Question: Is there anything that holds the paper in place securely so you get a nice straight cut
Answer: Yes, that top bar you see on the pic - you slide your paper under that and you butt your paper against an edge on either end of the board. There is also a guide wire so you can line up your paper with a measuring line to insure a straight cut. You place your hand or fingers upon the bar to put some weight on it and pull the cutter down across the paper - it doesnt move. It's a good tool for photos, card stock... stuff like that... Light cutting and cropping needs.

Answer: This is a late answer, but if I'm not mistaken, the replace cut bar would be for the rotary paper trimmers only. The rotary trimmer blades cuts on top of a flat surface, which is the cut bar, eventually wearing down that surface. This trimmer's blade doesn't cut on top of a surface, but rather between a groove/valley.Fiskars rotary trimmer's blade makes contact with the cut bar AND the paper. Whereas this trimmer's blade makes contact with only the paper.

Question: It advertises a 12 inch trimmer. Can you fit and cut a 12 inch paper within the grooves or is the complete trimmer only 12 inches. Thank You. Jane
Answer: I measured my cutting bar for you. It is 14" long, 1/8" high, 1/4" wide. I had to shave down the edges to make it fit into my trimmer. I am sorry I don't know any model numbers. Good luck finding one. Stampin up's is 14-5/8" long and 1/4" square.

Question: Can you cut longer pieces of paper (like a poster) or is there a barrier at the end of the board that keeps you from fitting larger sheets paper
Answer: I too, was needing a new cut-bar for my older trimmer unit and found out that the newer one (which I now have) has a square (four sided) cut-bar instead of the 'strip' type. So to answer your question, no, it will not work with the older unit. I did find a newer model Fiskars paper cutter for about $35.00 on line (slightly used, but in great condition). I absolutely love it for trimming photos.
