11 best heavy duty trailer jacks
Heavy-duty trailer jacks are essential tools used in the automotive and trailer industry to support heavy loads, such as trailers, recreational vehicles (RVs), and other vehicles when they are not in motion. They provide stability and security, making it easier to work on or hitch trailers, perform maintenance, or load/unload cargo. Here are some key points about heavy-duty trailer jacks:
Types of Heavy-Duty Trailer Jacks:
- Swivel Jacks: These jacks feature a swiveling bracket that allows them to rotate, making it easier to position and store them.
- Bolt-On Jacks: Bolt-on jacks are designed to be permanently mounted to the trailer's tongue, providing a stable and secure solution.
- Drop-Leg Jacks: These jacks have a telescoping inner tube that extends to provide additional lifting height, offering versatility for different trailer heights.
Weight Capacity: Heavy-duty trailer jacks are designed to handle substantial weight loads, often ranging from 2,000 to 12,000 pounds or more. Choosing the right jack with an appropriate weight capacity is crucial for safety.
Materials: They are typically constructed from durable materials like steel, which ensures their strength and longevity. Some may have protective coatings or finishes to resist corrosion and rust.
Lifting Mechanisms: These jacks can use various lifting mechanisms, including crank handles, electric motors, or hydraulic systems. The choice depends on the application and user preference.
Stabilization: Heavy-duty trailer jacks provide stability when the trailer is stationary, preventing it from tipping over or moving unexpectedly. This is especially important when loading or unloading cargo.
Safety Considerations: It's essential to use heavy-duty trailer jacks on level ground and to ensure that the trailer is properly chocked to prevent rolling during maintenance or hitching.
Maintenance: Regular maintenance, such as lubricating moving parts and inspecting for wear and tear, is necessary to ensure the safe and efficient operation of these jacks.
Compatibility: Trailer jacks come in various sizes and mounting options. It's important to select one that fits the specific trailer type and tongue size to ensure a secure fit.
Storage and Portability: Some trailer jacks are designed for easy storage or removal when not in use. Swivel jacks, for example, can be rotated out of the way.
Regulations: Depending on your location and the type of trailer you're using, there may be regulations or safety standards governing the use of trailer jacks. Always adhere to local laws and safety guidelines.
Heavy-duty trailer jacks are indispensable tools for anyone who frequently uses trailers, whether for recreational or professional purposes. They provide the necessary stability and support to make tasks like hitching, maintenance, and cargo handling safer and more manageable.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it have a marking as to where it is to be welded on the trailer, if not could someone give me a a mark, in inches from the top, to weld it |
Answer: | I have had two of these. The first was sold with the last trailer. The second is currently mounted in the same place as the first. I have a pull trailer. I have mounted both of the levels on the flat surface of the tongue of the trailer in front of and next to the jack shaft. I use a regular level to adjust the level once the trailer is on a nearly level place. I had to pre drill the holes into the trailer tongue and then I tapped the holes. |
Question: | What is the weight lift |
Answer: | Dear Spiderzaur, You will use a 5/32 drill bit to drill the screw holes. If you have any more questions please call 1-800-835-0129 Monday-Friday, 8-5 central time. Thanks. |
Question: | Can these be easily disassembled? I purchased a trailer that the same existing outer shell already welded to the frame but the mechanisms are gone |
Answer: | MrUsa – It is made to help level your trailer and blend in with most hitches, so that it doesn’t stand out. People also enjoy the weatherproof cap. I hope this helps answer your question. If you have further questions or would like to talk to a Product Support Team member, please call 800-835-0129. We are available Monday thru Friday 8a-5p CST. Thanks. |
Question: | Is it 23/4x23/4 tubing |
Answer: | Only the smaller level that comes with it has a sticky backing on it. You'll have to provide your own double sided tape and\or screws to mount the big one. Some sealant around it may not be a bad idea too. |
Question: | Is this a set of two |
Answer: | There is only level in the pack. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the drop leg spring loaded |
Answer: | Just weld it where you want it. High enough that it won’t drag, low enough to jack your trailer of the hitch. I actually cut 4 short pieces of angle shy enough there was about 1/4” gap at the corners. That way I could weld the top of the angle to the jack (horizontal), and run a vertical bead between the angles since the corners of the jack are the strongest and won’t tear out. Geez, I hope that makes sense. Mine has the potential of having a lot of weight on it at times. If yours doesn’t, just weld around it. Good luck |
Question: | Is this a bolt on jack |
Answer: | It is rated to SUPPORT 8000 pounds. I believe this, but I believe it's very theoretical. It will LIFT a trailer tongue that weighs roughly 1600 pounds with as much effort as I think the mechanism wants. It could do more but the I suspect the durability would suffer greatly. |
Question: | Is this two of them |
Answer: | Yes. My jack was welded also. So I took the internal parts and replaced them only. |
Question: | Would this work on a horse trailer |
Answer: | 2-1/2" sq tube |

Question: | what is the advantage or disadvantage of a trailer jack with dual (2) wheels |
Answer: | It’s been an advantage for us. With a 24ft trailer, 19ft boat, 2900lbs. It’s been far easier handling the trailer to push into a tight garage opening. The single wheel originally on trailer would drag and was hard to pivot. Using a mallet to pivot the old single wheel was a pain, drag marks on drive. |
Question: | How easily will this turn? What I mean is, with the wheel in straight alignment with the trailer tongue, how difficult to move the tongue sideways |
Answer: | harder to turn with both wheels, a single wheel jack works better for turning. |

Each CURT marine boat trailer jack is equipped with a trailer jack wheel at the base, giving your trailer enhanced maneuverability without requiring you to fully lift up the trailer tongue. This makes parking easier, coupling easier and launching and positioning your boat easier.
Water-resistant
These trailer boat jacks are constructed from high-strength steel for dependable strength and are shielded in a durable zinc plating. This tough finish is optimal for water exposure, frequent at the boat landing, ensuring long-lasting corrosion resistance of the trailer jack support leg and internal components.
Safe towing
For increased safety while towing and ease of use, all CURT boat trailer jacks mount with a swivel bracket. This allows the boat jack to swivel up and out of the way for travel, providing plenty of ground clearance for your trailer tongue. The swivel design also makes setup quicker and easier with less raising of the trailer jack leg required.
