My orthotics come with a rudimentary insole, and I'm thinking of getting a layer to place above them, once I clear it with my podiatrist. I do feel that the II's are a little smaller than the I's, but I take a 14 and that leaves room for slop. |

| Answer: | I also originally ordered size 13 wide and they were a bit too narrow in the toe region, and they gave me blisters on my little toes. They may have stretched a little over time, but not enough. I really liked the boots, though, so next pair I ordered size 14 D. Even though they're not officially wide, the 14 D's are in fact wider than the 13 EE's. 14 D's fit me perfectly, with plenty of width in the toe box. |

| Answer: | I haven't had a pair of st elias GTX, but have had a pair of Timberland and had a similar brittle metal experience. I purchased a pair of the Vasque mens boots a few months ago and have been impressed with the quality. The upper shoe lace clasps appear to be quite sturdy and are held in place by rivets that go completely through the leather. I haven't warn them enough to know whether the rivets will eventually pull out, but the metal appears to be strong. |
