Answer:	In a sense they are because the flexible strap, but they also have laces like a traditional shoe.

Answer:	Yes, to the best of my knowledge they are. They are really great shoes at an exceptional price. I own a cleaning business and walk at least 7 miles a day while working and these hold up great!

Answer:	These are wider, I have the same issues with the merrell shoes also, unless I order a half size up then they seem to have more room. With these shoes I ordered my true size and I was shocked how well they fit and didn’t feel like they were squeezing my toes!

Answer:	I ordered a size 8 and the shoe shows 39.5 However, my Vibram fivefingers are 39. I would suggest going for the 8. Definitely don't go down a size. These seem shorter than the Merrell size 8 I tried and are a bit narrow for me in the toe box. at least returns are easy.
Question:	Water resistant enough to wear in the rain
Answer:	Your feet will not stay dry in rain. I do not run in my shoes I own a cleaning business and do where them to walk the interiors and exteriors of large properties even in the rain. They dry quickly and despite having minimal padding they have not rubbed my feet. The toe area is wide and extremely comfortable.

Answer:	No. They open partially at the top. They adjust with elasticized drawstrings and velcro straps across the top of the foot.

Answer:	I recently ordered 7.5-8 because I wear a size 8 but had to return them, too small. I'm going to order the 8.5-9 and hope they're not too big. Size 9 should be 8.5-9 or next size after that. The first time I ordered these they were normal sizes and fit true to size.

Answer:	I think most likely you will be fine with the 6. I wear 9.5 for athletic and 9 for any other kind and I got a 9. The fabric is so thin and the shoe is kinda wide on the toes area. My chubby feet loves these.
