13 best controllers for snes

Controllers for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) are gamepads designed specifically for this iconic 16-bit video game console. The SNES, released in the early 1990s, introduced a new generation of video games and remains beloved by retro gamers. Here's what you need to know about SNES controllers:

  1. Design: SNES controllers feature a distinctive design with a rectangular shape and a colorful layout of buttons. They are known for their comfortable grip and ergonomics.

  2. Buttons: The standard SNES controller has a total of eight buttons:

    • A, B, X, and Y buttons: Used for in-game actions like jumping, attacking, and interacting.
    • L and R shoulder buttons: Often used for secondary functions or additional actions in games.
    • Start and Select buttons: These buttons are used for pausing games and accessing menus.
  3. D-Pad: The directional pad, or D-pad, is located on the left side of the controller and is used for character movement and menu navigation.

  4. Cord Length: The cord attached to an SNES controller is typically around 6 feet long, allowing players to sit at a comfortable distance from the console.

  5. Connector: SNES controllers use a unique connector that plugs into the front of the SNES console. This connector is specific to the SNES and is not compatible with other gaming systems.

  6. Compatibility: SNES controllers are compatible with a wide range of games available for the SNES console. Some games, especially multiplayer titles, may support multiple controllers for cooperative or competitive gameplay.

  7. Variants: There are different variants of SNES controllers, including third-party controllers that may have additional features like turbo buttons or different designs. These controllers are often sought after by collectors.

  8. Multitap: In some cases, games required a multitap accessory to support more than two players. The multitap plugged into the controller port of the SNES and allowed for additional controller connections.

  9. Accessories: SNES controllers were sometimes bundled with the console, but they could also be purchased separately. Various accessories, such as extension cables, controller adapters, and cleaning kits, were available to enhance the gaming experience.

  10. Legacy: SNES controllers have left a lasting legacy in the gaming world. Many modern gaming controllers draw inspiration from the SNES design and layout. Additionally, emulators and SNES Classic Editions often include replica controllers for an authentic gaming experience.

SNES controllers hold a special place in the hearts of gamers who grew up playing classic titles on the SNES console. Their iconic design and precise button layout continue to be celebrated by retro gaming enthusiasts and collectors.

User questions & answers

Question: will it work on the snes classic
Answer: It should work with any lamp that uses standard incandescent or halogen bulbs, or most dimmable CFL bulbs. With LEDs it's a bit trickier, only some brands of dimmable LED bulbs will work. (This is because the switch draws a small amount of current through the light bulb and LEDs are so efficient that this tiny amount of power can make some bulbs glow even when the switch is off.)
Question: If these do not work for the retro duo, where does one aquire replacement controllers
Answer: Absolutely! The Lutron smart dimmer, does not require a neutral wire, and wires together similar to a normal switch, just be advised that this switch does not work with all LED frequency bulbs.
Question: Does this work with the retro duo system for both snes and nes games
Answer: There is another one, PD-5NE-XX*, that has the "bump" in the middle like the Pico remote. However, it is pricey (they showed $99-$135 on their web site: http://www.casetawireless.com/Pages/Products.aspx). Like the Pico remote, the bump is for a favorite setting, not the last setting. They also make one with a nightlight where the bump is: PJN-3BRL-GWH-L01, but that is a Pico remote, not the main switch.
Question: Do these work with the FC Twin console
Answer: These "two wire" dimmer switches are a little tricky. Assuming you went through your troubleshooting listed on your instructions (wiring, FASS switch) there are a couple of things to consider. If possible replace with an incandescent bulb as one will definitely give you the minimum load. If it doesn't work then it's defective. If the incadescent bulb works take a look at this document that discusses minimum loads:http://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/367-2035_LED_white_paper.pdfIt talks about minimum load of these types of units in general and it may be possible one LED may not be enough. Also there is an approved bulb list on their sitehttp://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/3683266_Caseta_CFL%20LED%20Bulb%20list.pdfThat will let you know if they've tested your bulb. I'm running multiple LED floods so I'm comfortably into minimum load range.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this controller work on nintendo switch for nes games
Answer: Hi.. My Netgear is GS108 8 Port and it is not support Web Managed. The GS116Ev2 is 16 Port and it is not same like the GS108.I did not see Netgear 5 Port with Web Managed. You can check it in WWW.NETGEAR.COMYou can find all the information heer http://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/switches/
Question: Is this compatible with snes portables like the retro-bit rdp
Answer: Yes. It can only handle CAT6A traffic on two ports. Everything else is lower baud.
Question: There were complaints about the dpad with the wired scout controller. Has this been improved, or is it the exact same controller but wireless
Answer: Certainly the GS724TP has fans; usually anything with multiple PoE ports will need cooling; from the data sheet: – Acoustic noise: 46.5 dB; that's pretty loud in an office/home environment, unless it's in an equipment room with other noisy servers and equipment; the fans are (necessarily) small, which means it's really difficult to make them quiet; they need to move a lot of air through a small aperture.
Question: its copatible and retron
Answer: I know this is 4 years later, it might help others. Using 1Gbps switches is the way to go rather than 10/100Mbps switches. Why? 1) They only cost a few Dollars more; 2) they have a long lifetime "future proofing" your tech purchases for new equipment that support 1Gbps rates, I have five 1Gbps Netgear 8-Port switches I bought in 2007 so they are now 13 years old, that's really good quality; 3) typical home equipment won't run at a full 1Gbps, however, depending on your equipment you'll get upwards of 300Mbps doing backups to a local 1Gbps storage device so take advantage of it; 4) I keep a small USB laptop cooling fan under my switches if there is space to help keep them a tad cooler for longevity, small inexpensive cooling fans can be had for less that $10 and use very little electricity. Managed v. Unmanaged: I think it is safe to say that for 99% of home users: 1) unmanaged is fine; 2) the router that connects to the Internet will manage QoS (Quality of Service for Voice, Video and Data prioritization, if you aren't sure about this, let the router figure it out for you no worries at all), VLANs (Virtual LANs if you use them are nice for wireless connections to have a special network just for visitors in your home so they ONLY have access to the Internet UNLESS you want them to interact with your stuff like gaming or movies or whatever - I trust those who I let access my ISP access however I just feel tad better knowing I have privacy) and the router manages IP address allocations via DHCP; 3) If you are a tech geek and like to fidget and do stuff I totally understand, then managed might be what you want and you'll pay more. I'm an IT Infrastructure consultant who cut my teeth on 10Mbps 1/2 Duplex Ethernet back in 1983, and I don't have a need for managed switches for the house. I do have a good router that I can do "stuff" to, very little (QoS, reserved IP addresses for storage devices and printers so I always know the assigned IP address, wireless guest VLAN, how month monthly traffic that we send/receive out of curiosity, give names to devices' MAC addresses so I know what is connected) but I'm happy as a little clam not having to fuss. My take on tech: if the computer can handle it well, let it. I like using wired connections for the TV, DVD player, DVR, printer, storage device for local back-ups, my offices' docking stations. Wireless is left for devices like iPads, smartphones, guests' devices, my laptop when I undock it and take it around the house or if there isn't a wired area to connect. I use Netgear switches in the TV cabinet for the TV, DVR and DVD/Blue-ray devices then connect the switch to a CAT6 UTP wall port and that connects to another LAN switch that aggregates all the home LAN switches in my office closet and connects to the router that connects to my ISP. IMHO, the Netgear 1,000/100/10Mbps (1Gbps) switches are just a tad more than the 10/100Mbps devices and are the way to go. And, I also spend a tad more on the GS108 and GS105 ProSafe switches (I have no need at this time for PoE - Power Over Ethernet, however this is handy for video security so you run one wire and if you have power and your video cam has wireless, be sure to use encryption to secure your video feed) that have a lifetime hardware warranty (power adapter is like 2 years I think). I've only had to replace 1 or 2 of my ProSafe switches with the warranty. This stuff just works. Typically when a ProSafe switch acts-up, it the power supply that is relatively cheap to replace, and new ones are really better than the one Netgear supplies. NETGEAR: Listen up - a high quality power supply should only cost a few Dollars more, think about it. Hope this helps people.

User questions & answers

Question: how long is the wire
Answer: I assume you are talking about the Switch. If so, the answer is no.
Question: How is this controller compatible with the Nintendo Switch? Is it usb-c
Answer: You need to pair them. Plug in 1 receiver and power on the controller. Then plug in the 2nd receiver and power on the next controller. Thereafter they should pair up everytime you turn on the controllers. Also you need to setup up by key mapping them in the retropi options under settings and controller. They are plug and play.
Question: Is there a trick to getting this to work on switch? It won't recognize it when plugging into the dock
Answer: They are only controllers, so they need to be plugged into system. I use mine with a retro pie, raspberry pie system.
Question: Whats the difference between the Upad controller and the jpad controller
Answer: Is that on a gaming console, pc, retro-pi, something else? Make sure you arent too far, nothing is in the way, and your gaming device has some space. I found that some emulated games on PC are trash because the emulator is not good enough or your computer is trash.
