Alcohol doesn't break down any protein or blood that may get on the needles. It recommended dishwashing liquid + hot water in a small plastic container, and vigorously swishing the head around in it while avoiding contact with the container itself. Rinse thoroughly then move on to the alcohol soak: the alcohol should be at least 70%, soak for 10 minutes, air dry, then cover ASAP to keep clean and protect needles. Hope that helps!
