About the Seller

My name is Carrie. I am the mom of 3 active, curious boys who have always been eager to get their hands on everything so that they can learn how it works and why it does what it does. I was also a Cub Scout leader and was always coming up with fun, creative activities to keep 13 rowdy boys excited and interested in learning. It was important to me to provide high quality projects that fascinated kids while also teaching important lessons.

I started STEM Discovery Boxes after realizing how much work it was to research projects, come up with ideas, purchase separate materials from multiple locations, cut individual pieces, organize instructions, learn the science lesson behind the projects and then have my kids and scouts test the ease of creating the projects... just to find out that some experiments didn't even work. Ugh. It was also expensive to purchase everything to make only a few projects. I wanted everything ready to go without any hassle. Ta da! STEM Discovery Boxes was born!

STEM Discovery Boxes are geared toward boys and girls ages 7 to teen... but honestly, adults love to tinker with our projects as much as kids do!

How long do the projects take to complete?

Each box includes a variety of THREE hands-on activities that range from quick-and-easy to more time consuming. This gives each parent/child a selection to choose from that best fits the amount of time they have available: from 20 min - 1 hour per project.

Kids can do easier projects alone and more difficult projects may need adult help or supervision.

Young chemists will experiment and flex their chemistry and doodling muscles by creating four kinds of slime. Kids will create black chalkboard slime and doodle on it with chalkboard art markers. They'll also make glow-in-the-dark slime, fluffy slime, slime fish, and glow worms and test alternative slime recipes using conditioner and gelatin.

What types of materials do you use, and where do they come from?

Some of our favorite supplies to include in our boxes are recycled felt, recycled paper, and recycled ribbon. We also love to include natural materials like wool, yarn, colored sand, clay, canvas, noodles, cruelty-free feathers, shells, jute twine, cotton fabrics, and wood. We source project materials and packaging supplies from reputable, sustainable companies that have a green standard.

How many children can use one box?

We provide a lot of materials for one child – many of our projects, but not all, can accommodate two children. Collaboration is a great part of any project, and we encourage children to work together as they explore each new art and science concept. You can also choose to order an additional subscription. Question:	I am a 14 year old but I’m doing sixth grade science am I too old for this
Answer:	It depends on how much you want to learn coding. My grandchildren were 10 and really enjoyed learning the basics of coding. The 1st package has 6 lessons in it. The next package has 6 more. Each lesson builds on the last ones. You have to have a good memory and practice frequently in order to remember the sequences. My grandchildren and I did fine until the 6th lesson in the 1st package. It was a lot of fun, but you need to have patience and determination. I think it’s more math related, than science. You can always buy the 1st package, cancel the subscription and start the subscription later if you are still interested. Hope this helps. Take care.
Question:	Can more than one child use this? Or do I have to purchase a separate kit for each kid
Answer:	You can set up multiple children’s accounts. No charges. Each child can work st his/her own pace. Once set up, the accounts can be accessed from multiple devices.

Answer:	To get the most out of Bitsbox, a kid should be able to read a little bit. I'd say 6 years old, but that's assuming either your child can read OR a grownup is willing to sit and help out.

Answer:	I think it's perfect for a 10 yr old. Very young children enjoy manipulating the apps but do not, as yet, understand the ability to write the code that directs the action.

What kind of computer do I need to do Bitsbox?

Bitsbox teaches typed coding, so a keyboard is critical. The best computer is a laptop or desktop running Chrome, Safari, or any modern web browser.

What programming language does Bitsbox teach?

Bitsbox uses JavaScript with a handful of custom commands that make it easier for beginners to build stuff with cool graphics and sounds.

I have a two year old. Do you recommend this crate for them?

The activities in these crates are designed for children 3 to 5 years old. The crates often include small balls or small parts that can be choking hazards and therefore we don't recommend these crates for two year olds.

How many children can use one crate?

The crates are designed for one child. With that said, several families with siblings or twins have made one crate work. It is a great opportunity to work on teamwork and sharing.

Are the activities reusable?

Many of the items are reusable (games and sensory bins), but the crafts are one-time activities.

Answer:	We focus on including healthy, nutritious treats in our boxes. All treats are made in North America, with occasional features from Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Many of the treats we include are all-natural, organic, and/or grain-free, but unfortunately we can't guarantee they'll be grain-free every month. However, we do offer a dietary box option in which you'd receive an extra toy or accessory in place of the treats!

Answer:	I ordered one, and was going to cancel after the first box, but have now decided to get another. When I don't have the funds I am going to go into my subscriptions to cancel, its rather easy.
Question:	Is there a way to subscribe every-other month
Answer:	The only option is to subscribe monthly or cancel and restart, the problem with that is that if you restart you often get the same toys as before, it seems they have preset boxes so restarting may result in duplicate toys, hope this helps!

Answer:	You likely have to pick up lots of dog piles.
Question:	My dog destroyed the toys in the box we tried in 1/2 hour. Can we be signed up for the toughest toys
Answer:	If the toy is damaged within 14 days of arriving, just send a message to them with a photo and what you want it replaced with. You can only do one “return” order every 30 days”. So send them the photo and if nothing else failed then send email to send replacements. I just did two replacements my pit destroyed the rubber and the rope in 10 min. I sent photo of each one. His nylon are fine he can’t destroy them, I emailed Emily (she was helping me) and said please go ahead with the two damages. Three days later he got a new nylon and a ballistic fabric.
