- A quilt for every last scrap! Realize your fabric’s full potential with 16 quilts and projects
- Sort scraps into squares, strings, triangles, and snippets, with inventive quilts for each
- Honor the scrap quilters before us by stitching your own quilt to snuggle under
Tip:
Alternating Seam Directions
When arranging the blocks, place all of the seamlines of the white-bordered blocks horizontally. Place all of the seamlines of the color-bordered blocks vertically. This will make assembly easier, and it will prevent bulky seams between the blocks.
Projects Using Squares
Fabric Selection
Several light-colored fabric scraps were used for the background. A variety of red-and-white polka-dot fabrics were used for the chain. If you are unsure of your fabric choices, audition them on a design wall. Step back several feet to determine if the combination is successful or not. This is especially helpful when determining if a particular background fabric will blend with the others or if it will stand out too much.
Vary the Width of Strips
The number of strips needed for each block will vary depending on the width of each strip. Use wider strips on the outermost edge of each block to allow plenty of room for trimming.
Forty-Niner
Explore the possibilities of using squares with Laurie Simpson--nine patches and four patches, to be exact. It's amazing what you can do with these humble blocks.
Scrap Diving
Scrappy LeMoyne Stars combined with classic Log Cabin blocks create a cohesive design in this quilt by Susan Ache.
Christmas All Year
This beauty by Lissa Alexander uses strip pieced star units with no set-in seams to create a quilt that looks complicated but is achievable. Practice makes perfect!
Little Light of Mine
The layout for this Log Cabin design is often referred to as lanterns; a traditional layout that can read as modern depending on how you play with your fabrics. With its variety of layout options, the Log Cabin is one of the most versatile--and popular--quilt designs.
Mini Orange Zigzag
This mini quilt is pieced using the technique English paper piecing. Don't be afraid to use plaids and stripes, regardless of the bias edges or stripes that don't run straight. That is what adds charm.
Influencers
Sherbet-colored scraps and signatures- soft shades of scraps are the perfect complement to the special signatures this quilt holds. Lissa Alexander made this quilt in honor of some of the people who have been influences on her life. A scrap quilt with a controlled palette takes the guesswork out of trying to decide how many different fabrics to use.
Math Art and Drawing Games For Kids
I really did not like math at first. I remember crying over it often as a kid. I was so relieved when I was finished taking my last math class in college, thinking I would be finished with it forever! When I started homeschooling my kids, I saw that this would not be the case. It was when my own kids started telling me that they hated math that I really thought hard about how to teach it in new ways. It was important to me that my kids did not have the same feelings about math that I always did.
We always hear how important it is to know and understand math. It’s used in life in so many ways. When you can find a little joy and meaning in math, there’s less fear of it. In this book, I teach you different ways it’s used in real life. These art projects will help you bring some excitement to your math lessons by getting creative and messy with math!
This book is geared towards kids ages 8 to 12. I have two kids in that age range, and they did each project along with me as I worked on this book. It made me smile to see how much fun they had.
The most important thing I want to you understand from this book is that math really and truly can be enjoyable. So get ready to have fun and create some amazing art!
Paul Klee’s Geometric Mosaic
Paul Klee (1879-1940) was a Swiss-German artist who worked during the late 1800s and early 1900s. He had a unique style influenced by cubism, impressionism, and surrealism. This project is based on his painting Castle and Sun, which is made up of colorful geometric shapes that form a castle. You can create your own piece of art patterned after Klee’s painting using pieces of paper.
Jasper Johns’s Hidden Number Art
Jasper Johns (1930- ) is an American artist known for pop art and abstract expressionism. He created a fun painting involving numbers titled Abstract Number Art that inspired this project.
Frank Lloyd Wright’s Geometric Stained-Glass Art
Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) was an American architect. In his buildings, he made some beautiful stained-glass creations. This project is based on some of his stained-glass work. Wright designed the Avery Coonley Playhouse as a kindergarten room and used colorful shapes that suggested balloons, flags, and confetti in its windows. Have fun designing and creating your own Wright-inspired stained-glass art.
Splash Patterns
This project is messy and tons of fun! Wear clothes and shoes that wash easily or that you don’t mind getting a little messy. You will need a large roll of paper or old newspapers, a metal baking sheet or tray, and washable paint rocks.
Kirigami Paper Cutting
Kirigami is a style of origami, but it involves cutting the paper as well as folding it. The term kirigami comes from the Japanese words kiri, which means “cut,” and kami, which means “paper.” This project uses a few simple shapes to make three-dimensional pop-outs.
Spiral Squares
This project combines measuring with shapes to make a stunning design. You will use stacks of squares that descend in size and a little glue to make this fun work of art. You will need colored paper graph paper, a ruler, a pencil, scissors, and glue.
Native American Quill Art
Native Americans use porcupine quills in embroidery and jewelry. The Ojibwe people, for example, are famous for their quill boxes made from birch bark and porcupine quills. The design used is an eight-sided star that’s an important symbol to the Sioux people.
Pattern Block Cookies
Learning is always more fun when food—especially cookies—is involved! These pattern block cookies are exciting to make, use for math patterns, and eat. When you combine multiple senses in your learning, you will remember it more. So, enjoy eating your way through learning!

About SHARING TIME
SHARING TIME is a meaningful & enlightening game developed by people just like you. Making effort to help you build a great parent-child relationship for you and your loved ones.
Children are growing up faster than we could have imagined. And we hope they know that they can always come to us and they will always be safe with us.
However, as busy parents, our brains are too tired and fried to come up with questions that will get a real, meaningful conversation going.
We wonder whether it's possible to instill that confidence through play.
So here it is for you and your kids. By asking the questions in this game and listening closely to the answer, you can discover your child’s deepest thoughts, wishes, aspirations, and fears.
You’ll close any distance that’s come between you and your child during the day so you both go to bed feeling connected, loved, and happy.
We learn nothing from these conversations,
- “How was your day at school?” “Fine.”
- “What did you learn today?” “Nothing.”
- “Who did you play with today?” “No one.”
If we really want to know we have to ask relevant questions. SHARING TIME helps you to create an open atmosphere for communication at all times.
Join us in our quest to keep the door open for the people closest and most important to us to come through at any time. When you know your child you can help him or her to navigate this maze of life!

Product description
If you’re looking for a game that is fun, simple to play, family friendly and educational, “Wise Man, Foolish Man” is a great choice! There’s a great history and purpose behind this game that we’d like to share. When we were growing up, our Grandma gave us a game very much like this one. We played it all the time, and when the dilapidated card deck needed to be replaced, we were sad to learn that the game was discontinued. We wanted to bring back this game so we can play it again and so other families can enjoy it too. We believe it’s a great way to get children (and adults) away from their screens and to spend quality time together. We like to say we’re helping to turn screen time into family time! So from our family to yours, we hope you enjoy the game, the family time and the memories! “Wise Man, Foolish Man” is a fun and educational card game that features thirteen characters from the book of Proverbs. Some characters are wise and some are foolish. Each character has four traits. Throughout the game, players will become familiar with the qualities of the Wise, Prudent and Faithful while also learning how to recognize the Angry, Foolish and Naïve. Each card features a verse from Proverbs about that specific character. This game is somewhat similar to the popular “fish card game” that everyone knows so well. Learning about character traits in this game helps players recognize wise men and foolish men even in real life. This Christian based game is for children, teens and parents who like to have fun. The game is for 2 to 8 players. There is also an easier version of play for young children who cannot read. Directions for the easy version are included in the game rules. Included: 52 high quality and durable playing cards that will withstand heavy use and a storage box and directions. Makes great great birthday and Christmas gifts, can be used a home schooling resource or in church and youth groups, summer camps, camping and more. ENJOY!
- FUN AND EDUCATIONAL RELIGIOUS FAMILY GAME: This is a fun and educational card game that features thirteen characters from the book of Proverbs. Some characters are wise, and some are foolish. Each character has four traits. Throughout the game, players will become familiar with the qualities of the Wise, Prudent and Faithful while also learning how to recognize the Angry, Foolish and Naive. Each card features a verse from Proverbs about that specific character.
- WHAT’S INCLUDED WITH THIS FUN AND EDUCATIONAL FAMILY CARD GAME: 52 high quality and durable playing cards that will withstand heavy use; a storage box to protect the cards and prevent them from being lost; and easy to follow game directions. Proudly made in the USA.
- FUN BIBLE GAME FOR CHILDREN: While some religious games or Bible based games are corny or boring, Wise Man Foolish Man is a simple yet fun and entertaining card game for kids. Great game for children, teens and adults. There is also an “Easy Version” of play for young children. Directions for the “Easy Version” are included in the game rules. This game is similar to the popular “fish card game” but more advanced. The game can accommodate from 2 to 8 players.
- UNIQUE GAME FOR TEACHING CHILDREN ABOUT CHARACTER: This game was developed by a family who played a similar game when they were children. When the cards became damaged, they could not find a replacement game, so they created their own version to help teach children about character traits and the value of personal character
- CREATE MEMORIES AS A FAMILY: If you want to reduce screen time and increase quality family time, this fun and educational game is a great way to do that; and it makes great birthday and Christmas gifts. This is a great game for teachers, a perfect game for church groups, a terrific game for youth groups and an excellent game for home school groups.
User questions & answers
Question: | Is it played like go fish? Or how is it actually played |
Answer: | This game can be played like go fish where any player can ask for any wise or foolish character in a suit they already have, but there is also a more advanced version that requires players to ask for a specific wise or foolish character within a suit they already have. The 3 other options available to ask for are listed on the bottom of every other card in the suit. The simpler version with rules like go fish is great for younger children, the more advanced version is captivating to older players. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the package say therapy on it |
Answer: | This is not a therapy game. Another therapist/customer commented and explained how these questions are superficial at best and potentially harmful in a therapeutic setting. |
Question: | Would this game be appropriate for 6-10 year olds? Asking those who have actually used the game at home or in therapy |
Answer: | Clearly, stacking block games are available for as little as $10 and even Jenga can be purchased for around $15. So, to justify the $32 price for Breaking Barriers Down, the game comes with a deck of question cards that are supposedly about emotional growth for kids in this age group. The truth is the majority of the questions are bland and lack any therapeutic value. In regards to therapy, the added cost of $22 for this deck of cards with a $10 stack of blocks is not justified. In regards to use at home, parents can find much more interesting questions in other games or find a $10 stack of blocks and write questions with a pencil on the bottom of blocks. Or, they can find a stacking game that has a variety of question card decks including blank cards for writing original questions specifically for their kid. Breaking Barriers Down is appropriate for 6-10 year olds but it’s overpriced and the questions are dull for home and of very little value for therapy. |
Question: | Are these wooden or plastic |
Answer: | The breaking down barriers blocks are wooden. |
Question: | I want only the cards. Are those available for sale singuly |
Answer: | I don’t believe so |
