9 best high heat spray paint for fire pit
High-heat spray paint for a fire pit is a specialized type of paint designed to withstand extreme temperatures and provide a protective coating for surfaces that are exposed to high levels of heat. Here's what you should know about high-heat spray paint for fire pits:
Heat Resistance: High-heat spray paint is formulated to resist temperatures typically found in fire pits, grills, and other high-temperature applications. It can withstand temperatures ranging from 500 to 1200 degrees Fahrenheit (260 to 649 degrees Celsius) or even higher in some cases.
Protective Coating: It is used to provide a protective and decorative coating to surfaces that are exposed to heat, such as the exterior of a fire pit, chiminea, or grill. It helps prevent rust and corrosion while maintaining a visually appealing finish.
Applications: High-heat spray paint is commonly used on various surfaces, including metal fire pits, grills, wood-burning stoves, exhaust pipes, and engine parts in automotive applications. It can also be used on surfaces that come into contact with open flames.
Paint Formulation: These paints typically contain heat-resistant pigments and binders that can endure high temperatures without deteriorating or losing color. The formula allows the paint to expand and contract with temperature changes.
Colors and Finishes: High-heat spray paints are available in various colors and finishes, including matte, satin, and gloss. This allows you to choose a finish that complements the style of your fire pit or other heat-exposed surface.
Surface Preparation: Proper surface preparation is essential before applying high-heat spray paint. This may include cleaning the surface, removing rust or existing paint, and ensuring it is dry and free of contaminants.
Application: It's important to follow the manufacturer's instructions for application, including the recommended distance for spraying and the number of coats required. Most high-heat paints are applied in thin, even coats.
Drying Time: Allow the paint to dry thoroughly between coats and after the final coat. Drying times may vary depending on the product, so refer to the instructions for guidance.
Curing: After painting, the coated surface may need to go through a curing process. This typically involves heating the painted surface gradually to bond the paint and achieve maximum heat resistance.
Maintenance: To extend the life of the paint and maintain its appearance, regular maintenance may be required. This can include cleaning and reapplying the paint as needed, especially in areas subject to high heat and wear.
In summary, high-heat spray paint for fire pits and other heat-exposed surfaces is a specialized product designed to provide protection and aesthetics while withstanding extreme temperatures. Proper surface preparation, application, and maintenance are crucial for achieving the best results and ensuring the longevity of the painted surface.

User questions & answers
Question: | what is the finish? Flat, glossy |
Answer: | Flat finish has a pale color, glossy has a shine to color. |
Question: | is this good to paint my heater metal cover, its pealing |
Answer: | Yes , after you remove the pealing paint, spray on. |
Question: | Can I spray on the interior of an old charcoal grill that I'm trying to fix up |
Answer: | I needed to do the same with my old grill. Inside the top the old paint was flakening off. After scraping I sprayed on with the Krylon. The problem was that additional flakening continued to occur and hence more flaks falling on the food. Maybe if you took the grill top off and sanded it completely then all would be okay in using the Krylon. |
Question: | COLOR |
Answer: | It's a flat black. I used it on my fireplace insert and it dried looking like cast iron. Very nice. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you use this on a wood burning fireplace firebox |
Answer: | Yes especially if it is an alloy box but if the box is made of wood you might want to seal and prime it with the high temperature primer first and make sure that there are no cracks before you go over it with the rust oleum high temp paint, for best results! |
Question: | Can I use this paint to spray the outside of a wood burning stove |
Answer: | I bought 6 cabs and did my gas grill inside and out. After it cured, I ran it for 30 minutes without food. I have a "holder" to grill fish so I am using that for all cooking so I and not cooking directly on the painted area. If after a month it holds up, I will do test cooking on it directly for the stray cats. |
Question: | Paint scratches off very easily 2 days later, even after curing at 200 and 400 degrees. Prepped with degreaser and 150 grit sandpaper. What could I have done wrong |
Answer: | You did not do anything wrong. This particular paint is not durable at all, but it withstands very very high temps. If you need high heat AND durability, then you need to look into some of the high heat Cerakote and Duracoat products, which are much more involved in applying than this is. I just answered another question on here, and in that answer I mentioned watching YouTube vids of ppl using this paint. In this vids, you'll see they are very delicate w the painted objects after cured when re-installing the object in a car engine compartment, for example. The ONLY thing this paint is good at is withstanding very high heat and being applied relatively easily and cheaply. Ps. I guess I should mention that this product is sometimes sold as an "enamel" but this particular paint is not truly what you'd call an enamel. Enamel implies high durability, and this does not have high durability. |
Question: | What temperatures are required to cure the paint multiple times at various temperatures in an oven? Will the final coating survive any contact with food |
Answer: | 24 hours AFTER painted - place in oven one hour @ 175 degrees. A second curing a few hours later is sometimes helpful.Any contact with food in either direction is bad. (part to food / food to part)Make sure wife is out of town.Cook 2 or 3 pizzas one after another to help disguise smell. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can it be used on stove grates |
Answer: | I used it on slate which is also not textured and it looks good. What’s nice is you can always add more white and wipe it off. I think it would look nice on flat brick as well. Double check their site and what others have to say though. Best of luck on your project! |
Question: | Will this work for tail pipes |
Answer: | Yes you absolutely can! This product is designed to be used on a porous stone surface and will provide fantastic coverage. |
Question: | Why is the price of paint at almost 30$ a can when the same exact can is less than 8$ at homedepot talk about ripping people off |
Answer: | Even though this is for "brick", I dont see why you couldn't. Make sure the surface is free of debris and oils. Thr stone is naturally pourus and should be able to 'soak' up the paint. I would however not recommend it be placed on floor surfaces as it will likely come back up over time and fade from traffic. But on a fireplace and or hearth it shouldn't be a problem. |
Question: | Will this work on wood? I have a wooden fire pit lid for my in ground fire pit, I want to spray this on my wooden lid |
Answer: | Barely any. I broomed and used a damp sponge to wipe dust away. Then I let it dry before I started to use the product. I LOVED this product. |

User questions & answers
Question: | For prepping a fire pit do you apply to the outside only or interior, log grate, etc |
Answer: | I applied to the outside and inside but not the mesh cover or the log grate. |
Question: | can this be used on kitchen appliances? (fridge, stove, dishwasher |
Answer: | I'm sure it can be used on stove because by it's an high heat be tolerance spray |
Question: | Would you use this on a new fire pit to help it last or only once a fire pit starts to deteriorate |
Answer: | You could use it either way. before deterioration might be best, in my opinion. I don't know if that paint layer would peel quicker, though.Good luck! |
Question: | Can this be used on the inside lid of my grill which has become very rusted (after sanding of course |
Answer: | I would NEVER put paint n the inside of a grill. I have been grilling and smoking eat for 35 years. For the outside it's OK but never paint the inside. Get a round wire brush for your drill and brush it clean. Coat the inside of your grill with Canola oil. Oil and season it by cranking up the heat with no food. Let it get to a very high temp for at least 45 minutes to an hour for a proper seasoning. Then you will be ready to cook. Cleaning of the hood is not really required of a smoker or grill. Best of luck. Smoke rolling here today. 6 racks of baby backs, 2 pork buttts and 20 chicken quarters. I love it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used on a previously rusted but now cleaned coffee maker hotplate |
Answer: | We're talking about the orange variety...don't want to use the red dex cool...there was trouble with corrosion...and they don't manufacture the red any longer |
Question: | Is it gloss or satin |
Answer: | I do not know. I would check the owner’s manual or check with a GM service department as to the correct coolant. |
Question: | Can this be used on gas stove grates in direct contact with flames |
Answer: | If it says 50/50 gallon, it's ready to pour, and it goes into the cooling system...if is says 100% you add 50% distilled water. |
Question: | Would this paint withstand self cleaning oven, inside (internal walls) temperatures |
Answer: | This mix is a 50/50 ratio. Some you have to add 50% water to the mix. Never use tap water in the system when that is the case, always distilled. The minerals in tap water will corrode and possibly do harm to internal components. |
