
Answer: | I have a Seiko "automatic" (self-winding) watch I bought a number of yrs. ago, with a Hardlex crystal. It has several scratches, even though I only wore it for a year or two before it wouldn't keep time (sometimes lost several mins./hour.) I don't know if I got a lemon, or if Seiko's self-winding watches just can't keep time, which is obviously a significant problem. The Hardlex crystal not being scratch resistant is a smaller problem, but still unacceptable. VERY disappointed in this $100+ watch. However, my $45 battery-powered Casio is the BEST WATCH EVER! Keeps perfect time and the crystal is perfect, despite having been worn 24/7 for 15 yrs. |
Question: | I have a large wrist 8". Will this watch fit or can you add links to the band |
Answer: | The days of the week alternate, so u get Monday in French and then English; Tuesday, same. So you just need to move button till u find the English language day of the week |
Question: | What are the dimensions of this item |
Answer: | The top dial has several functions. In normal mode, the right side of the dial indicates day of the week. The bottom section of the dial is used for setting the alarm, the day, and date. In stopwatch mode, the left section of the dial indicates the power reserve level. A detailed, easy to follow manual is included. |

Answer: | Your question is not clear. |
Question: | Can I order this with a stainless stell band |

Question: | can you buy replacement bands easily...if so where and what size |
Answer: | If your asking if I like it yes. It’s original. |
Question: | I just received this watch from Amazon but I am unhappy with the size diameter of 43 mm. Is there a smaller one available |
Answer: | No, the owner's manual clearly states you have to manually adjust the watch to the correct date. You also must manually adjust for daylight savings time by syncing with a corresponding time zone |
Question: | The watch I just bought doesn't have the 'second' hand line up exactly with each 'second' mark. Does this watch fare any better |
Answer: | Works all over the world. |
Question: | I am having difficulty setting the day & date. Any help would be appreciated |
Answer: | As with previous answers, no extra links. My wrist is 7 3/8ths of an inch, 19cm (small), and the jeweler removed four links, still a little loose. Love the watch. Wish the hour markers glowed in the dark. |
