Answer: You'd have to ask the sellers. From what I can tell the only ones available are used, so I wouldn't expect a very long warranty.I can testify that it is a very sturdy lens, having dropped my camera, lens down, on a cement floor, and it still works very well. I did have a UV protective filter that shattered, but the lens and camera survived.

Answer: I would suggest the 100mm L macro if you really need it to do double duty, as it is a good macro, and a suitable portrait lens. Other options might include using extension tubes with a non-macro portrait lens like the wonderful 85mm f1.2 L lens. It depends on your needs in both types of shooting. Keep in mind there are lots of ways to do macro on the cheap, like using an old (used) FD lens with a reversing ring and/or bellows. Reversing rings, FD to EOS adapters, and Chinese knock-off bellows are available here on Amazon, as well as extension tubes, and extension cables to allow even EOS lenses to be stopped down while reversed. On a reversing ring, pretty much any lens (Canon or other brands like Minolta, Nikon, Pentax, etc.,.) can be used if it has a manual aperture ring. Incidentally, I have all of these setups, including the 65mm MP-E. I find them all useful, depending on what I'm trying to do. These are tried and true methods which can produce very good results.

It's "L" glass and you can't go wrong with that, but if you are sticking t=with the T3 and just want to shoot some nice macro shots, Canon sells an EF-S macro lens for $1,000 less with a larger aperture that takes excellent photos and you can get in as close as 0.2m (a little less than 8 inches) where this lens only gets in to about 18 inches (of course that can be a good thing). In any event, the EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM is a great macro lens for an EF-S camera.
