2 best cold weather waterproof boots
Cold weather waterproof boots, often referred to as winter hiking boots, are designed to keep your feet warm, dry, and comfortable in cold, wet, and snowy conditions. These boots are essential for outdoor activities like hiking, trekking, and other winter adventures. Here are some key features and considerations related to cold weather waterproof boots:
Insulation: Cold weather boots are typically insulated to provide warmth in freezing temperatures. Common insulation materials include Thinsulate, PrimaLoft, and synthetic materials. The level of insulation can vary, so choose a boot that matches the expected weather conditions.
Waterproofing: The primary feature of these boots is their waterproofing. They often have a waterproof membrane, such as Gore-Tex, which prevents water from entering while allowing moisture to escape, keeping your feet dry even in wet conditions.
Outsole: The outsole of cold weather boots should provide excellent traction on slippery surfaces, such as snow and ice. Look for boots with aggressive tread patterns and non-slip rubber compounds for better grip.
Materials: High-quality materials like full-grain leather and synthetic textiles are commonly used for the upper part of the boots. Leather offers durability and water resistance, while synthetic materials may be lighter and more breathable.
Lacing system: A good lacing system is crucial for a secure fit and to prevent snow or moisture from entering the boot. Some boots have quick-lace systems for easy adjustment in cold conditions.
Warmth: In extremely cold conditions, you may want to consider boots with additional features for warmth, such as a removable insulating liner or a heat-reflective lining.
Fit: It's important to choose boots that fit well, allowing for proper circulation to keep your feet warm. Be sure to wear appropriate socks, preferably moisture-wicking and insulating, to maximize comfort.
Weight: Consider the weight of the boots, as heavier boots may provide better insulation but can be less comfortable for long hikes. Balancing insulation and weight is essential.
Height: The height of the boot can vary from ankle-height to mid-calf or higher.Taller boots provide more protection against snow entering the boot but can be less comfortable for some hikers.
Brand and Reviews: Look for reputable brands known for their quality and durability in outdoor footwear. Reading customer reviews and seeking recommendations from experienced hikers can also be helpful in making your choice.
Remember that proper care and maintenance of your cold weather waterproof boots are essential to ensure their longevity and performance. Regularly clean and re-waterproof them to maintain their waterproof capabilities and insulating properties. Additionally, breaking in your boots before embarking on long hikes is a good practice to prevent blisters and discomfort on the trail.

User questions & answers
Question: | Are they really waterproof? Some reviews said the boots are not waterproof, some said they are. I wonder if they got them from different sellers |
Answer: | You would need a lace up type boot for snow shoeing and rain bots for slush, About the only winter sport I'd use this type of boot would be snowmobiling and ice fishing north of the 45th parallel |
Question: | Are these good for extended snow shoeing and winter hiking in snow / slush |
Answer: | I nearly always wear size 10. I ordered size 10 M and they fit just right with regular socks. Very comfy, easy to drive the car with them on. Seem quite warm so far. I've worn them in 15 below to 15 above temps in deep snow. I like them! |
Question: | I wear a size 10 reg shoe, if I order a size 10reg boot will I be ok |
Answer: | The claim is that they will keep your feet warm to -40 degrees. I live in Southwest Michigan and the coldest its been this winter is -15 with the wind chill. I was outside for more than an hour and they kept my feet warm. I also like them because they slip on and off easily. Make sure that if you have a 1/2 size... to round up to the next size when ordering. |
Question: | Are these as warm as they say |
Answer: | No traction, so you will not only slip but the boots also leak. However, you will look cute. |
