How to: Drive Belt Replacement in a Cub Cadet 1000 Series Cub Cadet Series 1000 lawn tractors feature a range of cutting decks from 42 to 50 inches wide and engines ranging from 18 to 27 horsepower. All of these tractors use a mower deck drive belt on a pulley system that drives the cutting blades. When the deck drive belt becomes worn, damaged or broken, it can result in poor cutting performance, vibration and compete cutting failure. The Cub Cadet Series 1000 operator's manual recommends replacing a worn or broken deck drive belt with the original manufacturer's deck drive belt of the corresponding size. 1 Park the Cub Cadet Series 1000 lawn tractor on a flat surface. Set the power take off , or PTO/blade knob to the "Off" position. Place the throttle near the "Fast" position. Turn the ignition key to the "Off" position, and remove the key. Push the brake pedal and parking brake pedal down at the same time to engage the parking brake. 2 Lift the engine hood, and locate the spark plug near the front right portion of the engine. Disconnect the spark plug wire boot. Doing so will prevent the engine from accidentally starting. 3 Lower the deck to the lowest position with the deck lift lever. Locate the belt guards that cover the pulleys on the mower deck, and remove the self-tapping screws that hold them in place by using a Philips screwdriver. 4 Locate and remove the belt keeper rod on the engine pulley if the deck size is 42 inches. If the deck size is 42 or 46 inches, insert a 3/8-inch drive ratchet set to loosen into the square hole on the idler bracket. Turn the ratchet toward the front of the mower to loosen the belt tension on a 42-inch deck. Turn the ratchet toward the right side of the mower to loosen the belt tension on a 46-inch deck. If your Cub Cadet lawn tractor has a 50-inch deck, set the 3/8-inch drive ratchet to tighten, and insert it into the square hole on the idler bracket. Turn it toward the right side of the mower to loosen the belt tension. 5 Remove the deck drive belt from the left-handle spindle pulley. Remove the deck drive belt from the rest of the pulleys. 6 Route a new deck drive belt around the left-handle spindle pulley followed by the rest of the pulleys until the belt is firmly seated into place. 7 Put the belt guards that cover the pulleys back in place, securing them with the self-tapping screws by using the Philips screwdriver. Answer:	When I bought it 2 years ago it was green. They are great for emergency belts and something that eats belts. We changed from standard v-belt to these on a building exhaust with 6 belts that we had to replace every 6 months. They lasted 2 years. You do have to go back after a week or so and adjust it then it's good to go.
