13 best shoe glues
Shoe glue is a type of adhesive specifically designed for repairing and bonding various parts of shoes, including soles, uppers, and other components. It is a crucial tool for DIY shoe repair and is commonly used by shoemakers and individuals looking to extend the life of their footwear. Here's what you should know about shoe glue:
Types of Shoe Glues:
- Contact Cement: Contact cement is a popular type of shoe glue. It is known for its strong bond and flexibility, making it suitable for both leather and rubber shoe materials.
- Epoxy Resin: Epoxy resin-based adhesives provide a strong and durable bond, making them ideal for heavy-duty shoe repairs.
- Super Glue (Cyanoacrylate): Super glue is a quick-bonding adhesive that can work well for small shoe repairs but may not be as flexible as other types.
- Shoe Goo: Shoe Goo is a specialized shoe repair adhesive that is flexible and durable, designed specifically for repairing and protecting shoes.
Common Uses:
- Repairing detached soles or heel caps.
- Fixing separated shoe seams.
- Reattaching insoles and footbeds.
- Mending torn or damaged shoe uppers.
- Securing loose or detached shoe embellishments, such as beads or rhinestones.
Preparation: Before applying shoe glue, it's essential to clean the surfaces to be bonded thoroughly.Remove dirt, dust, and old adhesive residue. Roughening the surface slightly with sandpaper can improve adhesion.
Application: Shoe glue is typically applied sparingly to the surfaces that need to be bonded. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the specific type of glue you are using.
Drying Time: The drying time for shoe glue can vary depending on the type and brand. It's important to allow sufficient time for the glue to set and cure properly. Some glues may require clamping or applying pressure during the drying process.
Flexibility: Shoe glue should maintain flexibility once cured to accommodate the natural movements of your feet. This is especially important for shoe repairs as rigid adhesives may lead to discomfort and further damage.
Longevity: A properly executed shoe repair using the right glue can extend the life of your shoes significantly. However, the longevity of the repair also depends on factors like the quality of the glue, the nature of the repair, and the materials involved.
Safety: When using shoe glue, be sure to work in a well-ventilated area and follow safety precautions outlined in the product's instructions, such as wearing gloves and avoiding contact with skin or eyes.
In summary, shoe glue is a specialized adhesive used for repairing various parts of shoes. There are different types of shoe glue available, each with its own strengths and applications. Proper surface preparation, application technique, and allowing adequate drying time are crucial for successful shoe repairs using these adhesives.

Product description
"Boot-Fix's Shoe Glue is a flexible super glue that works almost instantly on footwear! As my dad used to say "If the shoe fits, Glue It!" Even the famous Gorilla Glue and Shoe Goo can't compare with Boot-Fix Shoe Glue when it comes to re-attaching the soles and heels of your favorite boots, shoes, and sandals. The flexible super glue formula was specially created just for repairing footwear. Whether it's in the blistering summer heat or icy cold of winter, boot-fix glue is designed to hold. Most super glues dry rigidly and can take several minutes or more to fully cure. Boot-Fix Glue dries clear and flexible! Whether you need to glue your boots for a hard day's work, a tough day of training, or just a walking around the office, Boot-Fix Glue can repair your work boots, athletic sneakers, and your rubber soled dress shoes." - John Hnilica, Founder NJOY Distributors, LLC.
- Not just regular "super glue"! It's what the professionals use. We know, because we've been doing shoe repair for three generations!
- Professional strength and flexible shoe glue that bonds almost instantly with no clamping! Doesn't expand or dry thick like the other leading brands.
- Re-attach your sole with confidence because unlike other shoe glues, Boot-Fix's shoe glue creates a flexible bond unaffected by heat, cold or moisture.
- Formulated to use on all footwear materials, especially rubber and vinyl footwear where other glues fail, including boots, athletic shoes, climbing shoes, dress shoes and more.
- Specifically formulated to create a lasting bond that stays strong so you can have confidence in repairing your shoes yourself.
User questions & answers
Question: | Does anybody have the data sheet on this stuff i'm looking for something that will withstand high temp 160 to 170 F or 77c.I want to patch a car seat |
Answer: | I would just call an auto upholstery company local to you and see what they recommend. |
Question: | Why 3x$ compared to other super glue formulas? Enough to coat the soles of two boots and or other separated layers? Why such a little bottle |
Answer: | Thank you for your question. Boot-Fix retails for $9.95 but is $14.45 Prime to cover the cost of shipping. Boot-Fix is much stronger than regular super glues and contains an additive to keep the cyanoacrylate flexible when it dries. The formula and manufacturing process was intended for the shoe repair industry so you are getting the best of the best professional grade shoe repair glue. Boot-Fix contains 20 grams of adhesive and will last about 2 years. There is enough glue in the bottle to repair up to 10 boots or 15 shoes. Compare that to the $24 we charge to make the same repair in our shops. Thanks again. Hope that helps! |
Question: | Will it reattach running show soles that became completely detached from the upper soon after first use? New old stock shoes. Apply to entire sole |
Answer: | I'm certain it will. My boots I bought this glue for were DrMartens. The fabric mesh style. And sadly it this glue wasn't useful with fabric. I used the glue for my other old England original DrMartens and it worked perfectly well. Also used this glue (out of curiosity) for other projects and it worked so well. So besides fabric....This boot glue fix worked on every other project. |
Question: | Is this just like "krazy/super glue" only packaged for shoes at a higher price, meaning might as well just use the cheaper version? or is this better |
Answer: | Shoe-Fix and Boot-Fix are LIKE Krazy Glue or super glues, because it is a cyanoacrylate formula. BUT, Shoe-Fix and Boot-Fix have been specifically formulated for the shoe repair industry to bond to all types of materials used in today's footwear and remain flexible after curing to hold as long as possible. Regular super glues dry hard and would crack apart and break during shortly after use. We are professional shoe repairmen! We've been using this type of shoe glue in our two Florida shops for over twenty years and thought it was time for the retail market to be able to use the same glue we do - so here it is!!! |
Product features
THE BOOT-FIX DIFFERENCE:
Boot-Fix is a super glue (cyanoacrylate) that is specifically formulated for the shoe repair industry. We know because we’ve been using this type of glue in our shoe repair shops for almost 30 years now and we think we’ve found the best formula yet! Boot-Fix Glue is the strongest footwear adhesive that works on all different types of shoe materials. What makes Boot-Fix Glue different from your average super glue? Boot-Fix remains flexible after it dries so it doesn’t just break apart again when the footwear is worn. Also, it’s viscosity has been specifically formulated to bond to the types of materials used to manufacture footwear these days. Unlike other shoe glues, Boot-Fix doesn’t require clamping for most repairs. It’s ready to go in minutes, not hour or even days. Boot-Fix Glue is completely waterproof and it’s designed to hold even in the blistering summer heat, or icy cold of winter. Whether you need to glue your boots for a hard day's work, a tough day of training, or just a walking around the office, Boot-Fix Glue can repair your work boots, athletic sneakers, rubber soled dress shoes, and much more!. As my dad used to say “If the shoe fits, Glue It!”
HOW TO USE:
HELPFUL TIPS:
* Have a tri-folded paper towel handy to wipe off any excess glue.
* For completely detached soles, preset sole to desired position and hold. Repeat above steps to the toe or heel first, then repeat for opposite end until entire sole is attached.
* If there’s a white film on the surface of the material, or if the footwear has been washed or exposed to soapy substances, you will need to use more Boot-Fix and apply more pressure for a longer period of time to allow for the adhesive to soak through the film and bond to the intended materials.
* For porous materials, use Boot-Fix as described in the directions. If the bond does not hold after 1 minute, simply repeat the steps again with more glue now that the porous material has been filled with some glue. This repair might also require more pressure for a longer period of time for the adhesive to work as intended.
* Latex or other types of gloves are not required to use Boot-Fix and may get glued to your footwear accidently. We recommend doing the repairs carefully with your bare hands. If you do accidently get Boot-Fix on your skin, apply cooking oil to bonded areas and gently rub to peel bond apart.
* Store Boot-Fix in a cool dry place or refrigerator and ensure the cap clicks shut when closing for longest life.

User questions & answers
Question: | how does this compare to Shoe Goo |
Answer: | I like it very much, it is not as thick as Shoe Goo. i use it on soles that have come loose. Put a little on the outer edge of the sole then I clamp it to the upper for about 15-30 minuets. Works like a charm. |

User questions & answers
Question: | This says it "includes 7 mini bottles" but does not show them in the photo. It only shows one 3.7oz bottle. Are there 7 bottles, or 1? Size of each |
Answer: | You bet. If you’ve lost you like Denture, you do not want a repair kit! Besides, this kit may work but it’s very difficult to use. I recently got a replacement at Aspen dental for $600. This place and Affordable Dentures are The only places I know of that will get you Denture’s for under $1500. Personally, had an excellent experience at Aspen Dental (I’m in the Milwaukee area.). |
- Make long-lasting repairs and seal leaks on hiking boots, running or climbing shoes and even cleats
- This durable urethane adhesive, previously known as Freesole, bonds permanently to soles and heels; dries as a clear and flexible rubber that won’t peel or crack overtime
- Superior abrasion resistance makes Aquaseal SR ideal for creating toe protectors on work boots or re-building worn heels
- Compatible with all types of footwear including leather, suede, rubber, neoprene, canvas, and GORE-TEX boots and shoes
- Packaging may vary
User questions & answers
Question: | Would Freesole work to repair a seam that's starting to unravel above the heel on my favorite pair of leather boots? The rip is almost a 1/2 inch now |
Answer: | Freesole isn't really intended for that kind of repair, but for building up a worn down surface, or gluing two flat surfaces together. If it's a stitched seam up the back of the boot, and the stitching, not the leather is failing, it might prevent further unraveling. It probably wouldn't hold together two pieces of edge-butted leather, but if there's a leather liner behind the seam (dress boots), or a reinforcing strip over it (work boots), you may be able to glue the two sides down to it- but clamping it would be difficult and messy. A shoe tree would be the best way to maintain the shape during curing. If it were me, I'd go to a shoe repair shop - a good one could fix it better and faster. If they are high quality dress leather boots, the cost and appearance of a professional repair would be worth having a pro do it. |
Question: | After you use it, does the opening of the tube get clogged up (like in Elmer's glue)? If yes, what can be done to open up the tube again |
Answer: | Before storing for long time an opened tube, I put a little petroleum jelly on the thread of the nozzle. Then I take approx. 1"x1" piece of aluminum foil, also smear some jelly on it, cover the nozzle and jam it around the treads. Then screw on the cap on top of it. Store in the freezer. The jelly helps to (1) seal and prevent the solvent from evaporating; (2) prevent sticking the cap/foil to the nozzle. Make sure not to get the jelly on the material you are gluing next time. Some hardening may still occur: pry off the hardened part with a sharp tool (see the trick with a drill bit mentioned by J. Brown). I've managed to use one tube many times in a span of several months following this routine. |
Question: | almost the whole sole is coming off a pair of expensive loafers. will this hold that much on |
Answer: | I wasn't impressed with this product. Maybe others will have better luck? This didn't hold soles on for us. E6000 seemed better. |
Question: | The second time I wanted to use this product, it was hard in the tube and wouldn't come out. How do you get the product soft enough to squeeze it out |
Answer: | Hi, after the first time I used the Freesole, I put the cap on and put it in the freezer. The next time i used it, i took it out of the freezer and let it warm up for 15-20 minutes and it came out of the tube fine. They recommend you put the tube in warm water in the instructions. I hope this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will it work on felt soles for wading boots |
Answer: | It did not work for me AT ALL !! |
Question: | How long does it have to set up, before I can use the shoes again |
Answer: | i let it sit for a 24 hr period before wearing the shoes again. |
Question: | Does this only work for certain parts of the shoes or I can put it anywhere and does it leave a residue |
Answer: | BLACK: one I bought was black as tar. I did not notice the Clear version, which I'd buy in future. Black worked fine for my present use, though.I think the stuff sticks to most anything. It is sticky and black and hard to apply - it just squeezes out of the tube and needs to be spread by toothbrush or other brush or gloved fingers. It is great for rough repair like sole adhesion if you can get at the 2 surfaces needing adhesion. I've stuck pieces of leather together as well. But unless you carefully mask areas not to be marked up, it will leave a mess to greater or lesser extent. I kinda like the mess as it hardens to a nice shiny black finish and on the boots I have used this for, it does not look bad at all. MAYBE you can do fine repair of good stuff; but requires masking, I think. Residue is much like caulking material but jet black and not shot out of a tube or nozzle. So, hard to control. It ended up looking a lot better than the caulk repair used by cobbler prior to my own efforts, though, since I could spread it out nicely to feather out edges, which suited me just fine. These were boots on a second or third life so I did not care at all how they looked. Still holding up to hard use! |
Question: | What's the shelf life for a tube? I'm planning to keep it at home for emergencies |
Answer: | Not sure of total shelf life, but I've had a tube OPEN for a couple of months now and it still works fine.I just make sure the opening is clear of glue so the cap doesn't stick and all is good. |

Question: | Is there a way to remove/dissolve shoe goo once it's dried |
Answer: | I have not tried to remove the shoe goo after the product has dried. I do not see on the tube any directions on how to remove it from the shoe once it is applied. It may take mineral spirits (I like the minimal smell choice) it still should be done outside if you decide to try. To help make it not stick to the shoe... Wish you the best... |

User questions & answers
Question: | A liter is a big quantity to use up. What's the base of this? Do you have to use the branded thinner? How about turpentine |
Answer: | I use an acetone for clean up and for thinning if necessary. |
Question: | Would this glue Plexiglass to Rubber |
Answer: | barge is a contact cement. Stick it on each surface and let it dry about ten minutes, then stick the two pieces together. Wait overnight. Do it with two small pieces first. See what happens. I think any adhesive is going to rely on how much pressure you put on its performance down the road. |
Question: | Will this work for gluing leather to wood |
Answer: | Hmmm, haven't tried that application but would guesstimate it would as long as the wood to which the leather will be adhered is roughed up a bit with a file or some such. |
Question: | Will this be a good option for gluing a fabric/embroidered patch onto a leather shoe |
Answer: | Indeed it will. It's excellent for gluing the entire sole of the shoe back on if and when it delaminates. I get an extra 8 months out of running or athletic shoes using barge which is a contact cement. I like the applicator in the can. If the lid gets sticky clean it with actone. Apply to both surfaces and wait 20 mins. then stick it together. If I'm gluing soles back on, I use a clamp. It is great for regular leather as well. Be sparing on the patch with the amount you use. |
