9 best rust oleum bed coating

Rust-Oleum is a well-known brand that offers a range of automotive products, including bed coatings designed to protect and enhance the bed of pickup trucks. These coatings are commonly used to create a durable and protective surface for truck beds and are often referred to as "Rust-Oleum bed coating" or "Rust-Oleum truck bed liner." Here's what you should know about it:

  1. Purpose: Rust-Oleum bed coating is specifically designed to protect the bed of pickup trucks from damage caused by cargo, weather, and everyday wear and tear. It creates a tough, textured, and waterproof surface that helps prevent rust and corrosion.

  2. Application: Applying Rust-Oleum bed coating typically involves the following steps:

    a. Surface Preparation: Clean the truck bed thoroughly, removing any dirt, grease, or loose paint. Repair any existing damage, such as rust or dents.

b.Masking: Use masking tape and plastic sheeting to protect areas of the truck that should not be coated, such as the truck's body or tailgate.

    c. Mixing: Follow the manufacturer's instructions for mixing the Rust-Oleum bed coating product.

    d. Application: Apply the coating evenly to the truck bed using a roller or a spray gun, depending on the product's specific instructions.

    e. Drying Time: Allow the coating to dry for the recommended time, which can vary depending on environmental conditions and the specific product used.

    f. Additional Coats: Depending on the desired thickness and durability, multiple coats may be applied.

  3. Types of Bed Coatings: Rust-Oleum offers various bed coating products, including aerosol spray cans and roll-on formulas. Some products may have added features such as UV resistance or slip resistance for added protection and safety.

  4. Benefits:

    • Protection: Rust-Oleum bed coatings provide a strong protective barrier against impacts, scratches, and rust.
    • Waterproofing: They create a waterproof seal that prevents moisture from reaching the metal surface of the truck bed.
    • Anti-Slip: Some formulations may have an anti-slip texture, which helps secure cargo in place and improves safety.
  5. Maintenance: Maintaining a Rust-Oleum bed coating typically involves regular cleaning with mild soap and water. Periodic inspections for damage and touch-up coating may be necessary to ensure continued protection.

  6. Customization: Rust-Oleum bed coatings can be tinted to match the color of your truck or customized to create a unique look.

  7. Safety Precautions: When applying Rust-Oleum bed coatings, it's important to follow safety guidelines, such as wearing protective equipment and working in a well-ventilated area.

In summary, Rust-Oleum bed coating is a product designed to protect the bed of pickup trucks from damage and corrosion. Proper surface preparation and application are essential for achieving the desired level of protection and durability. User questions & answers

Question: can this be painted or coloured readily
Answer: Yes
Question: How much prep work has to be done before application
Answer: You just have to stir it up and use. No additives to mix in.
Question: Does this product require a hardener? Can it be reused after opening
Answer: Ye. but You still have to sand it a little so you can apply it correctly.
Question: How well will this hold up for the interior of a jeep? Thanks
Answer: Someone else answered “this paint is designed for metal”, but as an industrial painter, I would argue that this paint would bond amazingly well to wood. The porous nature of wood along with the thick and textured nature of this paint would create a very good mechanical bond when applied. Obviously some woods are more porous than others, so it may adhere to a soft wood like pine much better than a very dense wood like teak. Porosity aside, if you sand the wood very well with coarse sandpaper like 80 grit, you would still achieve an excellent bond. I would not use any sort of primer on the wood prior to application, however, don’t be surprised if the wood soaks up some the initial first coat. Cheers

User questions & answers

Question: Can you get it in white
Answer: I used on the lumber rack for my truck following all the steps and wouldn't recommend you to use it. It doesn't stick to metal very well .I don't think would last under water.
Question: If applying on plastic fenders (abs / urathane) does it require a primer / base coat
Answer: Yes, this will be enough material for a pick up truck bumper.
Question: Is this sprayable with a bed liner gun
Answer: Per many hours of YouTube videos that were watched before I did my truck cap you should need approx 8 bottles to put the proper amount of coats for the exterior. As for the interior I would say about the same or maybe a little less depending on what your coating. You put it on in thin coats and once mixed the bottles are only good for about 30 mins so you have to be fast and have your area prepped for paint before mixing. Great product. Love the look and texture.
Question: What's the coverage area per gallon
Answer: I used 3 full quarts on the inside of my CJ7. I am happy with the product and application plus I have a quart for touch up or adding to high wear areas

Question: what is the nap of the roller in this kit
Answer: It is solvent based. The main purpose is to ensure oils from one's hands, oils from other processes are removed to ensure good paint adhesion
Question: Will this work and protect the wood deck on a trailer
Answer: It is a grease and wax remover, not a paint stripper. I've used it numerous times on cars with CC to remove scuffs and it hasn't affected the paint at all. Wipe it on with one cloth and clean it up with a second clean one. I wouldn't let it sit on the finish unless you are hoping for a bad result.
Question: So i notice the tools given to apply the liner seem to suck. Does the actual line itself seem to work as intended
Answer: Sure can. Removes polishing oils for a good wax/sealant bond.
