Answer:	Size 8 or 9.. you need a minimum of 1” outside the design. I prefer the bamboo, but it’s just my personal preference. I like to frame my embroideries in the hoop. For that I typically paint the hoop one of the colors in the embroidery.

How to use:

1.Loosen the outer screw, lay flat the inside hoop, put the cloth on the hoop, then put the outer hoop on the inside hoop.  

2. Flat the cloth and tighten the screw.  

3. Continue to flat the cloth to ensure there are no pleats, and pay attention to fabric to make the warp and the welt both vertical and horizontal, and finally tighten the screws.  

4. Inspect the hoop whether it is tight enough. The way to check the tightness is to use a needle with thread going through the fabric surface. It is workable if there is a loudly sound when pulling the thread.

Answer:	Hoops were made in China.
Question:	Has anyone used these with felt? Will they expand enough to hold this thicker fabric
Answer:	I use the two largest hoops for free motion quilting. The quilt sandwich consists of two layers of cotton fabric and batting in between. I am not even allowing for the added thickness of seams. These hoops should accommodate a single layer of felt. If you plan to use something thicker, using a longer screw could be used in lieu of the screw provided.
Question:	How are this for someone who has arthritis in there hands
Answer:	This was a gift for my sister in a nursing home. She has moderate arthritis in her hands. She was able to use these comfortably. She is 74 and typed 80 wpm for 40 years.
Question:	How do the plastic hoops compare to bamboo hoops? I'm a beginner
Answer:	I purchased the plastic hoops because I grew frustrated with my bamboo hoop wrapped in twill tape for free motion embroidery and quilting. The top ring kept popping out. The plastic hoops are notched so that the top hoop fits into the groove on the bottom hoop. I no longer have the old problem of the hoops coming apart when working. My only concern with the plastic hoops is that you have to check for burrs on the plastic and file it down before using.
