Probably because on a 2-stroke, lubrication for inside the engine around the pistons, rings, etc. is either injected or mixed with the fuel in the cylinders rather than oil traveling through the engine in a separate path during lubrication. Using starter fluid places it in the cylinder also to help ignition with the spark plug. But starting fluid can "cut", clean oil from metal surfaces. This means it can clean oil off of the cylinder walls, rings, etc. and then they have no lubrication and can then damage themselves and other parts of the engine. If you use it, use it sparingly and if you have to use it a lot on some machine, don't, fix the actual starting problem instead to avoid damage to your engine in the long run. |
