10 best curt weight bars

Curt weight bars, commonly known as weight distribution bars or weight distribution hitch bars, are an essential component of towing systems for trailers and recreational vehicles (RVs). They are related to towing products, winches, and exterior automotive accessories, primarily used to ensure safe and balanced towing of heavy loads. Here's what you need to know:

  1. Purpose: Curt weight bars are designed to distribute the weight of a trailer or RV more evenly across the tow vehicle's axles, including both the front and rear axles. This helps maintain proper steering and braking control, prevents trailer sway, and improves overall towing stability.

  2. Weight Distribution Hitch: Weight distribution bars are a key component of a weight distribution hitch system. These hitches are used when the tongue weight of a trailer or RV exceeds a certain threshold, potentially causing the front of the towing vehicle to lift and compromise control.

  3. Types: Curt offers various types of weight distribution bars designed to accommodate different towing capacities and tongue weight ratings. They come in various lengths and materials, such as steel or aluminum, to match the towing setup.

  4. Installation: To use Curt weight bars effectively, they need to be properly installed. This involves attaching the bars to the weight distribution hitch head and connecting them to the trailer's A-frame or hitch coupler. The tension in the bars can be adjusted to achieve the desired weight distribution.

  5. Sway Control: Some Curt weight distribution systems may include built-in sway control mechanisms, which further enhance towing stability by reducing trailer sway caused by factors like crosswinds or passing vehicles.

  6. Compatibility: When selecting Curt weight bars, it's important to ensure they are compatible with your specific trailer's tongue weight and towing capacity. Different models may have different weight ratings and features.

  7. Safety: Properly using weight distribution bars is essential for safe towing, especially when towing heavy loads or in adverse road conditions. Following the manufacturer's instructions and maintaining the equipment is crucial for safety.

  8. Exterior Accessories: Curt is a well-known brand in the automotive aftermarket industry, offering a wide range of towing and exterior accessories beyond weight bars. These accessories include trailer hitches, winches, ball mounts, and more, designed to enhance the towing and hauling capabilities of vehicles.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the install location for the chain mounts? How far from the ball centerline
Answer: The location really depends upon your trailer’s coupler and the shape of the A-frame. I would recommend hitching up the trailer and marking the A-frame above where the chain connects to the round bar. Keep in mind that when the chains are attached to the mounts and locked in place, you want the chain attachment point on the round bar to be aligned directly below the center of the mount, which may move slightly rearward as the bar flexes up to approach the mount (by perhaps 1/2”).
Question: Is the drop adjustable
Answer: Yes, receiver head has bolt hole options for height adjustments
Question: Can the spring bars be removed and the hitch be used without them
Answer: Yes.
Question: Missing parts!!!! What do I do
Answer: I would go online and email the seller if that’s how it was shipped. Let them give you a return ticket and they will normally ship another out to you.

Answer: Yes you can back up with it, i recomend if your backing up and going to be turning real sharp trying to tuck your trailer in to a tight camp space i recomemend take the bars off and and back into where you need to put it.
Question: Can you Reverse the shank to make it a rise, and can you change the ball to a
Answer: Yes, that shank can be reversed. I would imagine that the ball could be changed.... but the shank of a 2” ball is smaller than 2-5/16” ball, so I would think that gap would need to be filled with a collar of some sort? Or, maybe one of those “convertible” balls could be installed.
Question: Is this easy to install? How do you install this
Answer: Look on Curt’s site.... they have installation instructions you can download. Installation is easy if you have even a minimum of mechanical skill. If YOU don’t, do you have a “handy” friend?

CURT Weight Distribution Hitches

The CURT weight distribution hitch is a specialized towing system that provides improved vehicle and trailer control by leveling the trailer and more evenly distributing its weight across the vehicle's axles. Weight distribution hitches are commonly used on RVs but can also be applied to other large loads.

CURT weight distribution hitches come with a 2 x 2-inch shank and are compatible with class 3, 4 and 5 trailer hitches, including our Xtra Duty and Commercial Duty, as well as some RV trailer hitches. While a weight distribution hitch will increase the gross trailer weight capacity of most trailer hitches, the vehicle's weight carrying capacity must be taken into consideration before towing a heavier trailer.

Increased safety for heavy loads

CURT weight distribution hitches are designed to create a level ride across your tow vehicle and trailer. This is done by equalizing or distributing the tongue weight of the trailer more evenly onto the vehicle’s axles. CURT weight distribution hitches use steel spring bars to pry or lift up on the back end of the vehicle and move more of the trailer’s tongue weight to the front axle and rear trailer axle. While a tow vehicle’s back end might sit several inches lower with a heavy trailer, with a weight distribution hitch properly installed, this height difference is reduced and distributed across the entire vehicle-trailer combination.

Heavy-duty construction and a quality finish

CURT weight distribution hitches feature heavy-duty, cast heads and forged steel spring bars – both of which are highly adjustable to achieve the exact weight distribution necessary. To make sure our weight distribution hitches are worthy of carrying the CURT name, we coat each one in a durable powder coat finish, giving them great resilience to rust and scratches. Our weight distribution hitches are made from quality steel and comprised of expertly engineered components. From the formed hitch head, to the spring bars, to the hookup brackets and even our replacement parts, we invest our utmost quality for your satisfaction.

Multiple options to fit your towing setup

CURT weight distribution hitches come with 2 x 2-inch shanks to fit receiver-style trailer hitches of classes 3, 4 and 5. We also offer replacement weight distribution shanks in both 2 x 2-inch and 2-1/2-inch x 2-1/2-inch. CURT weight-distributing hitches are available in two styles – round bar and trunnion bar – referring to the types of spring bars used by each style. A round bar weight distribution hitch uses round spring bars attached to the underside of the weight distribution hitch head, and a trunnion bar weight distribution hitch uses square bars mounted at the face of the hitch head.

CURT MV Round Bar Weight Distribution Hitch

The CURT MV round bar weight distribution hitch is engineered to give you more confidence on the road and a more comfortable ride for the best towing experience possible.

Unlike many other weight distribution hitches, the MV weight distribution hitch is equipped with grease zerk fittings built into each spring bar attachment point. While the high-strength design levels the vehicle and trailer for smoother towing, the grease fittings provide continuous lubrication. This reduces the overall noise of the hitch and offers a more enjoyable ride for you and your loved ones.

Quieter towing

Each MV round bar load-leveling hitch has two grease fittings. They are easy to access and provide constant lubrication to the spring bars and head with minimal maintenance required. The continuous application of grease helps maintain a quieter towing connection and a more comfortable towing experience.

Reduced wear

The integrated lubrication system of the MV weight distributing hitch also helps reduce the amount of wear that the hitch head and spring bars undergo. This promotes a long-lasting design and a more dependable weight distribution solution for your truck and RV travel trailer or camper.

Dependable strength

MV round bar weight distribution hitches are fully tested and rated for reliable towing of even the largest of RV trailers and campers. This specialized camper hitch is available in multiple weight capacities to perfectly suit your towing setup, including up to 14,000 pounds gross trailer weight.

Extended longevity

The CURT MV weight distribution hitch is built and finished to go the distance. It features high-strength forged steel spring bars, a fabricated hitch head, and everything is finished in a highly durable black powder coat finish. This finish easily resists scuffs and scratches, while maintaining excellent protection against rain, dirt, UV damage and more.

Standalone weight distribution hitch

The CURT MV round bar load leveling hitch is available as a standalone weight distribution hitch, meaning it comes with only the hitch head, spring bars, shank and hookup brackets. The trailer ball and sway control unit must be purchased separately.

Weight distribution hitch with sway control

The MV WD hitch is also available as a complete kit: a weight distribution hitch with sway control and a standard 2-5/16-inch tow ball included. The sway control is easy to install and disassemble as needed, and the trailer ball comes pre-torqued for ready setup.

Multiple weight capacities

The CURT MV round bar weight distribution hitch with sway control or without sway control is available in multiple weight capacities to fit your specific truck, RV, travel trailer or camper. You can purchase this CURT weight distribution hitch in capacities as low as 5,000 pounds and as high as 14,000 pounds.

CURT 17536 Replacement TruTrack Weight Distribution Hitch Spring Bar, 10K

CURT

Based on 3 reviews Check latest price

Product description

While many weight distribution hitches are made to be compatible with a sway control attachment, the CURT TruTrack is an advanced WD system that integrates the sway control function into the design of the hitch. It combines precise weight distributing with integrated sway control to deliver the smoothest, safest ride possible. This, coupled with one of the easiest setups in the industry, truly makes the TruTrack unparalleled in its class. Like all WD hitches, the TruTrack uses a pair of spring bars to leverage the trailer tongue weight and spread it across all axles of the vehicle-trailer combination. However, instead of using spring bar chains, the TruTrack connects to the trailer frame using heavy-duty, adjustable support brackets that hold the spring bars in place laterally and vertically. While regular spring bars angle from side to side, the integrated sway control arms resist this movement and keep the trailer better aligned. This replacement TruTrack spring bar features forged steel construction and a durable powder coat finish for long-lasting use. It offers a gross trailer weight capacity of 8,000 - 10,000 lbs. and a tongue weight capacity of 800 - 1,000 lbs. It also features a unique spring and cam system that builds up pressure to actively stop sway and then relaxes to make smooth turns. The hardened components are less subject to wear and last longer than competitor models. One spring bar is included in this package.

  • Compatible with the CURT TruTrack weight distribution hitch #17500
  • Rated for 8,000 to 10,000 lbs. GTW and 800 to 1,000 lbs. TW (limited to lowest-rated towing component)
  • Constructed from forged steel for optimum strength
  • Protected by a highly durable carbide powder coat finish
  • Includes one TruTrack spring bar only

CURT TruTrack Weight Distribution Hitch with Sway Control

The CURT TruTrack weight distribution hitch with sway control is quite unique from other weight distribution hitches. The TruTrack weight distribution hitch not only redistributes the tongue weight of the trailer to put less stress on the tow vehicle, but it also integrates the function of a sway control unit to actively control trailer sway.

This combination of weight distribution and sway control into one product allows for some of the smoothest, safest towing possible and allows you to start enjoying your passion sooner, without the stress and worry of an inadequate towing system.

Integrated sway control

The TruTrack weight distribution hitch with sway control eliminates the need to purchase a separate sway control unit. It uses two cooperating methods to control unsafe trailer sway: a spring & cam system and adjustable brackets.

Spring & cam system

The spring & cam system of the TruTrack weight distribution hitch keeps constant pressure on the spring bars to resist lateral movement. This keeps the trailer better in line with the vehicle while still allowing for smooth turns.

Adjustable support brackets

Unlike traditional weight distribution hitches that use spring bar chains, the TruTrack weight distribution hitch with sway control has adjustable brackets. These brackets keep the spring bars fixed in place and can be adjusted to fit a variety of towing setups.

Easy, versatile setup

The TruTrack weight distributing hitch comes with a pre-torqued 2 5/16" trailer ball and has two neutral spring bar settings that allow compatibility with virtually any A-frame trailer, whether narrow or wide.

Dual sway control operation

The CURT TruTrack weight distribution hitch with sway control doesn’t just rely on friction. It combines both spring bar friction and a highly durable spring & cam system to control trailer sway.

Hardened cams

The cams of the TruTrack load-leveling hitch are made from hardened metal to be less subject to wear. They are also allow the hitch to remain quiet during operation.

No periodic adjustments

Unlike some weight distribution hitches, the TruTrack weight distribution hitch does not require periodic adjustments to maintain proper integrated sway control.
