I was concerned about this as well and cut the foot out of a sock and ran the straps through this to add somethings softer to rub against the vans paint and plastic. Others state that it is not hard or solid, and I agree, you do need to try and fill the cargo bag up as much as possible to help it keep its shape and the straps to work as designed. As far as weight, I had a large cooler and other items in it, and the only problem I had was lifting the full cargo bag up to be able to get the straps adjusted and onto the back of the van properly, minimum 2-3 person job. |
