User questions & answers

Question: is this a set of two? because i ordered two of them but got for. so i’m not sure if i got two extra by mistake. thank you
Answer: The price is for a pack of two, so you received the correct order if you ordered TWO sets, giving you a total of FOUR sharpeners.
Question: Is this a wireless/mechanical pencil sharpener? Or is it electric/wired
Answer: It is a manual sharpener. Just put your pencil in and turn the sharpener. Works quiet well and gives a very sharp point. Love it.
Question: Can anybody explain me how to empty it without breaking it
Answer: If you gently pull on the whole black top part, it comes right out for an easy empty. It took me a minute to figure it out too. :)
Question: I loved my first two, but... has anyone gotten one where the blades don't line up and destroy every pencil it sharpens
Answer: Hello there. This is a good quality sharpener. What I have found is that sharpeners of this kind, that have a "blade", will have a bad time of it, when the wood isn't a hard wood. It has not mattered whether I sharpened a hard lead, or soft lead. Blades get caught on the wood around the core. When this happens, the core gets twisted ever so slightly and CLICK, that little sound a core makes as it snaps. It's really quiet when it happens. The other thing that I have noticed is that is the lead is not perfectly centered, the sharpener will grab more wood on one side of the pencil, causing the core to snap. I have stopped using my beloved Prismacolor sharpener. I switched to the "school" style pencil sharpener. You know, the ones that are screwed to a wall in every school class room. I did notice that when a lead is off center, even a bit, you can hold the pencil with the thinner wood section so that it faces you, and then hold the pencil very securely, preventing it from getting pushed into the internal blades, that with a couple turns of the handle, you can even out the wood around the sharpened core. This technique can be used, to some degree, with the hand held blade style sharpeners. You would put the side of the pencil where the wood is thinner, nest to your body, and only twist the pencil about 1/2 a turn. Then pull it out to see whether you need to do this again. Sometimes this technique can alleviate some of the issues that cause cores to break when being sharpened. Peta Hewitt uses a sharpener that I ha never seen before 5 days ago. You push a button on the side of the sharpener, the front slides out, and you insert your pencil, and let it go. The sharpener has a mechanism which grabs and holds onto the pencil. Then you use your dominant hand to crank the handle, and the other one to hold the sharpener still. It is basically a school style sharpener, only re-engineered, but this one does not have to be attached to a wall or piece of furniture. You can clamp it to a table if you want to, but you are not supposed to touch the pencil while you are turning the handle. I thought that this one might be very interesting. They are not inexpensive, but I am wondering if they are any better than the next pencil sharpener. To sum up, everyone is going to have pencil sharpeners that work best for them. One might only use the Prismacolor sharpener, another might prefer the T'Gaal sharpener, and in the end, it is always a bit of a roll of the dice to sharpen colored pencils. All pencil sharpeners, even the school type, will get gummed up with the wax in colored pencils. It is always a good idea to keep around some cheap #2 school pencils to clean and sharpen the blade in your sharpener. I know I didn't exactly answer your question directly with a yes or no. I'm sorry about that, but as I said before, each person is going to have a sharpener that works for them. Watch your pencil inside your Prismacolor sharpener, and turn them slowly. Always do your best to keep the pencil from wiggling side to side, as this is one of the main reasons why this type of sharpener would break your cores. Go slowly, and watch your pencil. This could help solve your problem. Let me know if this has helped you, and if you need anything else, feel free to ask. Thanx, Mindy

User questions & answers

Question: Is it easy to open to pour out the pencil shavings
Answer: Yes very easy, just pop the top and pour shavings in the garbage. When sharpening a pencil I have found that it is best to turn the pencil instead of the sharpener, then the top will not come loose. It's a good sharpener for my purposes.
Question: Does this work well with Ohuhu colored pencils? (NOT the watercolors
Answer: I have used this with four different brands of colored pencils. Cheap to expensive and this sharpener has worked like a charm on them all.
Question: The product details say that the sharpener is 5.5 x 3.6 x 1.4 inches. Is it really that large
Answer: Mine measures 1 3/4" on top, just under 2" high, and 1 1/2 at the widest point. It must have been a misprint. I really like mine. It is substantial enough that it fits in your hand well and, at least I, find it easy to hold on to and twist. Hope that helps.......
Question: Does this work with the prismacolor soft colored pencils
Answer: update: If you go to prismacolor.com they have a tutorial to teach you HOW to sharpen the prismacolor pencils correctly. When you use their technique, it works well. This is a German made blade that is only one cm.That means you get 2/8 cm of sharp lead. which keeps the sharper from wasting the lead. I have not had any trouble getting a sharp point. save your broken tips, carefully smash it with hammer into powder. Use a cotton ball to add color to fill in back ground. These are fragile, if you drop your pencil it can break the lead in several places internally.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this sharpener work on scholar pencils
Answer: sorry. my purchase was for my granddaughter. these are the only pencils she uses.
Question: Would you say that this sharpener helps with breakage
Answer: I have tried many sharpeners and I can honestly say this one works very well. I don't think any sharpener is perfect but this one sharpens with little breakage and it has a nice size collection bin. I purchased this set and the only part I didn't care for were the erasers. They don't really work well. I do like the smudge pencils even though you will go through them quickly. I have to keep sharpening them so I don't mix too many colors.
Question: Purchased this, but can the shavings in the sharpener be removed? And if so, how is it done
Answer: Firmly grasp the top and the bottom portion of the sharpener with your fingers with your right hand, then with your left hand , pull apart the black partial portion cover (it says Prismacolor on it ) in a left to right motion. Once that is off look/locate the two groves on the left and right side of the white dot or left and right of the opposite direction which the lid opens. Once you find the groves, firmly grasp the sharpener with your left hand, then grasp the lid at the groves with your fingers and pull the lid off. Dump your shavings and replace the lid so it snaps back in place at the groves. Then snap the outer cover back in place.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this work with regular pencils
Answer: I've never tried it. I only use Prismacolor pencils. I think the reason the blender might not work with some other pencils is that Prismacolors have a somewhat soft "lead". Other pencils with harder "leads" probably wouldn't work . But my answer has to be that I don't know, having never tried it.
Question: Can this be used for prisma scholar
Answer: Yes, this can be used with the prismacolor scholar pencils.
Question: can you get blades for this sharpener
Answer: Sorry, I don't know if you can or not.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the plastic eraser for? I am a beginner but wanted the blender pencil. but thought it would be good to have the other items I progress
Answer: Absolutely. It is one very important element, when you need to correct o remove almost anything, even ink. But the plastic o vinyl eraser have to be used carefully, if not can easily tear through paper.
Question: Is the pencil sharpender good for colored pencils to
Answer: Yes, it is made for colored pencils. I rarely use it for my pencils, as I have a special electric sharpener I use, though it is not recommended by the manufacturer.
Question: What works better the Prismacolor sharpener or this one that comes with the package
Answer: I liked the one in the package. It works fine. Remember that you turn the pencil sharpener, not the pencil. You can replace the blades too. I bought another sharpener, actually a few but the handheld are supposed to be the best for these type pencils. I bought a Staedler because I wanted one with two sizes for my pastel pencils (not sure on the spelling) and then an Alvin and I like it the best. I bought lots of blades because they don't last too long on some of the pencils, I use several types. I have a a little jewelry box about the size of a bangle bracelet and I sharpen into it. It is probably larger than the Prismacolor with the container attached. I just empty it at night when I'm done drawing, etc.
Question: Is this a good sharpener for pencil colors
Answer: The sharpener is just a standard pencil sharpener. It works fine for the colors but I bought the Prismacolor sharpener because it does two different types of points depending on what you're doing. I bought this set for the blending tools and the pencil extension. With the price of good pencils the extension is awesome because you can use your nubs right up to the end.

User questions & answers

Question: How many trays of pencils are there in a set of 132 pencils
Answer: Good question...I believe it's 2 separate trays and 1 inset tray in the bottom of the tin case. However, might I share with you what I do, as an artist. I never use the cases my supplies come in. For this set I purchased this wonderful black canvas zip case by Global Art that holds 120 colored pencils (amazon.com has them and many Hobby Lobby Stores (not HL online). This way I can arrange my pencils in the color order I desire. The case closes all the way around (zips, thus, no spilled tin case, ruining the pencil tips). This is the largest case (120 capacity) I could find to my liking but holds only 120 and this Prismacolor set is 132. So for the 12 remaining pencils, I easily remedied this by cutting a nice sturdy piece of cardboard out that fits in the case. Then I laid out all the gray tones, black & white colors on this piece of cardboard and hold them flatly against the cardboard with 2 covered hair pony tail bands (or you could use rubber bands). This piece of cardboard with the remaining 12 less-used colors fits perfect in the case and the case closes beautifully! I cannot tell you how wonderful this set is....but it's large and one needs to arrange like-colors together and transfer to a case that is more user-friendly (tins are cool, but not at all practical. They also take up a lot of table surface space, so this case makes all my colors easily accessible. I also highly recommend that after you organize your pencils in the order you want, that you make up a sample color chart and keep it with your pencils for easy identification. Hope this helps!
Question: are these pencils all different colors? or are their repeats in this set
Answer: According to Prismacolor, here are all the colors in the 150 set: http://www.prismacolor.com/SiteCollectionDocuments/prismacolor-soft-core-colored-pencils-lightfast-color-chart.pdfThere are no repeats.
Question: What's the difference between these pencils and the regular Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils. No one has been able to answer this question for me
Answer: They are the regular Prismacolor pencils - the best pencils in the industry. Other than Holbein, none other compare. I have to laugh at the so-called artists that "love" Polychromos - most of them wouldn't know a colored pencil from a pencil sharpener.
Question: What colors are missing in the 132 verses 150 prismacolor sets
Answer: I recently bought the Prismacolour 150 pack box and unfortunately I am missing the colour : PC120. a shade of green. I received 14 9Pencils in the box. Is there any way to just get the missing colour that anyone nows of

User questions & answers

Question: Can these be used for watercolor too? And if so, what kind of water pens work best? I'd rather use the water fill brush pens
Answer: No. These are not watercolor pencils. For watercolor I use Derwent pencils (Inktense-regular colors- and metallic). I love them. I use a set of regular brushes no fill brush pen, so I can't help you regarding this. Also maybe something you would like to check our is the watercolors from Faber Castell...I have heard wonders about them. I got the Derwent on sale at Amazon and simply love them. 😊
Question: Are they creamy
Answer: I am "thinking" by creamy, you might mean soft and easy to color with? To me, they are both. They are on the upper-end of being a bit pricey but, to me, they are worth it. I use them with a lot of floral and shading coloring. They blend beautifully. The leads that are harder to color with do not blend well. It's worth the price of the basic set to try them out. I now have about 8 tins. I use them with the markers mostly. Hopefully, this answers your question. If you get them be sure and be careful not to drop them, as in most pencils, the leads do break easily. Happy Coloring!!
Question: can these be used with Gamsol
Answer: Yes they can.
Question: I read that you can use these for bible dry "highlighting" without the wax or bleed through with most bible safe highlighters. Anyone try
Answer: Sorry--I can't vouch for this at all because I use these pencils strictly for art projects. My inclination, offhand, is to say they wouldn't work well as highlighters unless the Bible in question has more durable paper than mine does.
