Why Do Fuel Pumps Fail?
OE fuel modules and hanger/senders, which house the electric fuel pump, typically operate for 7-10 years before failure, depending on a variety of circumstances. Premature failures can be caused by:
Start Your New Pump in a Clean Environment
Replacing the fuel pump strainer is required, but it is not enough if the tank is dirty. Make sure to inspect and clean the fuel tank as well.
Clogged filters are a leading cause of premature pump failure, so replace the fuel filter if it is not internal to the assembly. Internal filters are not serviced separately.
A Pressure Test is Not Enough to Condemn the Pump
High fuel pressure can often be attributed to a fuel pressure regulator issue or a restriction in the return line. The engine may run rich or fuel trims may be elevated.
Low fuel pressure can be caused by insufficient power or ground to the fuel pump or a malfunctioning fuel pressure regulator. Contamination in the system can cause restrictions to the fuel feed lines, fuel strainer, or fuel filter.
No pressure can be due to a faulty relay, fuse, wire harness, or oil pressure switch, tripped inertia switch, or dried test fluid.
What to Check Prior to Repair
The pump may not necessarily be the cause of fuel-related driveability problems or failures. So make sure to:
1. Confirm there is fuel in the fuel tank
2. Check fuel pressure
3. Check flow
4. Check fuel filter and pressure regulator
5. Perform a voltage drop test
6. Check electrical connections
7. Clean tank and inspect for debris
What Tools Will I Need?
Safety glasses and gloves are always recommended. Delphi also recommends a digital voltmeter, pressure gauge, and graduated cylinder. You should always have a fire extinguisher on hand.
Safety first
Never smoke or work near anything that could cause a spark or ignite fuel, such as pilot lights or incandescent light bulbs. Work in a well-ventilated area. Keep clean-up materials on hand, and clean up any spills immediately.
Always relieve fuel pressure prior to opening fuel systems. Store fuel in an approved container like a gas caddy or gas can.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this the correct pump for a 1996 s10 with the W code |
Answer: | Well input your vehicle into Amazon system and it surely would come up green saying it fits your vehicle. You may need minor details like trim model of your vehicle but it will come up much faster then you asking complete RANDOM amazon strangers if it will fit your vehicle eh. |
Question: | i have a 1991 GMC full size Jimmy 5.7; 4x4; will this fit my truck |
Answer: | Yes, Rockauto shows it fits 85 thru 96. be sure to order the strainer for it. It does not come with the strainer |
Question: | How much psi does this fuel pump have |
Answer: | about max 15psi only. This pump is ONLY for Carburetor or throttle body Injection (TBI - 2 injectors placed on top of a throttle body) vehicles ONLY !! If you have multi-port (GM spider 6cyl/8cyl injectors under plastic upper intake) injection vehicle this will NOT work and Vehicle WILL NOT start as it demands 55-70psi fuel pressure this pump will NOT deliver! |
Question: | I currently have a delphi fe0111 in my 1993 lt1 corvette. i see that is not the reccomended one. the fe 0115 is. what is the difference? fuel flutters |
Answer: | Hello, Delphi doesn't list the FE0111 but it does list FR0039 (VIN=J) or FE0114 (VIN=P). The FE0115 has a fuel pressure of 12psi while the other two have a PSI of 60 and 62. Your Vette probably requires a higher fuel pressure. I use the FE0115 in a 94 GMC 5.7 TBI. Hope this helps. |

Question: | Will this work on 2003 lt tahoe 5.3l |
Answer: | The FG0324 will only work for your CHEVROLET 2003 TAHOE 5.3L V8 if your Engine Vin (8th Letter From left to Right on the Vin Number) is the Letter T. If your Engine Vin is Z then the correct part for your vehicle is the Delphi FG0810.Best Regards,Romer |
Question: | Does this come with a fuel level sensor as well |
Answer: | It is a complete replacement unit (fuel level sending unit) included . It works just as my factory original in my 2002 tahoe ls with a 4.8 liter v8 2 wheel drive. Great product just about a year with it and I've had no issues. |
Question: | Does this come with the strainers? My 2000 Tahoe 5.3 oem pump has an external strainer that looks like a small sock. I don't see that in the photos |
Answer: | Yes it's internal not like the old style. Works great on my 5.3l 2001 tahoe. |
Question: | how does the warranty work |
Answer: | Uncertain, since I have not cause/reason for warranty issues. But my understanding is that warranty is handled by supplier with the assistance of Amazon if required. At least that has been my experience with other purchases via Amazon. Most automotive parts warranty do not cover labor. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I just bought this pump for my 2002 Silverado 4.3L V6. the supplied Delphi Gasket seems too big--won't install right. Should I use old gasket? Thx |
Answer: | I ended up using the old gasket because the new one did not fit correctly on my 2000 Chevy Silverado 15000 LT. 5.3 V8. I would say use it if you don't have any other alternative but inspect it first and make sure there is no wear and tear, If there is then I'd recommend getting someone to drive you to your auto store and picking up something more suitable. |
Question: | I noticed that it does not come with a fuel sock do I need this for a 2000 Chevy Silverado |
Answer: | Not sure on a 2000 but my 03 did not need one. I believe that should be the case for yours as well. |
Question: | what's the psi of this pump |
Answer: | To my knowledge this fuel pump has to put 60 psi for vechicle to start. And after running 55-65 psi |
Question: | whats the difference between fuel pump Delphi FG 0053 and Delphi FG 0407, both says are the correct for my 2000 gmc sierra sle 1500,vin T |
Answer: | not sure.the FG0053 pump has 2 plug ins. one for fuel pump and sender. the other for fuel tank pressure sensor. there might be a differance if your truck is a flex fuel model. |
