12 best mini irons for quilters
A mini iron for quilters is a compact and specialized ironing tool designed for quilting and other fabric-based crafts. Quilting involves intricate piecing and stitching, and a mini iron serves the purpose of providing precise and controlled heat for small fabric areas. Here are some key features and uses:
Compact Design: Mini irons for quilters are smaller in size compared to standard irons, making them easy to handle and maneuver. This compact design is particularly useful for working on smaller quilt blocks and intricate patterns.
Precision: The smaller size allows for more precision when ironing seams, pressing small patches, or working on detailed quilt blocks. Quilters often need to press seams open or set fabric pieces in a specific direction, and a mini iron provides the control needed for these tasks.
Portability: Mini irons are often designed to be portable, making them convenient for quilting classes, workshops, or sewing on the go. They can be easily packed in crafting bags without taking up much space.
Temperature Control: Many mini irons for quilters come with adjustable temperature settings, allowing users to set the heat according to the type of fabric being used. This is crucial for preventing damage to delicate or heat-sensitive materials.
Steam Functionality: Some mini irons come with a steam function, providing an added boost for removing wrinkles and ensuring a crisp finish. This feature can be especially helpful in quilting projects where fabric needs to be perfectly flat.
Safety Features: Safety is a priority, and many mini irons have features such as automatic shut-off after a certain period of inactivity. This prevents accidents and ensures the tool doesn't stay on unintentionally.
Versatility: While primarily designed for quilting, mini irons are versatile tools that can be used for other crafting and sewing projects. They are suitable for pressing seams on garments, appliqué work, and various other fabric-related tasks.
Non-Stick Plates: The plates of mini irons are often coated with a non-stick material to prevent fabric from sticking to the surface, making them easy to clean and maintain.
In summary, mini irons for quilters are specialized tools that cater to the unique needs of quilting and other fabric-based crafts. Their compact size, precision, and portability make them valuable additions to the toolkit of quilters and sewers who work on intricate projects.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it auto shut off |
Answer: | Quoting what Jeff F just said. These razors are NOT ProGlides even though they advertised it as such. The insert inside the package is just an advertisement to TRY the ProGlide. The order i just received today are the original Fusion blades. |
Question: | can this iron be used without water |
Answer: | These are authentic Gilette blades. Many years ago I spoke to Gilette customer service and they told me how to verify if blades were authentic or knock offs. On the back of the plastic that holds the blade just under the piece that pivots there are code numbers, about 8 digits. Counter fitters do not have the ability to place these tiny code numbers onto the plastic, and in truth who actually knows about this. The blades sent from Amazon have these code numbers. |
Question: | Can I download the instructions? I lost all that and can't remember what all the buttons mean |
Answer: | I find it really hard to believe that people can shave their entire face 31 times with a single blade. But, that's not what Gillette claim. They say it lasts a month, but really they mean it lasts 8 to 10 shaves. For me, I would need to trim my beard before I shaved if I waited that long between uses. I would say that if you can grow a full beard 1 blade a week is what you can expect to get from these blades. That said, the one week works better than any other disposable blade on the market. Gillette will never sell you 1 blade for $1 as long as they still cost a nickle to make. |
Question: | I'm looking for a compact iron for my sewing (pressing seams and whatnot). Does anyone use this for that purpose and does it work well? TIA |
Answer: | Your level of testosterone varies over time. A normal range for a man is typically 300–1000 nanograms per deciliter (ng/dL). Each use of a Gillette product reduces your testosterone level by an indeterminant quantity. Regular testosterone level testing will be important if (1) you want to remain a man, and (2) you use Gillette blades on a regular basis. |

Question: | Where is this made |
Answer: | Yes it includes the Dual-Purpose Lint Brush and Steam Diffuser, Fiber Brush, Steam Handle. Thank you! |
Question: | Has anyone burned the silicone solemate by leaving the temp on 3 all the time rather than turning down to 1 between every use |
Answer: | Do you have it secured tightly in the water receptacle? Where is the water coming from? If from the steam vents, this should not happen and maybe you got a lemon. I have two and this has never happened, |
Question: | I am so forgetful to unplug my iron. Does this turn off if I forget to unplug it for a day or two |
Answer: | Sorry, I am unable to answer that question. There is nothing on the unit itself, and I went through the owners guide, and it's not indicated in there either. I suggest you call Sunbeam customer service at 1-800-458-8407. Or maybe Amazon can put you in touch with the distributor who could answer that for you. |

To avoid burn injuries, place your hand on top of the iron, keeping your fingers away from the hot soleplate.

This little iron works great for this. I also used it for applying iron-on bias tape to an applique project. It worked great for that too. |
Question: | Has anyone used this with heat tranafer vinyl for small projects like a shoe or coffee mug |
Answer: | CLOVER MINI IRON is designed for pressing seams, ribbons, hems, corners, point and other activities such as quilting, applique’, paper crafts etc.… but many crafters use their creativity to extend its use to other applications. The use of Mini Iron in Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV) on Fabric is definitely common and proved to be successful, provided you use the right HTV Brand and type that could be applied at a temperature that the mini iron can handle. For other supports such as coffee mugs, there is no a clear answer to the question on if the HTV can be applied successfully or not. The results reached by the crafters that tried it vary from failure to full success. The only way to figure it out is to try it yourself.I hope this answer satisfy you. User questions & answers
Question: | can it be used as a hot knife with the included blades |
Answer: | It could be used as a hot knife on something thin like the thin sheets of plastic to make stencils. I don't think it has enough heat to go through anything thicker. |
Question: | What tips come with it, says 5, what are they |
Answer: | The Mini Iton II by clover comes with a stand, sm. iron tip, lrg. Iron tip, ball tip, slim line tip, hot knife tip, blade refill & screwdriver. |
Question: | What is the heat range |
Answer: | This is from the information sheet with my mini iron. Low setting is approx. 220 degree F. Mid setting is approx. 390 degree F. High setting is approx. 560 degree F. It takes about 10 minutes for the iron to reach the max temperature. I strongly advise you to purchase separately the Clover cooling stand made of heat-resistant material to control the iron. The stand that comes with the iron is not steady and accidents happen. I found out a bad burn heals very slowly. That caution given, I am pleased with the iron. I do hand applique quilts and it presses the crisp edges and sharp points very well on cotton quilting fabric. Lois B. |
Question: | what is the temperature range in F |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this iron have an on and off switch |
Answer: | No, it does not it goes from lowest to max with the turn of a dial. All though when reading the manual it does refer to the lowest position as the off position but in reality it does not click to an off point. So you do have to unplug the iron. Then again I would do that with any iron. |
Question: | What is the wattage on this iron |
Answer: | It is a dual wattage iron. It is a standard 120 V for use here in the States and can be switched to 220 V for usage overseas, |
Question: | Where does the chord connect to the iron |
Answer: | The cord is fixed to the iron. |
Question: | it wrinkles my sewing into a jumble.really disappointed. How to return it is the question and yes it leaks |
Answer: | Tie the cord into a loop, attach a note with your info on it and toss onto one of the "return" hooks of an Amazon drone flying overhead. Empty out the water before hand though. Or you could click on "Returns & Replacements" below to get other instructions. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Anyone know what the temps are at each setting? Looking to be able to set 284 - 320 °F (140 - 160 °C) for iron on clothing labels |
Answer: | I found the heat settings on the Dritz website:Setting 1: Approximately 176 degrees F - 248 degrees FSetting 2: Approximately 230 degrees F - 302 degrees FSetting 3: Approximately 284 degrees F - 356 degrees FSetting 4: Approximately 338 degrees F - 410 degrees F. Hope these help. |
Question: | How big is the iron face and what does it mean by adjustable |
Answer: | I just measured the face of the iron to be sure. It is 1 inch wide at the widest point. It is 2 1/2 inches long and the point is very small. There are two adjustments, one is the wire bar that holds it up (so the face does not burn whatever it is sitting on) the other is the heat adjustment. This iron heats fast and if you keep a spray bottle of water nearby to add some steam it works great. It shuts off automatically as well. I have never burned myself on this iron. |
Question: | Voltage 220 or 110V |
Answer: | Here in the US the standard is 110V with a couple of breakers set up with 220 for the dryer and such. You can tell a 220 because they're the ones with the big plug with tines that come out in a triangle. I believe the EU uses 220. Adapters have to be used when you jump the pond. |
Question: | For those who have used both, how does this compare to the Clover mini-iron w/ different tips |
Answer: | This is a late answer, but for anyone else who is wondering... I have both and use both for different things. This dritz one heats up much, much faster than the clover, but it's also a bit bulkier. The clover one can get into much smaller areas which is more helpful to me when making purses. For any projects that aren't too difficult to get to, the dritz one is my go to as it's so much quicker to heat up. Any real difficult areas to get to, I wait for the clover to heat up. I also use the clover for things like heat cutting with the hot razor attachment and for molding paper or fabric flowers with the ball attachment. For safety, this one seems to be a little safer as the clover has more hot areas that are exposed. But let's face it, they're irons and you have to use caution with both of them. Hope this helps! |

Question: | Does this iron have an on/off switch |
Answer: | Hi thanks for reaching out, please not our mini project irons are designed in USA manufactured in Greater China. Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions. |
Question: | I am looking for a small iron to use on Perler beads. Does this item get hot enough |
Answer: | Hi, please be advised, if you have to keep the mini iron on the silicon pad then you need to ensure to keep it on the resting side when you are using the iron, however it is not recommended to keep the iron on the third dot for long time as this will will heat up higher and may cause some burning impression on the solemate. User questions & answers
Question: | Can I get DC powered pressing iron |
Answer: | Yes I use tap water all the time |
Question: | How hot does the iron get? Can it get to 350 degrees Fahrenheit |
Answer: | Yes you can see where the water is because there is an inside measuring instrument. You will clearly see up to what point you should fill it up. However, it makes no sense to waste your money and buy this iron because over time it is going to start leaking water from the bottom. All this does is to wet up your clothes, iron board and constantly having you do a re-fill. Makes no sense to get this as a steam iron. It doesn't serves the purpose for long. |
Question: | how many watts does consume |
Answer: | If you leave the iron on:. horizontally without moving it, it will automatically stop heating after 30 seconds. The power indicator will blink to indicate the iron has stopped heating.. on its heel rest without moving it, the iron will automatically turn off after several minutes. Power indicator will blink. The power indicator will continue to blink until the iron is unplugged or reset. These are the instructions which come with the iron and I have found them to be accurate. |
Question: | how long is the cord |
Answer: | Beware of using tap water. I love this iron and am replacing it with the exact same brand and model. That said, I plan to use only distilled water in my new one. After using this iron with tap water for 3 or 4, I started getting rust marks on fabric when ironing and tiny black specks of something that didn't penitrate the fabric. After going on line and reading about rust in irons, it is most likely caused by a buildup of minerals inside the steam vents from using tap water. I tried cleaning with vinegar and water but stuff is still coming out of it so am replacing it. |
Question: | Can you use tap water in it |
Answer: | Do not recall mine smelling bad but all new appliances have an odor the first few times of use. The more I use this steamer the more I love it. |
Question: | Can you see or tell how much water is in reservoir |
Answer: | No, tiene que estar conectado |
Question: | does this iron have auto shut off |
Answer: | measured it-----12 feet long |
Question: | can tap water be used in this iron |
Answer: | You would need a transformer that plugs into 200v on the wall and the transformer output 100-115v |

User questions & answers
Question: | should the shaft move |
Answer: | Mine wiggles too. The shaft is only held on by a couple of flimsy spot welds so anything more than very light pressure on the tip will crack the welds and make the shaft loose. |
Question: | What temperatures are available |
Answer: | According to the manufacturer's web site FAQ page: LOW Approx. 220 Fahrenheit = 104.44 celsius, MIDDLE Approx. 390 = 198.89 c, HIGH Approx 560 = 293.33 c |
Question: | i need something like this to transfer patterns to wood. I don't know if it gets hot enough though. does anyone know |
Answer: | I can confirm that it does work for doing image transfers to wood. I use tshirt transfer paper that I print out on my inkjet. I set the mini iron II on the highest setting and the large tip(also available on Amazon). I burnish the transfer completely with the mini iron and allow it to cool completely before peeling away the backing on the transfer paper. If you don't wait until it has cooled it will stick and ruin the transfer. It does slightly burn the wood. I tried it on the medium setting at first but I don't think that was hot enough or maybe I peeled off the backing too soon. |
Question: | Has anyone had this long enough to know if it is a quality product that will work and last awhile |
Answer: | Yes I have used it and find it very handy with the doll cloths. Lugging out the huge iron for small projects was a pain now I just plug it in turn it on and it is small enough to stay close by. I think you will like this product. |
