User questions & answers

Question: Is Israel shown with current borders or pre1967 borders
Answer: The surface of the Mariner Globe is smooth.
Question: Is the country of Cyprus clearly labled
Answer: No,just the lunchbox
Question: Are you able to use push pins on this globe
Answer: Hi, I purchased BKR 8oz glass bottle to fit in the sleeve of this lunchbox, but it was too tight for my 6 yo to manage. The sleeve is rather narrow, so you'd need a very slim bottle. I actually don't use all the containers that come with the lunchbox, so I just stack the two larger ones on one side and put the water bottle on the other side and not use the sleeve. I just really wanted a glass bottle for my kid, so this arrangement works for me....but if you want to use the sleeve, get something that is slim in diameter that can hold around 8 oz. Aside form the narrow bottle sleeve, it's a great little lunch bag and I'm quite happy with it. I hope this helps!
Question: What is the finish like? Would you be able to write on it with a sharpie
Answer: I ordered this one for my granddaughter. She's 12 and wears glasses and loves her kitty. I see no reason why a boy shouldn't like it. She has gotten many compliments on it from boys and girls. It's a good fit for her. My only complaints are that mine did not have the silverware with it, and it's difficult to find a water bottle that fits into the side net that's designed for a water bottle or thermos of some sort.

Butterflies: Their Natural History and Diversity

Butterflies are insects. They have the standard combination of features that define insects as animals: an outer covering, or exoskeleton, made from a polysaccharide called chitin; a body divided into head, thorax and abdomen; six jointed legs attached to the thorax; a breathing system based on a series of tubes, or tracheae, that run through the body and open along the side through a series of breathing holes, or spiracles; a pair of antennae on the head; and an open circulatory system supplied by a heart that pumps a fluid called hemolymph through the animal’s body. As in most insect lineages, adult butterflies have multifaceted compound eyes and two pairs of wings, the forewings and hindwings, which arise from the second and third segments of the thorax.

Butterflies are moths. That statement may surprise you, but in an evolutionary sense butterflies are a single day–flying branch – one that contains some 17,500 species in 6, or perhaps 7 families – of a moth family tree with roughly 200,000 members in more than 125 families. Butterflies and moths belong to the order Lepidoptera, or “scaly wings,” named for the tiny overlapping scales that cover their wings. Butterflies are part of an advanced moth lineage that contains 99% of living lepidopteran species. Except for a very few ancient moth families, adult lepidopterans lack functional chewing mandibles. Most have instead a coiled “tongue,” or proboscis, adapted to feeding on nectar and other liquids. The easiest way to tell butterflies from other moths is to look at the antennae. Most moth antennae are either plain-tipped or feather-like, while almost (but not quite) all butterfly antennae are tipped with club-like knobs, surmounted in the skippers (Hesperiidae) with whisker-like extensions.

Butterflies and moths are holometabolous, meaning that they go through four life stages: egg, larva, pupa and adult. Holometabolous insects, collectively known as Endopterygota, include flies (Diptera), beetles (Coleoptera) and bees, wasps and ants (Hymenoptera), as well as a number of smaller orders, including the one closest to butterflies and moths, the caddisflies (Trichoptera). There are some 850,000 of them – more than half of all the known species of animals on Earth.

Cithaerias pireta, Braulio Carillo National Park, Costa Rica

The wings of the Pink-tipped Glasswing Satyr (Cithaerias pireta, Subfamily Satyrinae) of central and northwestern South America have lost almost all of their scales, but retain the bars and eyespots of the ancestral nymphalid ground plan (see p. 11). Scales still form the eyespots, but the wing bars of Cithaerias, uniquely in the family, are marked directly on the wing membrane itself.

Anastrus obscurus, Risaralda, Colombia

Anastrus obscurus belongs to a genus of 11 species found from Mexico to Argentina. It is one of more than 100 species of tropical American skippers, from many genera, whose males (and, much more rarely, females) attend columns of army ants. Birds follow the ants to snatch up insects flushed out by the marauding ant columns, and the skippers are there to feed on the birds’ droppings. From the droppings the males get sodium and nitrogen, some of which they pass on to the females during mating.

Pachliopta aristolochiae, Erawan National Park, Thailand

The Common Rose (Pachlioptila aristolochiae), a widespread and variable Southeast Asian butterfly, ranges from India and China to Bali and the Philippines. Its caterpillars feed largely on Dutchman’s pipe (Aristolochia spp). The toxins they pick up from their diet make this species and its near relatives highly unpalatable to birds. A number of other swallowtails mimic them, copying both their appearance and their manner of flight. One form of the female Common Mormon (Papilio polytes) mimics the Common Rose but lacks red on its body.

Zerynthia polyxena, Padan Plain, Italy

The Southern Festoon (Zerynthia polyxena) frequents sunny Mediterranean slopes, mostly below 900 m (3,000 ft), from southern France to the Ural Mountains. It flies in a single brood from April to June. Adults are usually on the wing for only three weeks. Festoon caterpillars feed on birthworts (Aristolochia), and the toxins in their food plants pass from the caterpillars to the adults. The blue and red spots on the Southern Festoon’s hindwings may be a warning to predators that this is a butterfly to avoid.

Parnassius apollo, Switzerland

The Apollo (Parnassius apollo) is at home on steep slopes and flower-covered alpine meadows, where adults visit thistles and knapweeds (Centaurea) and lay their eggs on succulent stonecrops (Sedum). Females may reach 9 cm (3.5 in) across. Local populations of Apollos are scattered across the mountainous regions of Europe and temperate Asia, mostly at elevations between 500 and 2,400 m (1,640–7,900 ft). Males visit tall, long-stemmed flowers while females keep close to the ground, apparently to avoid pursuit by their mates.

Battus philenor, Nashville, Tennessee, USA

The Pipevine Swallowtail (Battus philenor) is one of a number of swallowtails that take up toxic chemicals from their host plants as caterpillars, and carry them in their bodies into adulthood. Other butterflies, including other swallowtails, mimic its appearance.

Thanks for HD Printing Technology, now a plastic ball can be sold times more, the vivid printing color mimic the true nature of the gemstone globe, paired with part metal part plastic stands and they can FAUX a gemstone globe,

Unfortunately, not just not a collectible product, A PVC printed globe does not last long, they are fragile especially with direct sunlight.

How do you spot a Fake globe in compare with true Unique Art Gemstone globe that will last life time:

1: Unique Art globe has a coin size twin lions trade mark logo at south pole area

2: you will not find any pearl ocean models nor countries in pearl shells with PVC printed globes cause those shinning pearls and shells are extremely hard to print, they use more deeper color inks to fake deeper color stones and especially like pink rosy color for Austria, and oh yes all their globes are exactly same in country shapes cause they are printed. Unique Art Gemstone Globes are never the same due to true hand cut and paste. Every single globe from Unique art brand is an Unique globe

3. Use a high beam flash light that you will reveal that except the color line, you will not see any stone to ocean or stone to stone gaps thanks to great pvc printing technology, a plastic ball can be sold over times in profits)

User questions & answers

Question: Why is this globe shaped like an oval
Answer: Yes
Question: how tall is this product
Answer: No legend. This a beautiful piece of art. We got this for my SIL 10 year business anniversary and he loves it.
Question: Does it light up
Answer: I clean my globe with window cleaner, same with the stand. It hasnt hurt it so far and ive owned mine for many uears
Question: Is that "twin lion" logo attached to the actual globe stand or is that a watermark on the picture
Answer: for somehow.....amazon is selling many flooring gemstone globes under their cost, especially they pay for expensive shipping cost for this large package, I would strongly suggest you get it now before amazon realizes the lost on selling this, the stand would cost you more, this item needs to be sold at least $375 to break-even, not sure how and why, but amazon sticks on pricing this, as a seller of this product, we would not able to offer it lower than $400 if ships from our end

Answer: It is ridged and doesn't bend but it is razor sharp so I'd recommend using a file to debur the edges. It sliced my finger open.
Question: Is the globe made of metal? I would like to put magnets on places visited
Answer: Mine didn't come with a grommet, and it's a pretty big opening, so the grommets I have were too small. I had to make shift one with wet paper towels.
