The temperature is too high to melt the material it is ironing, not the problem of the pressing mat. When the temperature is too high, we can't directly touch the pressing mat with the iron. The temperature is too high, and it will burn out no matter what is used, when burnt it may turn black. We use 100% wool, and there is not a coating on our mats. Answer:	It still gets a bit hot underneath, so I would suggest putting a towel under it.

Answer:	I used this on another ironing pad for sewing and it did get very warm underneath. It did leave some quilting marks. For small seams while sewing, not a problem if padded, but for ironing an entire shirt, you could hurt your finished table. Suggest padding with folded sheet and using an area that is not the dining room table. I did like the silicone pad for the iron. It actually would be more useful as a rectangle vs an iron shape.

Answer:	Have you tried spraying your iron with a grease reliever and using a steel sponge to scrub? I have never let my iron touch the wool mat. These mats really heat up so you have to be careful with the surface they are on also. One lady cracked her granite counter top using her mat. I stick a wooden board under mine. Question:	The mat transfers heat onto the surface below and ruined my cutting mat. Now I use a silicone mat underneath but it’s still a problem. Any advice
Answer:	Well if it helps any, I put my wool mat on a very old table top ironing board that had fallen apart. It provides added protection to sewing table top. You may want to place a regular ironing board by your sewing table and place your wool mat on it, may be the safest idea. Unless you have a wooden cutting board the same size as your wool mat. This should provided the added protection from the heat. Hope this helps a little.
Question:	Is it ok to use Best Press or spray starch on fabric or does it transfer to the wool mat? Is that a problem
Answer:	I used spray starch once while pressing a block, it sort of stuck to the wool pressing mat. Now I'm not sure if it was due to the type of starch or heat of iron, but it scorched and stuck to mat. I now place a double folded piece of cotton fabric over the mat just to protect it from this happening again. This allows me to use starch and not worry about anything happening to the wool mat. I still use it and like how flat my pieced blocks iron out. I hope this helps you.

Answer:	I keep my mat on top of a small ironing table so it doesn't slide at all on the cotton cover. I tried it on my cutting mat and it doesn't slide there either, but if placed on a slick surface like a countertop or even a dryer it will slide. Not much you can do about that. I found this mat to be better for pressing because of the firmness, it's better than my cotton covered ironing table. Good for quilting for sure.

Question:	What do you put under the mat to stop the steam from damaging and getting the table underneath wet
Answer:	I think so. I had a 12 lb Burmese kitty and it would have worked. However if your girl is long/tall too and likes to stretch this will be just barely be long enough.

Answer:	They work like a regular marker (you don’t have to push down). They make a fine line like a ball pen. For the white one you have to wait seconds to get dry and then line appears. 😉
Question:	The wool used may be 100% NZ wool, but what other fibers or other content is also in these mats? Mats melting or gumming up irons indicates something
Answer:	I've used the steam setting on my iron and a heat gun from a distance on fabric and leather to remove the ink markings with zero bleed. These pens are called "ink" but it does not behave like ink from a writing pen in my opinion. I will say on a satin lining I was working with the blue ink did disappear but it definitely left a white highlighted shadow where the mark was so do a test before marking all your fabric.
Question:	How thick is it
Answer:	I have not had any problem with the erasing pen returning on the fabric gets cold.

Answer:	No, the idea of the mat is to prevent distortion of the fabric you are pressing, adding another fabric would prevent the mat from stabilizing the fabric.
Question:	What is the purpose of the silicone iron pad
Answer:	It is used to place your hot iron in between pressing. Not sure why it is shaped like an iron, I never lay my iron flat, but I do use it to place the iron upright. I think there are irons that do not iron until you press down? I could see this would be handy if you were going portable, as opposed to having your ironing board set up. For whatever reason, I love the wool pressing mat!
