Answer:	guess that would depend on the carpet, this mat I have sits on a carpet itself, the yellow part in the middle protrudes out a bit so when I keep my foot on that part I know I am in the center of the matt itself... and if I step off the matt I can tell that as well...plus the way it was formed wherever you stand on it you know what direction you are facing, you can't do that on a carpet, and trust me, its good to know front from back as you can get wrapped up in this VR stuff quickly.......HAVE FUN....

Answer:	The mat is made in such a way that there are up and down ridges you can feel with your feet, also there is a center tab and a tab at due North so you always know what direction you are standing, and if you step off you will know that as well...It has come in handy on a few occasions as you can get disoriented very easily, this takes out the guesswork and lets you know just by standing on it where you are in relation to the room you are in....

Answer:	It's a silicone cover that lays over the stock foam padding. Just make sure you detach the facial interface before applying the cover. I'm guessing those that complain in the reviews about it sliding all over, probably installed it directly on the foam without detaching the interface first.

Answer:	I don't know what the Elite 31337 is. This mat is good if you want a nice space to orient yourself while in VR. It has a center peg and a north peg that you can easily find with your feet so you know that you'll be standing where you need to be. It also has plenty of cushion for use with barefeet or socks. Can easily be rolled up and stored if needed as it includes a velcro strap for holding it rolled.
