14 best motorola adsl modems
Motorola ADSL modems are not directly related to Carrier Cell Phones, Cell Phones, or Cell Phones Accessories. Instead, they are networking devices used to establish high-speed internet connections over Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) technology. However, we can provide information about Motorola ADSL modems:
Purpose: Motorola ADSL modems are used to connect to the internet via ADSL, which is a broadband technology that uses existing copper telephone lines to transmit data at high speeds. These modems serve as a bridge between the internet service provider (ISP) and the user's home or office network.
Features:
- ADSL Compatibility: Motorola modems are designed to work with ADSL technology, which allows for faster downloads than traditional dial-up connections.
- Multiple Ports: They typically come with Ethernet ports for connecting computers, routers, or other networking devices.
- Integrated Router: Some Motorola ADSL modems also include a built-in router, allowing multiple devices to share the internet connection.
- Security: They often include firewall and security features to protect the user's network from unauthorized access.
Installation: Installing a Motorola ADSL modem involves connecting it to the telephone line and configuring it with the ISP's settings. Users may need to enter their ISP's username and password to establish the internet connection.
Compatibility: Motorola ADSL modems may be compatible with various ADSL standards, such as ADSL1, ADSL2, or ADSL2+.The compatibility depends on the specific model of the modem.
Maintenance: Regular firmware updates and security checks may be necessary to keep the modem operating efficiently and securely.
ISP-Provided Modems: In many cases, ISPs provide their customers with ADSL modems, which are often pre-configured to work seamlessly with their internet service. However, some users prefer to purchase their own modem, such as a Motorola model, for greater control and flexibility.
Advantages: Using a Motorola ADSL modem can provide faster and more reliable internet connections compared to older dial-up technology. It is particularly useful for users who require high-speed internet access for online activities like streaming, gaming, or working from home.
Replacement and Upgrades: Over time, users may need to replace their ADSL modems due to technological advancements or hardware failures. Upgrading to a newer model can lead to improved performance and features.
In conclusion, Motorola ADSL modems are networking devices designed to facilitate high-speed internet connections using ADSL technology. They offer features like multiple ports, integrated routers, and security measures to ensure a reliable and secure internet experience for users.

User questions & answers
Question: | How warm does this modem run? Some of the more recent SB modems ran too hot, leading to early failure |
Answer: | Handling of heat was definitely considered in the MB7420 design. All cable modems generate heat, the good designs get rid of the heat efficiently. The MB7420 is very well ventilated on both sides and on the top, and has robust heat sinks on the circuit board to dissipate the heat. The vertical design also helps air circulation. The two year warranty is the longest in the industry and speaks to the durability of the product. With that said, definitely do not operate the MB7420 on its side. The MB7420 is intended to be in a vertical position. |
Question: | Are the leds insanely bright like on other motorola modems |
Answer: | Whether the LEDs have the right amount of brightness is an opinion. The MB7420 LED brightness was reduced in response to user reviews on earlier modem designs. Definitely attention was paid to the output level and the electronic design throttled back the brightness. You will probably find it a good, but can't say for sure. Your opinion would be welcome. |
Question: | Can the stabilizing foot be removed so the modem can lay on its side? Is it screwed/clipped on |
Answer: | The foot is attached with 2 screws under the label. It is designed to stand up on the foot to allow for adequate cooling for the modem at high speeds. It is not designed to lay flat on its side with one panel blocked. It is recommended that both side panels and the top not be blocked. Laying it on its side and blocking the ventilation could produce improper operation and unit failure. |
Question: | Is this part of the arris motorola surfboard line up of modems |
Answer: | No, it is not. This is a much newer design. The MB7420 has a Full Band Capture Digital Tuner, upgraded power handling to protect against lightning and power surges, robust heat sinks to handle a broad temperature range. And the MB7420 looks a lot better than the Arris SB6141. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I want to buy this latest model mg7700 asap, when is gonna available |
Answer: | Not sure about the answer to your question. The MG7700 is very popular at the moment and all you can do is keep monitoring availability. |
Question: | What is the range of this modem? I'm looking for a strong signal throughout a 4,000 sq ft home |
Answer: | Model MG7700 should provide coverage to a large house. Unfortunately, because of so many variables involved, there isn't a way to measure the range (or speed) experience a user will have. Factors, including positioning of the Gateway, building materials, obstruction or even your neighbors WiFi usage, play a role in what will both range and speed. That said, model MG7700 is equipped with a sophisticated built in Dual Band AC 1900 WiFi router. Support for concurrent 2.4 and 5 GHz bands with AnyBeam beamforming at those bands, focuses the signal on wireless clients to allow further improvements to wireless performance, including range. Model MG7700's built in WiFi router will increase your chances for a better WiFi experience over other Gateways on the market. |
Question: | Do you have to pay for extended phone tech support in the event it stops working |
Answer: | Motorola has a pretty decent 2 year warranty, with good phone support even through this Novel Corona-virus causing many companies to lessen customer support. This is a solid modem that saves me $185 every year with Comcast. It's interesting as I had Comcast service 12 years ago and back then one could own their own modem to save you $15, but they would charge you the same $15 for the access card a month. I went back to Comcast as Frontier is at deaths door. These days Comcast doesn't charge for the access card as the FCC put the kibosh on cable companies being in the cable rental business. At the end of the day, this Motorola's paid for itself twice over and still counting. |
Question: | Are you able to install firmware updates? When I owned a combo modem+router, Cox locked out firmware updates because it was a cable modem |
Answer: | No, you can't personally update the firmware, apparently, the cable company gets it from Motorola, and updates it for you. I guess for compatibility or maybe some other reason. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How easy is set up on this device? Would I have to call my provider (Comcast |
Answer: | It is super easy to set-up, however you usually have to contact comcast with any new device because they have to put it on their system. I basically plugged it in and called comcast, they found the device on the network and I was up and running. The only other step you need is to go into the device setup (the ip address is on the label) and login and set up your username and password for your accounts. There are other settings you can set, but for a basic setup that is all you need to do. |
Question: | What is the difference between this one and the $89.99 that you also offer |
Answer: | The MG7550 is both a 16X4 modem and an AC1900 router integrated into a single unit. The MB7420 is a 16X4 modem, but does not include an integrated wireless router. The $89.99 MB7420 would typically be used with a wireless router. The MG7550 has a very powerful router built in. |
Question: | Is this a 32 band modem |
Answer: | The MG7550 supports the 250 Mbps and 300 Mbps services which are the fastest offered by the major service providers using DOCSIS 3.0. The MG7550 does not support 32 channels down, but as a caution, 32 channels is not likely to buy you anything more. The next major cable modem speed increase will use a technology called DOCSIS 3.1. That new technology is at least a year away for most people and will be a premium-priced service. The major cable service providers are very unlikely to use more than 16 channels for DOCSIS 3.0 because that would not be an efficient use of their networks. So buying a DOCSIS 3.0 device with more than a 16 channels down is not likely to buy you anything. |
Question: | Sellers keep saying the range is excellent. what exactly is the range for this router? numbers please. i need facts before i invest |
Answer: | The range you will get is highly dependent upon what kind of building you are in and how many other wireless signals are in the area. The range you will get in an apartment with concrete walls is much different from the range you will get in a suburban house with drywall interior walls. Results are also highly dependent upon what client (notebook, tablet, phone etc.) you are using. There is an independent study by Netperian that compares the speeds and range of competing AC1900 cable modem gateways. Various building types are used in the test and speed ratings were taken in each room of the buildings. The results were that the Motorola MG7550 is MUCH better than Arris and significantly better than Netgear. The report is over 40 pages long, so you will readily see a few numbers for range are only partial information. With all of that said, in an open field the MG7550 averaged 214 Mbps download speeds at 1000 feet and 475 Mbps at 100 feet. Those were much better data rates than Netgear or Arris with identical conditions. |

User questions & answers
Question: | So how do control the cable modem if comcast doesn't provide one |
Answer: | Once you install the modem you can either go online and register the device or call Comcast with the serial number. It will then activate and you are good to go. I’ve had no issues with mine at all. And online registration was very easy. |
Question: | Quick start quide says it doesn't have wifi capability or router. so, can i get to xfinitywifi wirelessly or not |
Answer: | Model MB7621 is a bridge modem, or a Cable modem without a built in WiFi router. You can either purchase an all in one (modem with the built in WiFi router) such as a Motorola MG7700, or purchase a a WiFi router to connect to the MB7621. |
Question: | Which one is better for my needs - the mb-7621 or the mb-7420? comcast highest speed for home use is 150 mbps and 100 for downloads |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this compatible with AT&T |
Answer: | Model MT7711 or any (DOCSIS Cable modem/router) is NOT compatible with AT&T. |
Question: | I just updated my account to the 1000mbps plan and I want to get the most of it. Would I be able to get the 1000mbps download with this device |
Answer: | My internet speed when Comcast provides xfi modem is >300 Mbps down (even wifi) which is what my plan is. However everytime I plug this modem and replace comcast modem - the internet wired connections throttles at a max of ~174 Mbps Wifi sucks at ~74 Mbps Upstairs ~43 Mbps Very disappointed with this product. I have spent numerous hours with comcast tech and they rewired my connections. NO LUCK !!! |
Question: | Mt7711 reverts to eroute_dualmode from bridge mode either upon reboot or triggered by xfinity. has anyone figured out how to keep it in bridge mode |
Answer: | Bridging the connection is entirely dependent on your internet service provider. Some providers have a configuration file which will overwrite the bridge mode any time you reboot your modem (When your modem or gateway reaches out to their DHCP server, it locks to your modem's MAC address). You can try calling your internet service provider and ask them to release your DHCP lease, which will make the network have to relearn what MAC is associated with your account. However, it may not be permanent and will just revert to previous settings again. If you have more questions, please call our support team at 1-800-753-0797 (Monday-Friday 8:30am-10pm, Saturday 8:30am-5pm Eastern Time) |
Question: | I have comcast triple play and plan to reduce service to comcast internet only with Ooma phone. Is this a good choice to accomplish this transition |
Answer: | I also have Comcast/Xfinity Triple Play. With all of the Premium channels it cost me $159.00 per month when I add the phone and went to Triple Play 3 years ago. Late last year my monthly bill had gone up to $292.00 per month and they were talking about raising the price another $18. I dropped all of the Premium channels, turned in one of the three HD adapters and bought this MT17711 so I didn't have to rent one monthly. My bill dropped down to $191.30. This modem is excellent. It has faster Internet speeds and my devices located outside no longer drop off. I still have the X1 DVR and can live without the Premium Channels. Installation was simple and all done right online without having to call Xfinity. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this have a wifi on/off button |
Answer: | Not a stupid question as visitors with EMF sensitivity need the wifi turned off and unplugging is not convenient. |
Question: | Will it broadcast in both 2.4 and 5 at the same time |
Answer: | Model MG7550 will broadast in both at the same time. |
Question: | What is the difference between the mg7540 and mg |
Answer: | The MG7540 has AnyBeam beamforming for only the 5 GHz that will focus the signal on wireless clients to allow better performance and range The MG7550 has AnyBeam beamforming for both the 2 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies which focuses the signal on wireless clients to further enhance performance and range. The MG7550 also has the capability of wireless Power Boost which adds high-performance Wi-Fi power amplifiers to boost the wireless signals to the legal limit, giving a significant boost in speed and range. |
Question: | How difficult is the configuration process |
Answer: | There wasn't much to the setup. I took the modem/router out of the box and connected it to the cable/internet wall plug. With Comcast I was able to do the setup over the internet (using my phone). It only took a few minutes over the internet versus calling Comcast. |
Product features
Compatible with Most Cable Providers
Certified by Comcast Xfinity, Cox, Charter Spectrum, and other cable providers.*†
* Not compatible with Verizon, AT&T, CenturyLink, and other fiber optic, satellite, or DSL services.
† This cable modem/router does not have telephone jacks for the support of voice calls.
Fast Internet Speed
For other service providers, supported service speeds are similar to Comcast.
Connect All Your Devices
The built-in router provides high-speed shared Internet access to smartphones, HDTVs, computers, tablets, game stations, streaming media devices, and other Ethernet and WiFi devices.
Better WiFi with AC1600 Dual Band
Dual band gives you two WiFi networks operating simultaneously in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Single band routers only use the 2.4 GHz band. This band is often full of interference as all your devices share that single band with your neighbors. The 5 GHz band in dual band products is typically much less crowded and has less interference. The bottom line? Dual band delivers much better WiFi.
Beamforming
AnyBeam WiFi beamforming at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz focuses the wireless signal on your wireless devices to further enhance wireless performance.
Clean and Easy
Integrating the modem and router saves space, reduces wires and power cubes, and provides a single user interface.

User questions & answers
Question: | How is this model different than the arris surfboard sb |
Answer: | Yes it is a ADSL2+ Modem/Router combo. For Wireless networking it was useless. I even changed to a higher gain antenna combination. I used if for two weeks then got rid of it. I've tried 6 different Modem/Router Combo's over the last year. My service Provider, CenturyLink will not replace a broken Modem/Router. They make you lease one from them. Their equipment has normally been CRAP as far as performance and networking distance. I have been using a TP-LINK TD-W8970 for the past two month's 24/7 without any problems and it has a superior range to any of the others I've tried in the past. I have 6 computers on my home network with the farthest one being located in a small workshop in the back yard approx. 250ft from the TP-Link Modem/Router which is located in a separate room in the house. The three antenna's really make a difference. If you require a dual band modem/router TP-Link has one also, but I only needed a single band one. Hope this helps. |
Question: | Going with the cable modem option what’s the best router to pair this with for spectrum |
Answer: | The Zoom Modem/Router comes with a line-splitter which plugs into the phone line wall outlet. The router plugs into one side of the splitter and your phone plugs into the other side. This is standard for all DSL internet line internet services. |
Question: | How many devices can connect at once? Is that that the 8x refers to |
Answer: | Yes, you absolutely can. You can use any device that has a built in web browser and the GUI is fully functional. Here is a link for the ASUS RT-AC3200 setup video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8HjIJf7joY |
Question: | Do I also have to buy a router for the modem? And to make sure it obviously speeds up internet connection right |
Answer: | The number of devices depends on how they are connected and what they are doing. Wired devices only use the router's CPU as they pass traffic, wireless devices use the CPU and radio recourses. This router has a pretty powerful CPU, so I would expect it to handle wired devices well (having said that, it designed for home/small business use so there could be unknown limitations in the software). Radio is tricky to predict because there are so many unknown factors. I would not plan to have more than about 15 active wireless devices on this kind of router, but it can probably maintain a connection to a greater number of devices if they are mostly idle and well divided between the 3 bands. It also depends on what kind of data the devices use. If it is basic webpages without a lot of graphics and video, then you can have more devices than if they used a lot of bandwidth. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this unit work with our centurylink adsl service |
Answer: | I think the main difference is that the C3000Z's wireless is 5G compatible. |
Question: | How is this different/better than the C1100Z |
Answer: | CenturyLink installed the C3000Z as the router to use for their gigabit fiber service - so yes, it does work with 1gb from CenturyLink. I wouldn't call it a modem, although they refer to it as such because that's what most people think is used to connect to the Internet but it is a decent enough router for most people's needs. We'll be upgrading to an ASUS router in the near future for more flexible configuration and better penetration in our home. |
Question: | Can this modem handle 1gb from Century Link |
Answer: | Yes, I have Centutylink with a bonded connection and run Netgear for my router |
Question: | Does this support bridge mode so you can use your own router |
Answer: | Just wanted to say that the set up was fairly easy, but NetGear was great to make sure we had all completed. Their customer service was very impressive. I recently upgraded to a higher speed via Windstream and it came with a new router/dsl unit and so far so good, BUT I will be reconfiguring and going back to the NETGEAR unit when I have time. |
