User questions & answers
Question: | Does it come painted as shown |
Answer: | no it doesn't. it comes with a clear piece that you paint yourself. |
Question: | What paint was used to make the Herbie edition? And is the chrome bumper, mirror and headlight bezel part of the clear plastic body |
Answer: | You will need Polycarbonate Paint, also known as Lexan or Polycarb. Tamiya makes these paints in spray cans. You will paint the INSIDE of the body. Tamiya's Lexan compatible paints start with the part number TAM86. I think the Orange you are looking for is the TAM86007 which is a standard orange. I would also buy a can of white spray, TAM86001. You will use this as a backer to the orange to make it 'brighter'. To paint, clean the inside of the body with warm water and dish soap to remove any and all oils from the painting surface. Completely dry the inside of the body. Use a paper towel to get the majority of the water. Then use a hair dryer to get it completely dry. The first layer of paint, orange in this case, should always be put down very lightly. You will want to do about 3 to 4 light coats of orange. Use sweeping steady motions to lightly paint the inside of the body. Then use the hair dryer to dry that layer of paint. Then go back for the 2nd layer of paint. Then use the hair dryer to dry that coat. After about 3-4 light layers of paint, the body should be fully coated with orange. You can hold the body up to the light to see if you missed any areas as they will be lighter. Once you're satisfied with the orange, lay down a layer or two of white paint. This will provide a bright backer to the paint and lighten it up, making it really pop. From the photos, it appears that the blue stripes are decals that will come with the kit. So you don't have to worry about painting the blue parts, it would seem that they are stickers that you would apply at the very end, after painting and removing the protective outer film. Speaking of outer film, the way that lexan bodies work is that you paint the inside of the body. Lexan paint is flat in nature, matte. It has no glossy finish to it. So by painting the inside, the clear lexan provides the glossiness when viewed from the outside. Now, to protect the outside of the body from over-spray when you're painting, most companies put a clear film on the outside of the body. This film needs to be removed AFTER you're done painting and BEFORE you apply stickers or decals. Lastly, to paint the hood black, you have two options of approach. 1) You can use masking tape to cover up the hood on the inside of the body. You would do this before spraying ANY paint. Masking would be your first step after cleaning and drying the body. Then paint your orange and white as described above, then remove the masking tape once the paint is dry to reveal the still clear hood area. Use the same method above, light coats, to paint the hood black. 2) An easier approach, that could work in this situation, is to actually paint the black on the outside of the body. While this is unconventional of course, it will provide a matte black finish for your hood. And it is also much much easier than masking out the hood on the inside of the body. So you would paint the entire inside of the body orange, with white backer. Then simply use a hobby knife, like an X-acto, to carefully cut through the outer film around the hood. Remove the outer film only on the hood section. Then paint the outside of the body where the hood is. The outer film acts as masking tape :-) Allow the paint to dry. Then remove the rest of the outer film. Violla! A matte black hood that was easy to do. Please note that this vehicle requires Assembly, 2-channel radio system, steering servo, 7.2volt battery & battery charger, and Paint. |
Question: | Top speed |
Answer: | It’s a 540 motor so varies depending on what gearing you change it to |
Question: | What is the max speed for brush or brushless |
Answer: | LOL, that is such an open ended question. Speed of an RC car depends on: 1) Gearing 2) Motor size (turns and/or KV value) 3) Battery/voltage going into your system (ie, 2s, 3s, etc). -- I am sure w/ modification you could get this kit to go 100mph, but it would probably fall apart and not handle worth a darn. |

Question: | What I need to buy additional items with this truck so I can fully run it after I build it ? Such as remote control etc ... ? And what type |
Answer: | A number of items are required to run the Toyota Tundra listed below,* An RC 4 channel stick type radio, e.g Futaba Attack. If you're going to outfit your vehicle with the optional multifunction units (MFU) for sound and more lighting effects, you will need to choose an analog radio, e.g a HiTec Laser 6 - 75MHz. Shifting into gear is extremely easy once your transmission is adjusted correctly* A battery pack* A battery charger* I would also recommend to get the optional metal ball bearing "53958 High-Lift Full BB Set 58372/58415" which will increase your vehicle performance rather than using the included plastic ball bearingsGood luck,Amjad |
Question: | can you put a brushless motor in it |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this motor work for an Ecx ruckus |
Answer: | You need to measure the stock Dynamite 380 can to compare, but the Tamiya dimensions are 38mm long X 27.7mm diameter. It should fit diameter-wise, but you're gonna have to measure the length to make sure. Also keep in mind that the pinion shaft is fully round for press-on pinions. If your pinion has the grub screw, you'll either have to dremel a flat spot on the shaft or get a different motor. |
Question: | Is this tamiya 380 motor powerful to move forward/reverse an a redcat rockslide 1/10 scale |
Answer: | No that motor is for a 1/18 scale not 1/10 scale you'll need a 55t brushed motor and Amazon has them for 15$ |
Question: | What is the length and outside diameter of the motor casing, or are all 380 types the same |
Answer: | A 380 motor can is about 38mm long and 28mm in diameter. The length does not include bump-outs for the bearings or the shaft. |
Question: | Which color wire is positive and which is negative? Green is black and yellow is red? Or visa versa |
