Answer:	I would say it can help absorb floor noise. I have hardwood floors with another floor underneath the bedroom where I put this rug pad. There is a definite difference in sound where the rug was placed. Hope this helps!

Answer:	I've ordered several rug pads from Rug Pad USA in the past 8 months of varying heights and they've all been what they've been advertised as (7/16, 1/2, etc.). The only time I had some trouble was when I didn't check to make sure the bottom was rubberized, and for that one the rug pad and the carpet slipped around.
