Answer:	I believe the difference is that the compact is more compact in size thus better suited for traveling. I also feel the bristle design works better on short beard as well as longer beards since the bristles are more tightly packed on the compact design brush. The overall shape of the compact brush also conforms better to the face I therefore would highly recommend the compact over the max design.

Answer:	Made in the US, and my beard has never looked better. The ceramic heaters contact all of my beard ensuring all hair gets heat. 360 degrees F seems to be enough heat for my beard, however, the device will reach 400 degrees F. The cord swivels to provide easy access to either side of the face. I use the brush every other day and my beard is healthy, fuller, and growing.
