I’m sure someone has done a video for your truck. Sorry, I don’t know the Curt part number for that universal harness but it is less than $10. I bet Amazon will List this harness as an add on if you go to the purchase page for the controller. Be sure to specify your truck info.

Is this plug n play? Doesn’t the computer need to be flashed

Answer:

It is plug and play as long as your truck came with a tow package from the factory. There should be a wiring harness taped next to your ODBII port or possibly up behind the cubby box that the trailer brake control module goes in.. Its pretty easy to flash the computer yourself too. You will need a laptop with free software called FORScan, as well as a USB or bluetooth FORScan compatible ODBII adapter. It took me about an hour to install and flash after watching Youtube videos on how to do it.

Answer:	I also have a 2011 XLT with factory tow package (7 pin and 5 pin outlets) and it worked on mine. I do have the center display but I don't see any reason the controller wouldn't work. Not sure how you'd get the indications about what the settings are without the display though. You will have to get the dealer to activate the controller. My dealer did mine for free during an oil change.

1. Remove the center LH Instrument Panel (IP) finish panel.
2. Remove the IP storage bin: 1) Disengage the two clips on the top of the storage bin that retain it into the IP.Disengage the two clips on the top of the storage bin that retain it into the IP; 2) Remove the storage bin from the IP and disconnect the trailer control harness electrical connector.
3. Connect the trailer control harness electrical and install the new TBC module.
4. Install the center LH IP finish panel.

Caution:

1. Always check trailer and vehicle functions (I.E., Stop, Turn Signal, Electric Brakes and Running Lights) before operating your vehicle and trailer.

Two types of brake controllers:

CURT electric brake controllers fall into one of two categories: inertia-based or time-based. These refer to the method of activation used by the brake controller. Both types are safe and effective for stopping a trailer. However, depending on your needs, one may be preferred over the other.

Inertia-based

Inertia-based or proportional trailer brake controllers use an electronic mechanism, called an accelerometer, to detect the momentum of the vehicle-trailer combination while braking. The controller accentuates the trailer brakes in proportion to the momentum, allowing for a smooth, highly efficient stop.

Time-based

Time-based activation is less complex than inertia-based. When stopping, a time-based brake controller accentuates the trailer brakes based on whatever gain setting is input by the driver. Although simple in operation, time-based trailer brake controllers are effective and provide a more budget-friendly option.

Heavy-duty towing

If you are towing a heavy trailer or cargo, an inertia-based brake controller will provide superior control to make smoother stops and to put less strain on your vehicle.

Light-duty towing

If you’re towing a simple boat trailer or popup camper, a time-based trailer brake controller may be sufficient. CURT time-based controllers are easily adjustable for varying loads.

Frequent towing

If you’re planning to tow often, an inertia-based brake controller is recommended. The sophisticated operation will help prolong the life of your vehicle and trailer.

Occasional towing

If you only plan to tow a few times a year, such as for family camping trips during the summer, a time-based brake controller is an effective and budget-conscious option.
