13 best sound deadeners
Sound deadeners, often referred to as automotive soundproofing or automotive sound insulation, are materials or products used in vehicles to reduce noise and vibrations. They are an essential part of creating a quieter and more comfortable interior in automobiles. Here are some key points about sound deadeners in the context of automotive applications:
Purpose: The primary purpose of automotive sound deadeners is to minimize and absorb the noise and vibrations that enter the vehicle's interior. This helps create a quieter and more enjoyable driving experience.
Types of Noise: Sound deadeners target various types of noise, including road noise (tire and road surface noise), engine noise, wind noise, and external environmental sounds.
Materials: Sound deadening materials can vary but commonly include products like mass-loaded vinyl, acoustic foam, butyl rubber, and asphalt-based materials. These materials are chosen for their ability to absorb or block sound waves.
Installation Locations: Automotive sound deadeners can be installed in various locations within a vehicle, including the doors, floor, roof, trunk, and wheel wells. The specific installation points depend on the type and purpose of the sound deadening material.
Benefits: The installation of sound deadeners in a vehicle can lead to several benefits, including improved audio quality in the cabin, reduced fatigue for the driver and passengers on long drives, and enhanced overall comfort.
Soundproofing Kits: Some companies offer soundproofing kits specifically designed for certain vehicle models or types. These kits often include pre-cut sheets of soundproofing material and instructions for DIY installation.
Installation Process: Installing automotive sound deadeners typically involves cleaning and preparing the surfaces, cutting and applying the material to the desired areas, and ensuring a tight, secure fit. It's essential to follow the manufacturer's instructions for proper installation.
Sound Barrier vs. Sound Absorption: Sound deadeners can serve as both sound barriers and sound absorbers.Sound barriers block sound waves from entering the vehicle, while sound absorbers convert sound energy into heat.
Aftermarket Upgrades: Many car enthusiasts and owners choose to add aftermarket sound deadeners to their vehicles to enhance the acoustic performance and reduce unwanted noise. This can be especially common in high-end or luxury cars.
Cost: The cost of sound deadening materials and installation can vary widely based on the type and quality of materials used, the size and type of the vehicle, and whether it's a DIY project or done by a professional.
In summary, automotive sound deadeners are materials and products used to reduce noise and vibrations in vehicles, making the driving experience quieter and more comfortable. They come in various forms and are often installed in key areas of the vehicle to minimize the intrusion of external noise sources into the cabin.

Question: | how many boxes wil i need for a 1957 ford fairlane 500. I want to do complete floor and trunk as well as headliner doors and inside finder in trunk ar |
Answer: | Number of sheets in the stack 9Sheet Size 29x20 inchTotal coverage area of 36 sq.feetPack 36 sqft has two times more sheets in size than a pack of 18 sqft |
Question: | I have a carrier comfort apu 2 cylinder kubota diesel generator mounted to the side of my big rig approximately 95 decimals how much reduction |
Answer: | If you look to eliminate the road, engine noise and metal vibrations then Noico 80 mil material is the way to go. You are to install Noico 80 mil to such key areas, as floorboards, doors, firewall, roof, trunk + trunk lid, rear deck. We recommend to carefully prepare the metal surface before installation of deadener to it. That would include thoroughly cleaning, drying and degreasing the metal surface before installing the sound deadening to it. You are also to firmly roll down the sound deadening mats to the metal surface with aid of roller. *Ambient temperature upon installation should be not less than 60 degrees F. If a temperature is lower than 60 degrees F then you are to preheat both, metal surface and even deadening pads up to 60 degrees F. That will largely enhance an adhesion and overall effect. |
Question: | Is this enough for 1980 camaro floor? if i isolating the whole car (t tops) how many of that do i need |
Answer: | Insulating the wheel wells, floorboards, firewall and doors would certainly decrease the high pitch noise but it won't totally cancel that. It appears that the source is tyres themselves. Sound deadening works more towards low frequency resonance elimination. Please note that all of our sound deadening materials are to be installed from the interior side only. |
Question: | CHEN: Does this package come with enough to do my whole car? 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe ?How much package |
Answer: | Unfortunately Noico 80 mil wont work in this case because the noise is caused by the fan movement and it is actually a flow of air that you get to hear and it can't be remedied with this material. |

Question: | Does this come with the tool to roll on |
Answer: | No smell or odor other than the initial opening of the package, I did however allow a day for it to dissipate before installing (has been installed for 30+ days in FL sun). Use caution when installing as mix will come out the edges & stick to roller. Use metal tape to seal edges. |

Answer: | Yes it should stick just fine as long as you make sure it's clean and free of debris. I'd guess 2 packs would be pretty close for 1 door (20 sq ft total) |

Stop fighting engine rumble, speaker rattle, road noise and buzzing vehicle parts! Apply Dynamat Xtreme to your vehicles resonant surfaces and enjoy improved clarity, loudness and bass response from your car stereo. High-performance Dynamat Xtreme is lighter than Dynamat Original, four times more effective, requires no heat to apply and is recommended for vehicle tops, sides and contoured areas. Dynamat Xtreme is coated with aluminum for high temperature areas such as firewalls and floors. Why does your car stereo sound louder when you pull off the freeway and come to a stop? Road noise steals much of the listenable portion of your music. At 70 mph, a typical automotive noise level of 85 dB leaves you with only 20 dB of listenable music. Applying Dynamat creates a "sonic barrier" restoring 3, 6, even 12 dB of lost dynamic range. Gaining just 3 dB doubles your effective amplifier power. And that means you hear more music. Kit contains four 12" x 36" (305mm x 914mm) pieces of Dynamat Xtreme and includes enough material for two standard size doors.

User questions & answers
Question: | Will it stick to wood surface and metal surface |
Answer: | It's 36 square feet. 36 - '1 foot by 1 foot' sections. Measure it. It depends on how well your going to cover everything. I covered every square inch of my vehicle including wheel wells, under carpet, rear hatch, 2 layers on the doors, and my hood and used 3 bulk kits. Didn't get to do my headliner and that would probably be 1/2 kit or a little more. You could also get away with just covering large open areas and use less. If I were you get 3 or 4 and you can do your fenders and hood too. |
Question: | Hi, Is this the original silver version or the new black |
Answer: | Normal Dynamat Xtreme will help reduce resonance of the metal. However, it will not really stop the low frequency pulses that the Kubota will generate. If you want to try blocking this type of noise, you are better off using the the Dynapad product and line all the floors and walls of your cab. The Dynapad does not have self-adhesive side, so you will have to use some kind of glue or adhesive to apply it to the vertical walls. However, this is likely the best you can do inside a vehicle. It's 3/8" thick and pretty heavy weight. If you don't want to do this, you can try the 1/2" Dynaliner, which does have an adhesive sticker backing and it's lighter, but will not block as much low frequency pulses. |
Question: | can you use this on your exhaust muffler |
Answer: | I used 2 boxes to do the whole floor , all 4 doors and the back of the cab in an Ford. F 350 truck |
Question: | I have a Gas Club Car Carryall (Golf Cart)....My question: Would this Thermo-Tec be of much use to dampen/deaden the engine sound from my golf cart? I am considering placing some under the bed of the rear of the golf cart, under the front seats, and even possibly the floor board of the golf cart. Would this work good |
Answer: | I also have a 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe and it was enough to cover all four doors, the tailgate and a few extra small places...you definitely would need 2-3 boxes to cover everything...But also keep in mind, you only need roughly 25% surface area coverage to be effective. No need to over do it! (2 boxes would probably be enough)You can check out sounddeadenershowdown dot com for a better explanation! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this flexible? I want to install it on the floor of a cargo van. The floor has ridges about every inch and a half. Would it go in the groves |
Answer: | This sound deadening material is made on a butyl rubber base and does not contain any asphalt or petroleum. It does not have an asphalt smell. All of our products are non-hazardous ones and not dangerous. |
Question: | can this mat be used for under the hood and is it safe |
Answer: | Yes, this material will stick to plastic. There should be no problem. The surface is to be pre-cleaned and degreased prior to installation. Each sheet of the material is to be thoroughly pressed to the surface with a roller. However, please note that our products are mainly designated to be installed from the interior side of a vehicle in order to perform its function and get substantial results. It is worth mentioning that UTV is a fairly difficult objective in terms of soundproofing. We doubt that application of any kind of sound deadening materials would bring about somewhat sensible results in comparison if it was installed to a regular car. The reason being is an open design of your UTV along with its engine arrangement. Another thing is that the material should not be installed to those areas of your UTV that are exposed to the elements (dirt or water). |
Question: | Any difference between the silver and black or are they the same product jua different color |
Answer: | In accordance with our offer, no roller is included into the box with MAT66 ProBlack 80 mil 36 sqft material. |
Question: | I'm a bit confused as to how the thickness is rated. 80 mil? 80 millimeters? I'm getting 1 mm. Am I missing something |
Answer: | Yes same experience., this particular brand was not a true 80 mill thickness. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will installing this in the trunk and under the rear seats help with exhaust drone and road noise |
Answer: | I haven't used it on wood. If it is clean I wouldn't hesitate to do that. The adhesive backing is very strong stuff. |
Question: | Is this stuff really 3" thick |
Answer: | Black |
Question: | We are doing a kitchen remodel and I want to use this in the dishwasher box area and around the dishwasher to quiet it down even more. I have concern with the odor from out gassing and how much heat it can handle |
Answer: | no, it may catch fire. Maybe you could add it on the inside above the muffler area. It would definitely help reduce the outside noise inside the vehicle. |
Question: | may I use this on my window to isolate noise outside |
Answer: | The material does add weight, buts its sound dampening appears quite good. A golf cart has less weight issues, it seems to me, than an automobile. It appears that you have a motorized golf cart with a 4 stroke engine (I am familair with the quiet electric carts) so I don't know if your results will be worthwhile. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can i put it in the inside of my engine bay? I have a jeep yj |
Answer: | We do not recommend using this material for treatment of engine compartment except for using it as an application for the hood. The best solution would be the treatment of firewall and floor from interior side. |
Question: | I am thinking of insulating my new dewalt contractor tablesaw would this product absorb the high pitch noise |
Answer: | That's not how this product works. It adds mass to large vibrating panels. You want mass loaded vinyl with a closed cell foam decoupling layer. |
Question: | Is this only for sound or could it be used as a heat barrier for under the hood |
Answer: | Noico 80 mil is first of all sound and vibro insulation, it is also a heat barrier but to a much lesser extent.Specifically for heat insulation we recommend using special materials such as Dynamat Hood Liner or Noico Liner. But the greatest effect can be obtained when applying Noico 80 mil as the first layer and Hood Liner as the second one. |
Question: | Why are the larger packs no longer available |
Answer: | So you have to buy more smaller rolls at a higher price |

Question: | What is the temp range of this material? Would it be advisable to put it on the hood or the underside of car (not near exhaust) under front seat area |

Question: | What is the temp range of this material? Would it be advisable to put it on the hood or the underside of car (not near exhaust) under front seat area |
Answer: | Noico Black 80 mil has a temperature limits of up to 200 degrees Fahrenheit and up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit only for a short term heating. You can install it under the hood if engine compartment temperature is within a mentioned specs. If not, we would then recommend looking for a hood solution (hood insulation) type of material and use Noico Black 80 mil material in combination with hood solution. The first layer that goes on a hood metal would be Noico Black 80 mil material. The second layer on top of Noico Black 80 would be hood solution type material. We are sorry, but we do not carry hood solution (hood insulation) materials. Please be note that Noico Black 80 mil is to be installed on a bare metal. Please note that all of our sound deadening materials are to be installed from the interior side. We recommend thoroughly cleaning, drying and degreasing a metal surface prior to installation of deadener to it. |
