Answer:	I am a battery scientist with a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering. To answer your question, your battery will last longer if you charge it more frequently. The fact is every lithium ion battery will degrade as it cycles, however the amount of degradation also depends on the depth of discharge. In the case of your question, if you keep it on the charger every night, the depth of discharge (DoD) would be very small - around 2-3% - and thus the number of usable cycles would be in the thousands. If you only charged it when the battery was at its lowest, say 90% DoD, the number of cycles you could expect would be around 300. From an engineering perspective, the lithium ion battery in this device is overkill. Philips says the battery lasts 3 weeks on a charge. This is vastly superior compared on a similar toothbrush that uses a Ni-MH. I actually bought this toothbrush to replace a sonicare with a lithium ion battery that I had for 10 years. The reason I bought a new one is because the metal tip broke off. The battery still held its charge for two weeks at a time. In conclusion, the battery in this device is overkill and makes for a rubust device. Philips could have cheaped out - like what Braun does - and given you a Ni-MH battery but instead the lithium ion in this gives superior performance. Keep it on the charger every night and the battery will last 5-10 years. If you only charge it every 3 weeks, the battery will likely last 15-20 years. Happy brushing!
