The bone of contention in the second of two Blue's Clues software titles is that while the Nickelodeon TV show is a big hit, this byproduct follows the show and TV format a little too closely. The premise is like one of the show: All of Blue's friends are present--Steve, Tickety, Slippery--and they need help preparing for Blue's birthday celebration. Just like in the TV show, kids look for Blue's big paw-print clues--in this case in Blue's house and yard--to figure out what kind of food Blue wants at her party, what guests to invite, what party games to play, what gift to buy.

Throughout, click-on hotspots provide silly distractions. Fun thinking games, such as the Present Store, Flower Picking and Gift Wrap challenge kids' logic and skills of observation and pattern recognition. Kids even get to make a virtual pizza for the party. Indeed, while the learning's laid-back in these game; the play's the thing. But there's something of a linear feel that reflects a half-hour on television. Children choose one of four pathways, each of which pose their own set of activities that move the action closer to party time. This is a problem-solving adventure, you see, and not so much a drop-in-anytime activity title, which means younger children not have the patience to get with the program, as it were.

Based on the Blue's Clues TV show, this is a scavenger hunt game where children explore Blue's world to find presents, party hats, plates and other supplies needed for an upcoming birthday party. There are four adventures called pathways, each with a different set of clues and birthday items to find. It's fun but challenging, and kids may need help at times. There are a total of nine directed activities for which parents can set difficulty levels. These activities include matching objects and instrument sounds, making puzzles and fixing party favors. Kids can also make and print cards for Blue. Testers enjoyed the program, playing for hours at one time. Our two criticisms are minor. Kids have to get used to the cursor disappearing with each screen change. They often have to wiggle the mouse to find where the cursor is on the new screen. Also, the program ends when the three clues are found and the mystery is solved. Children accepted this but still wanted to go back to the unfinished aspects of each pathway.

The first sentence should read: "I have NOT tested this on Win7" But I do know that this will run on Windows 95 to XP and therefore, it should run fine on Win7 32 bit. But NOT Win7 64 bit. If you do not know which Win7, 32 or 64 bit you are running, go to your Start Button and click it, then in the pop up, click Computer. On the Computer screen, click on Operating Systems and on the next page toward the bottom, it will tell you if you have a 32 bit or 64 Win7. Thanks.
