Answer: | The Red LIne MTL is great for manual transmissions. If you have a four pack of the MTL and a Mini with a five or six speed manual transmission (3 pedals), the MTL is the right oil. You will need less than 2 quarts. For my BMW 5-speed, I use just a bit over 1 quart. If you changed the transmission oil every 30,000 miles, plan on only one change. If it has been much longer, plan on changing it twice within a short period to get rid of any built up muck in the transmission. |

Answer: | What they are referring to is automatic transmission fluid. Automatic transmissions have a series of "bands" with clutch like materials bonded to the friction side. On a worn out automatic transmission, the friction materials on these bands are already smoothed out and slip. Since automatic transmission are driven by hydraulic pressure, the "gunk" suspended inside old fluid will help with "gripping" action with these band. This redline gear oil is used in Manual transmissions. The old saying would not apply here. |

Answer: | NO NO NO... GL-4 is specific for older transmissions that have bronze/brass parts. GL-5 will DESTROY these parts.. believe me I know from experience. My local speed shop mistakenly gave me GL-5 for my 91 YJ with the X-5 trans. Within ten miles I could smell the problem happening. They honored the mistake and gave me a gallon of correct GL-4 so at 150K my X5 was shifting much better. It's in the shop now at 185K for a trans rebuild (yeah it lasted THAT long) and Troy Transmissions was pleased to hear I wanted Redline. He insists on synthetics for Arizona heat and drivers who get in extreme conditions, look up the "back way to Crown King" for an idea of our kind of fun. And a heads up for the Y owners... beware the fast lube places. I went to two different shops and BOTH insisted GL-5 was the correct lube!!! NOT! Luckily the $450 they wanted just to change fluids scared me off and I did what Jeepers should do... work on your own rig yourself. |

Answer: | No experience with the NV4500. Been using it in an '08 Tacoma 5-speed since the first change (now 150K+) with no problems. Two things to keep in mind: 1- This is a GL-4; 2- it is not on NV's recommended list. Both the Redline website and "Bob is the oil guy.com" have a lot of info that might help you decide. |

You will find numerous articles and forums on the subject. The basic difference is in regard to additives and reactions to parts in a transmission or differential. GL4 and GL5 are not the same, and should not be mixed or interchanged. Why not research the gear lube needed for your application and use it? Relatively cheap to buy the right stuff. |

Answer: | Lubegard additives are safe with all fluids except for CVT Transmissions, and Ford type F. Their products are very good. LG Platinum is designed to meet mfg approval specs for ATF without approval codes on a PROPER base ATF fluid. I just did an Auto trans service on a 2000 Jetta TDi.(supposedly sealed and need no service for life) Yeah right. I changed the Trans filter, and pan gasket, and Side Cover gasket. I refilled with 3.5L Ravenol full synth ATF it's already fully compliant ATF with VW specs and still added LG Platinum just to keep things inside good. (seals, valves moving etc.) Tranny has 287K on it, expect to get at least 150K or more out of it now. |

It noticeably quieted the "clunk" into first gear while moving under 10 mph and from neutral to 1st at a stop it smoothly shifts into gear nearly silently. The shifting is smooth and positive. Can't compare it to other Harleys as this is my first, however I am satisfied with this product. It's pink and stinky, it's got to be good! |

Answer: | Not sure why it says that I know it is not model specific because it is a Transmission oil. Check you manual to see how much you need in ounces. Make sure your order enough of all the fluids your going to replace. I put this in my 2014 Tri-Glide Ultra and it made it easier to shift and did quiet it down. My friend who has a 2014 softtail told me about it and he told me that really quieted his tranny down. I have had that in my tranny for over a 1000 miles and no issues. I have the stock 103 Cubic Inch engine and the 6 speed transmission. Follow the instructions in your manual, if you work on your bike much get the shop manual it is worth it. On the transmission fluid after you drain it remember to put the drain plug back in. Use a measuring cup and in the Harley shop manual it recommended to not put the full amount in, but slowly add let it settle, check the level if needed add some more. That is because there will still be some residual oil still clinging to inside. Take your time. So you don't over fill.You may what to check with the store who is selling it as to why it would not fit.Hope this helps Keep the shiney side up....Brews72727 |
