Answer:	I wouldn't recommend this vacuum for your mother. This vacuum works great for low to medium pile carpets. While it is very light, it is noticebly much harder to push through plush carpet. Did a quick search on google and the Soniclean Soft Carpet Combo Vacuum seems like it'll be good for your mom. Relatively light (10lbs) and excellent marks for shag carpet (both pushing and cleaning). Hope this helps.
