Answer:	No. It comes with batteries already installed. The toy has an on/off switch to help save battery power. My kids' have had theirs approx. 5-6 months with no need to replace batteries yet.

Answer:	The dimensions of the package are 8.5" x 5.5" x 3". I'm not sure it would fit in a stocking, but it really depends on the size of the stocking. If you really want to use it as a stocking stuffer, maybe you should take it out of the box. Then it should fit easily.
