14 best cloth diaper inserts

It's important to ensure that the inserts you choose are compatible with the diapers you plan to use.

  • Natural and Synthetic Materials: Cloth diaper inserts are available in both natural and synthetic materials. Natural fibers like cotton, bamboo, and hemp are known for their absorbency and breathability. Synthetic materials like microfiber are also absorbent and quick-drying, but they may be less breathable.

  • Wash and Care: Proper care is essential to maintain the absorbency and longevity of cloth diaper inserts. Most inserts can be machine-washed and dried, but it's important to follow the manufacturer's care instructions to prevent damage or loss of absorbency.

  • Cost-Effective: Cloth diaper inserts are reusable, making them a cost-effective option for diapering your baby over time. They can be used for multiple diaper changes, reducing the overall cost compared to disposable diapers.

  • Environmental Benefits: Cloth diapering, including the use of cloth diaper inserts, is an environmentally friendly choice as it reduces the volume of disposable diapers that end up in landfills. Reusable inserts contribute to less waste generation.

  • Customizable Absorbency: Cloth diapering allows you to customize the level of absorbency by choosing different types and quantities of inserts. This flexibility is particularly useful as your baby grows and their diapering needs change.

  • Comfort and Breathability: Cloth diaper inserts are designed to be comfortable for your baby, with natural fibers providing good breathability. This can help reduce the likelihood of diaper rash and discomfort.

  • Overall, cloth diaper inserts are an important component of modern cloth diapering systems, offering parents a cost-effective, eco-friendly, and customizable solution for diapering their babies while maintaining comfort and absorbency.

    User questions & answers

Question: Can this touch the skin or do you need a fleece liner as well
Answer: It can touch the skin however we suggest washing 4-5 times before first use so that the insert becomes more absorbent
Question: Can these be used with Alva baby (LBB) AI2 cloth diapers
Answer: I think the diaper you are referencing is a pocket type diaper. If that is the case I recommend looking for the inserts from naturally nature that do not have the gussetted sides and are flat. I think they might be a little unwieldy and bunch up when used with a pocket type diaper. I got them specially to use with the flip diaper covers which do not have a pocket. I love them with that particular diaper because it's an extra barrier of protection against leaks at the leg. I wish you luck and hope this was helpful. :)
Question: How many should we purchase to start off for a newborn baby
Answer: I think it really depends on how often you will wash diapers. Don't count on daily with a newborn, it's a bit overwhelming! We use these as soft protection for baby's skin overnight or for naps or car rides. We use them like a liner or doubler along with the cloth diaper (trifold), inside the diaper wrap/cover. IDK if this was the intended purpose, but 12 do well for about 2 days between our 2-and-a-half-year-old and 8-month-old. A newborn won't soak that much, so you may be able to use these exclusively as liners for at least a few weeks. If that is the case, my guess is you may want 3 dozen or so. When baby is older, these just do not contain poop as well as unbleached trifolds, IMO. Maybe that's due to how we're using them. That said, I absolutely love these and they were well worth the investment. If you're just starting cloth diapering, it'll take some time to try different products and methods to work out just what you like and what works for your family. It's an adventure. Stick with it; it's worth the trouble and the investment, in SO many ways. You'll get it down, don't worry ^_^
Question: Will these inserts work for Medium/Large gDiapers
Answer: Yes they will work for gDiapers. Thanks for asking

    User questions & answers

Question: I use for general cleaning. Do you recommend for this
    Answer: Great for cleaning!
Question: how well will these work as inserts
Answer: My daughter uses them in her Alva baby cloth pockets as inserts! AMAZING!!! She does not leak through these like she does her inserts!
Question: Are these the same thickness throughout? Or thicker in the middle
Answer: They are thicker in the middle.
Question: It looks like Gerber cloth diapers are recommended for burp cloths but which type? Birdseye vs heavyweight gauze & prefold vs flatfold
Answer: I just bought the 3ply prefold and they are so thin. I usually sew on them to make them pretty but I don't like the new weight, so I caved and purchased the heavyweight gauze prefold, and they are very nice for burp cloths. that is what I would recommend. they are sold in a 5 pack for about 12.50 (at walmart if you can find them) here are the heavy weigh gauze I ended up buying instead. http://www.amazon.com/Gerber-Count-Heavyweight-Gauze-Prefold/dp/B007VBYVXI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1402663499&sr=8-3&keywords=gerber+cloth+diaper just about the same price as walmart

    User questions & answers

Question: Can these be used with pre-folds
Answer: They can, but you would have a LOT of bulk. They're pretty thick inserts.
Question: I'm new to this whole baby thing, I bought the plain gerber cloth diapers, I don't believe they have pockets...will these work for extra absorbency
Answer: They may work, but you would be much happier with the newer type cloth diapers. Alva baby makes great ones with adjustable snaps. These inserts fit right in. Much better than the gerber pain cloths. There are other makers out there that are great. I just bought 6 diapers for 24$ on anazon. I'm still using my originals from a year ago.
Question: Can these fit into any cloth diaper
Answer: I have tried many different kinds and they have fit into all. They are also by far my favorite of all liners that I have tried. They are very absorbent and I haven't had any staining.
Question: Do you really have to wash them separat from your covers and if so, why
Answer: After removing as much soil as possible, I remove the insert from the cover and soak both insert and cover in a bucket of soapy water until the end of the day. I then wash everything and re-insert the liner after removing from the dryer. Hint: I throw a one of those color catcher sheets in with the wash and transfer with the load to the dryer. They not only pick up colored fibers, but they also collect leftover soil. I started this after a couple of loads and was amazed at how much whiter the white liners became. I thought they were stained for good.

    User questions & answers

Question: What is the best detergent to use being that they are bamboo rayon
Answer: At first I was using a cloth diaper recommended detergent but my baby got a bad rash and we realized they were being cleaned throughly. Now we use Tide with borax as a wash softener. We will be switching to arm and hammer when the tide runs out. You need a heavy duty detergent to make sure they are clean or your baby could end up with a bacteria burn.
Question: Do these work well with Bumgenius 4.0 diapers? Would I have to fold them over like I do with the inserts they came with? (My baby is 3.5 months
Answer: I love these! I don't have to fold them at all! Honestly if I could start over I would only buy these. They work with Bumgenius and Flip perfectly! (my baby is 4.5 months)
Question: What are the wash/dry instructions for these
Answer: I believe the instructions came in the package with them. I do not want to give you false information, however, after the initial washings before use, I wash them exactly as I do the diapers. For the diapers, you wash in hot water, but you're not supposed to use softeners or bleach, which I believe is the same for the inserts. The inserts do require 3-4 washes prior to use in hot water and then you dry them. I use my dryer for that, however, you can hang dry them if you are more comfortable with that. Have you tried searching for the washing instructions in your browsers search engine or looking at the company website?
Question: Has any one used these with Flip diaper covers? If so, did you like them
Answer: I don't know about Flips but I have used them with Rumparooz, econobum, Nikki's diapers, gDiapers, and Earthwise and they fit all of those. So they will probably fit yours too. I don't have a ton of exposure to other inserts, but the ones I do use, I like these best. And the color hides all stains, they don't really shrink either. Hope this helps.

Question: I was told not to put microfiber right against baby’s skin. This states it can be used both ways. Which is correct
Answer: Hello please do not put it right against baby's skin if your baby have sensitive skin.
Question: Can these be used as burp cloths
Answer: Hello these inserts are used for cloth diapers, their dimension are 33cm in length(12.99")*13.5cm in width(5.32"). They are not as wide as normal burp cloths so it may be difficult.
Question: I was told not to put microfiber right against baby’s skin. This states it can be used both ways. Which is correct
Answer: The outside of these are bamboo, so they are fine in baby’s skin. I’ve used them directly on my little one, with no problems. They are really my fav😍
Question: Why does it say to wash diaper covers and inserts separately? Whats wrong with washing them together? What does salt do
Answer: Not sure about the salt. I wash all of my covers and inserts together and have never had a problem. I do wash new inserts by themselves a few times to prep though. Check out fluff love university. They have a ton of tips for all kinds of diapers and washing machines!

    User questions & answers

Question: How do I wash and dry these before I use them on a new baby? No directions came
Answer: I only ran the wash cycle twice and then put them in the dryer. I use a sensitive Tide, there are several to choose from. I didn't use cloth diapers for my first two, but my second two had allergies to disposable diapers and certain soaps. If your little one has a soap allergy I recommend goat's milk soaps and detergents. I love these diaper inserts. They are gentle on baby's skin and very absorbent.
Question: How do you prep this before you start use? Will 3 or 4 washes be okay to reach enough absorbancy? Do you prep in hot or cold water
Answer: Definitely prep in hot water. I washed mine 6 times to be on the safe side. Make certain you wash them separate from all other diaper supplies during the prepping, you don't want the bamboo oils getting on anything else. They're fantastic though. I use one during the day in covers and 2 at night in pocket diapers for my 5 month old and we're getting along great.
Question: Can you use these alone with a cover - with these insert against the baby's skin
Answer: I have used these in Flips covers for the last 5 months on my son and I haven't had any skin issues. I always use a wipe to clean off his skin between diaper changes, I put cornstarch baby powder with aloe on him, and obviously make sure he gets changed fairly frequently to help prevent skin irritation. He has never had a rash and any leaks we've had we're from not changing often enough.
Question: Can someone please clarify how I use this product? I received as a gift. Do they go inside pocket diapers or inside a shell like Grovia Hybrid
Answer: Either or...I use the KerrBear diapers and they have the pockets where you can slide the insert inside. It's up to you...I put the clothe insert on top instead of inside more so because if you put the insert on the inside of the diaper then you'll have to change both the cloth diaper along with the insert. I put mine on the top because my babe does not always leak through to the cloth diaper, so I can keep the diaper on her longer...hopefully all this makes since.

    User questions & answers

Question: is this insert compatible with any diaper
    Answer: yes
Question: Can these be used by incontinent adults
    Answer: I’m sure it can.
Question: Do the brown charcoal ones bleed if you wash them with whites on warm
Answer: Not at all. I wash mine with whites all the time on a hot temperature setting.
Question: how long do I have to boil for them to be absorbant
Answer: I have never boiled an insert before, nor have I ever heard of boiling them. Regular washing at least 4 to 6 times before wear will help them reach maximize absorbency. You only need to wash in hot water and follow with a cold rinse. Boiling the insert is not neccessary, and I'm wondering if it may even possibly damage it in some way. Also, these are not full bamboo inserts, so do not expect a best increase in the amount of absorbency than what you get from the regular microfiber inserts. These insert are still microfiber, its 3 layers but it has 2 layers of rayon from bamboo surrounding the microfiber. While the bamboo does absorb more, it's not going to be that much of a difference. I have switched to these for my daytime diapers as my daughter is older and peeing more. These are perfectly acceptable daytime inserts for a toddler or a younger baby baby who happens to be a heavy wetter. It will absorb more than the regular microfiber inserts that come with the Alva diapers. But these inserts will not last through the night. Maybe if you used 2, but then I would still have serious doubts. For overnight,I use one of these inserts and a 100% bamboo terry insert. It is 6 layers of bamboo terry, no microfiber at all. I will get 11/12 hours of protection ( my daughter goes to bed around 7:30/8 and will sleep until around 6:30/7) and she will wake up dry. I see this question is fairly old and I'm sure you have found a routine that works for you by now, but I'm sure others just seeing this product for the first time may be wondering, so I'm answering moreso for their sake.

    How to treat heavy wetter?

You do generally have to change them more often than most people change disposables since some leave their children in disposables for 4+ hours. User questions & answers

Question: I've been using the cloth inserts from gdiapers in a diaper cover like a flat. Can these be used in the same way like a flat with a cover too
Answer: Yea they can be. My son had to use them and that is what I did with them. I guess u could use them anyway u wanted too.
Question: Has anyone had stink or compression leak problems with these
Answer: With ALL inserts you will have stink after soo many uses. I have to strip mine every few months. If the diaper/clothing is too tight, the urine will squeeze out.
Question: Do these need to be washed 6 times? That's a lot of washes to buy at the laundromat. How less absorbent are they without washing
Answer: As with all inserts they do get more absorbent over time. However depending on the age of your baby/if baby is a heavy wetter you can just wash twice to begin with and let your absorbancy increase as you go. We had no problem doing this when our baby was about 6 months.
Question: Can these be used for the Alvababy newborn cloth diapers
Answer: These are an insert or liner and should be useable with any type of diaper.

    User questions & answers

Question: What’s the size of the single layer sheet laying completely flat? Length and width
Answer: It's not a single layer sheet, there are multiple layers maybe 5, but still pretty thin. I would say however, probably 10"×14" or 12"×16" maybe. I'm not home so I can't measure but that's approximate.
Question: where are these diapers made
Answer: Don’t know where they’re made, but DO NOT waste your money in them. They look & feel more like cheese cloth or cheap gauze. You’d need several to make one diaper. Very disappointed! I used cloth diapers with my first son & they were much better quality. My Momma was still using some for dust rags until she passed away a in 2018 & my son is 41years old! SAVE YOUR MONEY!
Question: Have these been chlorine bleached
Answer: I am actually the grandmother but do some of the baby's laundry and as of yet I have not used chlorine bleach but have used a small amount of baking soda to the white laundry.

    • Slow and stable absorption resists compression leaks
    • Perfect accessory for overnight cloth diapering
    • Pairs nicely with thirsties pocket all in one cloth diapers
    • Very trim fitting; only 025" thick

    User questions & answers

Question: Has anyone used these in non-pocket diapers? I use a pre fold diaper with a thirsties snap cover and am wondering if the inserts would work for that
Answer: We're on our third baby and have used these since our first was in diapers. We only use them with pre-folds. They work great.
Question: How do you prep these inserts? Is there a special wash routine prior to using them for the first time
Answer: As with all natural fiber inserts, in order to get maximum absorbency, you will need to wash and dry a few times. You can use them after the first wash/dry cycle, but they become more absorbent after a few separate wash/dry cycles.
Question: I see the dimensions (Large: 14.5" x 5.5" and Small: 12" x 5"), but is that new in package, or after washing and drying? I understand hemp shrinks
Answer: I ordered the large, and after many uses and washes they have shrunk a little but still work well for us. it's more like 13×5 now. I also have noticed after washing and drying in a dryer, 1. They take much longer to dry but I have to pull them a bit and straighten them out, which is something Ive never had to do for microfiber inserts
Question: Could I use this inside a disposable diaper at night
Answer: You cold use it, the problem is if you do not change the diaper in all the night, you could irritate the skin of the baby, if you change it every three or four hours then it is fine.

    Question: Son impermeables o no
Answer: Si, son impermeables Los recomiendo
Question: if the cloth is not inserted will leaks occur

OsoCozy Gauze Diaper Doublers (Dozen) (Unbleached)

    OsoCozy

Based on 291 reviews Check latest price

    Product description

OsoCozy Gauze Cloth Diaper Doublers provide extra absorbency when needed during naps or night time rest. Typically, one insert is all that is needed but you can comfortably add up to three. Add the number of inserts you need when needed or use with every change to minimize staining of baby’s diapers and improve the longevity of the diapers. Each doubler is 4 x 14 inches and made of six layers of soft absorbent 100% cotton gauze. This is the same material as our best-selling Osocozy Unbleached Prefold Diapers. Prior to use please wash 2-3 times for full absorbency. This little extra will do the trick when needed to keep your baby dry at night or during long naps. Use with all types of cloth diapers for added absorbency.

    • Added absorbency where your baby needs it most
    • 100% thirsty cotton gauze, same material as our OsoCozy prefolds
    • Each doubler is 4 x 14 inches and 6 layers thick
    • Cloth diapers last longer when used with diaper doublers as staining occurs most on the doubler
    • 12 doublers ( 1 dozen) per package

    User questions & answers

Question: Is it safe to use bleach when washing
Answer: Yes, but stay away from any bleach with chlorine. Chlorinated bleaches will break down the cotton faster. An oxygenated bleach works well on stains
Question: Should I put these on top or under a microfiber insert? They're going in a pocket diaper
Answer: I put them on bottom. Microfiber will absorb faster and then it soaks into the doubler. Also, I use them on top to line the diapers if I need to use cream.
Question: Son de cañamo o de bambú? O ninguna de estas opciones
Answer: These are made of 100% cotton
Question: I've never used doublers or cloth diapers before i washed them 5 times and they haven't quilted like I've seen done on YouTube did i do something wron
Answer: These don't quilt quite like a prefold. Wash warm or hot tumble dry low. They won't really quilt until you dry them fully in the dryer either. I also used detergent in each wash. I add mine in regular laundry with warm or hot washes for 3 or 4 washes then use. They won't have full absorbency until several washes from the natural oils in them.
