14 best elementary sciences
Elementary science education plays a crucial role in fostering students' curiosity and understanding of the natural world. It encompasses various branches of science, such as biology, chemistry, physics, and Earth science, tailored to the developmental stages and abilities of elementary school students.
Curriculum: The elementary science curriculum typically introduces fundamental scientific concepts in an age-appropriate manner. Students learn about topics like the water cycle, the solar system, basic chemistry, and the properties of matter.
Hands-on Learning: Hands-on activities and experiments are a cornerstone of elementary science education. These activities help students explore scientific concepts through observation, experimentation, and discovery.
Inquiry-Based Learning: Teachers often encourage students to ask questions and develop critical thinking skills through inquiry-based learning. This approach fosters a deeper understanding of scientific principles.
Interdisciplinary Approach: Elementary science often integrates with other subjects like mathematics, language arts, and social studies. For example, students may learn about the history of famous scientists, write reports on science topics, or use math to analyze scientific data.
Science Textbooks: Elementary science textbooks are designed to be engaging and age-appropriate. They include colorful illustrations, simple explanations, and activities to reinforce learning.
Assessment: Assessments in elementary science education may include quizzes, tests, and projects. These evaluations gauge students' understanding and knowledge retention.
STEM Education: Elementary schools increasingly emphasize STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education to prepare students for future careers. STEM activities and projects are integrated into science lessons to promote problem-solving and critical thinking.
Environmental Education: Many elementary science programs also incorporate lessons on environmental awareness and sustainability, teaching students about the importance of protecting the planet.
Teacher Training: Elementary science teachers undergo specialized training to effectively teach science concepts to young learners. This training equips them with strategies for making science engaging and accessible.
Resources: In addition to textbooks, elementary science education utilizes a wide range of educational resources, including videos, interactive websites, and educational games to make learning more engaging.
Standardized Testing: Some regions may have standardized tests in elementary science to assess students' proficiency in the subject.
Science Fairs: Many elementary schools organize science fairs where students can showcase their scientific experiments and projects, fostering a passion for science.
Elementary science education serves as the foundation for students' future scientific literacy and can inspire them to pursue careers in science and technology fields. It aims to make learning about the natural world enjoyable and accessible while nurturing students' curiosity and critical thinking skills.

From author, educator and television personality Steve Spangler
Steve Spangler is dedicated to finding the most creative ways to make science fun and interesting for kids. With more than 1,300 television appearances to his credit, Steve is a regular guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where she dubbed him “America’s Science Teacher.”
Most experiments can be done in 10 minutes or less
Though most projects typically take no more than 10 minutes to conduct, the book includes a number of experiments that extend the learning over an entire weekend. Each experiment includes step-by-steps instructions and photos designed to maximize comprehension and enjoyment.
50 experiments that teach the basics of physics and chemistry for ages 7 - 11
Experiments range from the simple, yet surprising (Q: How many drops of water can fit on a penny? A: More than you’d imagine!) to the more complex and mind-blowing (Extract DNA from a strawberry – or build a working movie projector with a box, a magnifying glass and a mobile phone!).
Learn the scientific method and more
Readers will learn critical thinking skills as well as how to use the scientific method to understand even more about what’s happening during each activity. Intriguing sidebars and trivia tidbits keep kids learning even when they’re not working in the “lab.”
Shove two plastic water bottles in a big bowl of ice
Keep the bottles close to the center of the bowl and buried in the ice as much as possible.
Grab some rock salt!
Scatter a generous amount of rock salt all over the surface of the ice.
Monitor the temperature
Insert a thermometer into the ice between the bottles. The temperature will fall slowly over the next half hour or so. Add more ice and salt to keep the bottles buried. Once the temperature reaches 17 degrees F, move on to the next step.
Instant freeze!
After the water has been this cold for 10 minutes, gently remove a bottle from the ice. Strike the bottom of the bottle sharply against the table and ice crystals should immediately form near the top of the bottle and quickly move down through the liquid, turning it into a solid mass of ice. Twist open the cap of the second bottle and the water will freeze from the bottom up.
