Answer: Out of five pair I ordered, three were made in Mexico. I returned them all for paper-thin, stiff, bad quality. One pair (501's) was made in Egypt. The pair that felt like Real Levi's (dark stonewash 505's) were made in Bangladesh and we're soft, drapey and heavy.

Answer: In order to get the closest to 501 (which are button fly) the good ole Levi's, make sure that the jeans you are looking at are made of 100% cotton, and say "shrink to fit", they will be dark denim and stiff. If they are lighter denims, they are likely NOT 100% cotton like the real Levi's were back in the day. The pair I purchased said "shrink to fit" rigid, and were 100% cotton and a very dark denim. These are the only ones I have found that are even close to the good old levis, unless you look on the levis web site and are prepared to shell out over $100 and up.

Question: Are these jeans color as pictured
Answer: Tough question. Generally yes, but it depends on the resolution of your computer monitor. What I ordered was a bit off from the color on my screen, but I could live with it. The color descriptions on the web site are totally ridiculous and clearly not customer friendly (e.g., "rigid dragon", "the rich", "timberwolf", "I'll get you." ) One conclusion is that Levi's must think customers are stupid - how could anyone possibly make sense of those color names.. One the other hand, maybe there is no agreed upon definition of how to define a color with specificity, so they totally make up color names.. My approach was to drive to a Levis outlet to look at the colors but not everyone can do that. Only other option - give it your best shot and return them if the color does not work. By the way, the issue of materials is relevant. I ordered a black pair, thinking that I was getting regular Levis, but in black. So wrong. What arrived It is more like canvas than denim. Good luck. In spite of all that, I still wear the 541 stretch jeans, and work through these difficulties.

Answer: We apologize for the confusion, there shouldn't be two different titles and we will try to get this fixed asap. But to answer your question.......the leg opening to the 541 Athletic fit jeans is slightly smaller but very close to our 513 Slim Straight and our 501 Original fit (which also has a straight leg opening).......HOWEVER, because the 541 Athletic fit has extra room in the seat and thigh (to accommodate an "athletic build"), the "appearance" of the leg opening is slightly tapered. In other words, the actual measurement is close to a straight jean but the jean LOOKS slightly tapered because the top half is looser. Does that make sense?

Answer: Hi. The colors are similar (lighter shade of indigo) but the difference is the fabric content. Lake Merrit is a lighter weight (10.5 oz) stretch denim made of 92% Cotton, 7% Polyester and 1% Elastane. The Perseus fabric is from the Performance Strong collection and it's made of 93% Cotton, 4% Polyester, 2% Polyethylene and 1% Elastane. The fabric weight of Perseus is heavier (13 oz). Answer: Ridgid jeans have never been washed. They are a darker blue and stiffer than rinsed jeans. The rinsed version is a softer version because they have been washed. Rinsed also fit a little snugger but still run true to size.
Question: can you still buy 29X36 517 bell bottoms in dark blue
Answer: 517 was never a "bell bottom". The 517 is a boot cut jean, a narrow leg with a slight flare to fit over a boot. And the longest you can get that waist is 29x34 but Levis.com does carry 30x36.
Question: Rigid, rinsed, or rinsed washed, which are original
Answer: The original Levi's were sewn together from new finished bolts of fabric. There was no "washing" or "stressed" fabric preparation. All that "stressed" stuff came after people wanted their Levi's to look worn so they didn't have to "break them in" themselves. You can spot the "stressed" Levi's a mile away. Why would someone pay more for 1/2 warn out pants, some even have holes in them (new?)! Originals go back 135 years, the pre stressed products go back 15 or 20 years or so., before that there was no "washed" or "stressed".
