| Answer: | I am no longer in possession of this rather expensive grooming tool, I gave it as a gift. I do not believe it was made of stainless steel as I do recall there forming rust spots. Also stainless steel is not ideal for sharpening. I was put off in owning this razor as it specifically gave instructions to not even rub your finger against the blade, that it was some how perfectly sharpened and mere mortals should not dare alter this perfection. The weak thing is that it was not really sharp enough to do a decent job giving a shave out of the box and other owners recommended handing out additional money to pay a blade honer to give it the edge it needs. Presently I use a cheap refillable straight razor that came with 100 refillable shark tooth razors. It had a plastic handle that broke at the joint, but it still handles much like this much more expensive razor from Dovo, in terms of closeness of shave and technique of handling and precautions of use. What I own is similar to this.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L9LS0NS?psc=1I can shave my face and have also shaved my scalp after using scissors to get off most of the hair. It is true that you will be deprived the experience of sharpening your own blade, but even with this razor that is only a privilege professional honers are entitled to. Though my previous experience attempting that on my very first straight edge let me know just how time consuming and prone to error that process is. I have owned my refillable one for over 5 years and still have not needed to purchase another pack of 100 blades. Then again I also tweezer my facial hairs so our experience will likely differ.But to summarize, I don't believe it is stainless steel because 1) it developed rust spots. 2) You need carbon steel to work with to hone and hold a razor edge, this was the issue with my very first razor I purchased over Amazon, which I also purchased inadequate strap and sharpening stones for which were only good for scratching up my blade and making the edge more jagged not much more. |

| Answer: | It's funny you ask that question... I just spent a whole day with Jens on September 14th, 2017 (he is managing director for Dovo / Merkur is soligen, Germany.). One of the topics we spoke about is this so called myth that Dovo straight razors are not shave ready. Jens assured me all Dovo straight razors when they leave their factory are 100% shave ready. I know there are several shaving blogs debating this very same topic. Such as the guru himself Lee Abrams and others. Well just so you know Dovo actually changed their policy (a few years back) to void their warranty in USA if one of these such gurus so called " professionally honed their razors. Bottom line is this ...Dovo razors are 100% shave ready out of the box! This is not my professionally opinion, but the word from the managing director Thanks Seller FGP |

| Answer: | In theory....yes. But only in theory. In reality how much it is used determines the longevity of a straight razor. I see many users go back to resharpen their razors over and over again....in many cases it is unnecessary to do so, the last time I resharpen my SRs like 2-3 years ago, I don't even remember exactly how long ago. I use a barber's hone for touch-ups and that takes care of the edge of my SR. No wonder my SRs look and feel like brand new razors.....oh, btw I do have 9 razors in the rotation, so I never use a razor twice, no matter how confy the shave is. I hope this helps. |
