Our underground wiring was here when we moved in back in 1993, the previous owner used 12 gauge power wire, made for underground. We replaced the fence driver module and got new collars about 8 years ago. We are on our 3rd dog with this fence. I assume it will work with a cat... if you can "train it". There is about a 10 to 12 foot wide zone with the buried wire in the middle, the collar is active only in this zone! I used the collar and the neon test light to set the white flags inner boundary. They were spaced about 12 to 15 feet apart. We walked the perimeter daily with the dog, pulling him back and saying "White flag!" at each flag. Occasionally he reacted to the sound, then if he stayed long enough the shock began. Soon he was staying back of the flags. We go through a routine before he goes out, "put your collar on", saying "White flag", then let him out. However he has gone after deer a couple of times, full speed takes two leaps to clear the fence (the warning sounds twice, by then he has cleared)! Then he is trapped outside with a sad face, looking back inside. We have to go to him, remove collar, and lead him back inside, then replace the collar. |
