14 best new card games
New card games, particularly dedicated deck card games, have gained popularity in recent years. These games offer unique experiences, often with specialized decks designed for specific gameplay mechanics. Here's what you should know about them:
Dedicated Deck Card Games: Dedicated deck card games are a subset of card games that revolve around the use of custom-made decks designed for a particular game. Unlike traditional playing cards, these games require players to use the specific cards provided with the game.
Gameplay Variety: Dedicated deck card games can vary widely in terms of gameplay. Some are strategy-focused, while others emphasize storytelling or quick decision-making. The rules and objectives can differ significantly from one game to another.
Deck Building: Many dedicated deck card games involve deck-building elements. Players start with a basic set of cards and gradually build their deck by acquiring new cards during the game. This dynamic strategy adds depth and replayability.
Popular Examples: There are numerous dedicated deck card games on the market. Some popular examples include "Magic: The Gathering," "Yu-Gi-Oh!," "KeyForge," "Dominion," and "Netrunner."
Collectible vs. Living Card Games: These games can be divided into collectible card games (CCGs) and living card games (LCGs). In CCGs, players purchase random card packs, making it a collectible hobby. LCGs, on the other hand, release fixed expansions, ensuring that players know what cards they are acquiring.
Themes and Settings: Dedicated deck card games often feature rich and immersive themes and settings. They may draw inspiration from various genres, including fantasy, science fiction, horror, and more.
Solo and Multiplayer Options: Many of these games offer both solo and multiplayer options, allowing players to enjoy the game on their own or with friends and opponents.
Expansions: Game publishers often release expansion sets, introducing new cards, mechanics, and themes. These expansions keep the game fresh and provide new challenges for players.
Tournaments and Competitive Play: Dedicated deck card games frequently have organized tournaments and competitive scenes. Players can test their skills against others in local, national, or even international competitions.
Accessories: To enhance the gaming experience, players may invest in accessories such as card sleeves, playmats, and storage solutions to protect and organize their card collections.
Dedicated deck card games offer a dynamic and strategic gaming experience, allowing players to immerse themselves in rich and diverse game worlds.Whether you enjoy tactical battles, collecting rare cards, or exploring intricate narratives, there's likely a dedicated deck card game that suits your interests within the realm of tabletop gaming and toys and games.

SKYJO – This is the name of the new and exciting game from the publisher Magilano, promising fun and entertainment for many evenings to come. In card game SKYJO the goal is to collect as few points as possible over the course of several turns as after every round every player’s points are counted and added to his score. As soon as a player reaches 100 points or more the player with the fewest points wins. Collecting the fewest points means to look for low or even negative numbers. Further excitement is added by several special rules, which for example make it possible to remove several cards (and with it points) from the game – this can lead to unexpected turns. This motivates daring decisions that might even come back to bite, if the other players can counter faster than expected.
What is needed to play? Enough space for 12 cards in front of each player. A positive side effect: When playing, your hands are free, so you can count points or eat snacks. As the game rules are quite easy, small talk during your turns is no problem.
- Educational Gaming: Train arithmetic and concentration skills
- No directly competitive game: Every player plays for himself and there is no way to directly “harm” other players
- Hands free: The cards stay on the table and do not need to kept in one’s hands
Recommendation:
● Suitable as family, adult, kids, travel and holiday game as well as birthday present and easter gift
● At least two players or more, the more players the more fun the game is
● Especially suited for children:
- YOUR GOAL: Try to get as few points as possible through flipping, trading and collecting cards over the course of several rounds. This is only possible as long as a player has not uncovered all his cards, because then ends a round. So beware, keep a close eye on the game and be cautious and wary of the other player's actions!
- LOTS OF FUN for your friends and family. SKYJO is an entertaining card game that is lots of fun for kids and even older game enthusiasts (adults).
- FAST GAME START: Easy to learn game rules! Includes a short manual with pictures. Ideal for a short game in-between other activities and as staple game for exciting evenings. A turn-based and time flexible game.
- EDUCATIONAL GAMING: Count - Adding of up to 100 two-digit numbers. Estimate - Get used to chances. Concentration - Follow the course of the game and other player's turns.
- PLAYERS: For 2 - 8 players. AGE: From age 8 and up. GAME DURATION: about 30 minutes. LANGUAGES: English, Spanish, German, French, Italian. CONTENTS: 150 game cards, 1 game notepad, 1 manual. Made in Germany.
User questions & answers
Question: | do you shuffle cards in between each hand or wait until cards run out |
Answer: | We tend to shuffle the used cards after each hand, but I think you could also just wait until the cards run out. |
Question: | Would 9 and 11 year olds be able to play this |
Answer: | Absolutely. My 8 year old loves it, but it can be a long game so it may not be great for those who lose interest quickly. |
Question: | Can you play this game with just 2 players or is it more difficult with |
Answer: | Yes, you can play with 2 players and it is not more difficult. We do it all the time. My husband and I love this game and our 5 grandchildren love it as well. It is an easy game to teach them and it helps them learn strategic thinking. It's nice because we can help them if they need it since we can see their cards. Ages 4-8 |
Question: | I purchased this game; 3 of us have tried to read the directions and cant figure it out?? Can you give a brief description to help us play the game |
Answer: | The instructions were challenging! 3 people gave up on them before we decided to take it step by step and play it out. I 2nd the YouTube suggestion, that’s how we learn to play most new games we get, but basically: Arrange 12 cards facedown (for every player) in 4 rows of 3. Each player starts by flipping 2 of their cards face up. All other cards are in a draw pile (Flip 1 up for a discard pile, too). The goal is to have the lowest total points at the end of the round, Each player takes a turn...they can either draw from the draw pile or discard pile. If they draw from the discard pile, they must replace it with one of the 12 cards in front of them...either facedown or faceup cards. If they draw from the draw pile, after seeing the card they must decide if they want to keep it or discard it, depending on how high or low the card is (for example, if you have a 12 showing in front of you, and you draw a 2, you definitely want to keep the 2 and would probably replace the 12 you have showing instead of risking an unknown face down card). If you do not keep the card, you discard it but then flip up one of your face down cards. You keep going around the table trying to have the lowest number of points (card value) at the end. Once a person flips over their last facedown card, then everyone else gets 1 more turn and the round is over. 1 fun quirk of the game, if you have the same card in a column of 3 (three 12s in the same column, for example) then you discard the entire column (all three 12s) and those points no longer count against you. We love this game but the instructions were hard to follow at first. Good luck! |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the difference between this and the older version of this exact game (Monopoly Deal |
Answer: | The colours on the print of the 2008 version (red cards) and durability aren't as great as the 2013 version (green cards)Other than that the game itself is exactly the same. Hope this helps at all |
Question: | What is the diffeence between this one and black one that Amazon is selling for around |
Answer: | Monopoly Deal packaging design has changed since it first came out. We had the first one and now the latest one. It's the same game. The one on Amazon for around $11 says it includes a robot token that apparently you can use for the board game. The card game should be the same game. There is also a game called Monopoly Millionaire Deal, but that is a different game. |
Question: | do you need the board of monopoly for this |
Answer: | no, it's a card game, and totally independent from the original board game. It's very fast playing (15-30 minutes, approx). It is very different from the traditional game, but still very fun. |
Question: | This game states that its recommended for ages 8-99. Im 100 yrs old. Is there a particular reason why i should not get it, or ahoild i stick to bingo |
Answer: | If u were 100, u wouldnt know how to use computers/smartphones. #busted >> He/she has 15 great grandkids who type for him/her |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this game like Fluxx |
Answer: | No. Both games have rules that change, but that's where the similarity ends. Oh Fruck! is a shedding game, so the goal is always to be the first player to discard all of your cards. The Special Rules in Oh Fruck! make for a funny social party game. A big part of Oh Fruck! is busting other players when they "fruck" up and forget one of the Special Rules and have to take a card. |
Question: | How do I order another deck to play with more than 6 players |
Answer: | I just saw there are extension decks a available on Amazon. |
Question: | How does the blitz card work when played in oh fruck |
Answer: | The blitz card allows a player to continue discarding their cards in a single turn: "When you play this suited card, continue discarding, as long as each subsequent card matches the suit or rank of the previous card." Strategically, it's wise to hold on to this card until you can put together a sequence of cards that allows you to discard many or all of your cards. If the prior player plays a spade for example, and you have the spade blitz card, 5 of spades, 5 of clubs, 3 of clubs, and king of clubs, you could play all those cards in that order in one turn. |
Question: | If you have more than 6 players do you add another regular deck of cards to the mix or do I have to buy a second game? Thanks |
Answer: | When playing with more than 6 players, we suggest combining two OH FRUCK! Playing Card decks into a single 152-card deck. Use one set of 26 Special Rule cards. Include as many House Rule cards as you'd like. Then, deal fewer cards per player. For 7 players, deal 7 cards per player. For 8 players, deal 6 cards per player. For 9 players or more, deal 5 cards per player. |

Answer: | At the end of your turn, draw however many cards you need to get back up to three in your hand. The only time you don’t draw is if you have more than 3 cards in your hand (because you picked up the discard pile, because you couldn’t play a same number or higher number). Hope this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Could you play with only two people |
Answer: | If you use the official app that can generate all possible configurations of 9 red/blue, 8 blue/red, 7 bystanders, and 1 assassin, then you get 25C9*16C8*8C7 kinds of key cards *2 for swapping red and blue, you have 200 cards each with two sides that cannot be shown simultaneously: *400*398*396*394*....*354*352 and the position of the cards don't matter so / 25! = 6.382847706*10^50 or 638,284,770,600,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 possible states. For folks with spatial OCD that think position matters, remove the 25! and the answer is 9.90057*10^75. |
Question: | How many people can play this game? I am having 3 people |
Answer: | Having played this game (for the first time just yesterday), I really don't think that people will develop a "code". Kind of like Dixit, it is pretty free association for the images. Since the what, where, and who are random with a number of combinations and there are quite a few pictures, it will be very difficult to line up patterns all that much. I found it was pretty hard, in most cases, for the "ghost" to pick a good picture, so most of the selections were quite "out there". A lot of free association and using what other players were selecting to reduce the number of choices, it was a bit more possible to narrow things down.I believe that this will be a very replayable game but I also expect that after a few games, the players will get better at both picking pictures to associate and figuring out what the picture might mean, but not so much because of the selection of pictures but more because the thinking processes for both the ghost and the players will become more refine through learning how to pick.Overall, I find it to be a pretty good game.DaveBoardgames4us |
Question: | Can you order replacement cups? I see in one of the photos/video that you use your mouth to pick up the cup |
Answer: | I've played it as both a 2 player game and a 7 player party game. 7 player version is better, but it's fun enough as a two player game that it's one of our go to games for my husband and me. |
Question: | Can you buy replacement cups?? We cracked one already |
Answer: | Absolutely worth owning both. The gameplay mechanics and reasoning behind them are quite different. Whitechapel is about DEDUCTIVE reasoning based on Jack's hidden movement and trail. Players triangulate where the Jack player is based on where he has been. Sometimes there is only one solution. Pure logic. Mysterium's gameplay is all about INDUCTIVE reasoning. There can be more than one possible solution and gameplay is about getting inside another player's head to understand the solution they chose. Both Fabulous games. Mysterium is more accessible and family friendly. Non-gamers can get into it right away, while Whitechapel is more demanding. Whitechapel is more similar to Fury of Dracula, another great game that has just been republished. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this a good drinking uno dare game |
Answer: | Yes, a smart 7-year-old will definitely do fine at this game, but don't use the NSFW version of the game. |
Question: | What is they can’t complete the dare do they then pick the cards |
Answer: | We've only played with 4, but it says it's good for 2 people. Not sure how much fun it will be with just 2. I'd recommend it to start before bringing it out with more though. You know, to work out the kinks! |
Question: | What are some of your ideas for the Uno dares? (For example, howl like a wolf until next turn or play with underwear on your head until the end round |
Answer: | I think this is less about adults v children enjoying, and more about the type of game you enjoy playing. This is from the makers of exploding kittens and the Oatmeal web comic... if that is your type of humor, then that is step one. If you don't like that humor, this game will probably turn you off at the start. It's an odd one. Secondly, while the humor is similar, this is NOT exploding kittens, which could be described as a twisted UNO-style game. This is a slower-paced game with more strategy, where you need to think through what cards to play at a given time and need to pay attention to what others are laying down. If you could align this to an old-school game, it would be Rummy (or even Phase 10), where you are trying for particular combinations. Unlike rummy however, here you can also undo other players' combinations with certain decisions, setting them back. Adding or removing certain rules (both as described in the instructions and house-designed after playing a bit) can enhance playtime with the right group. It is fun with people who like that style of game. I've played with kids as young as 9 and adults as old as 65. More adults liked it than the kids, it just depends on the game style you like I think. |
Question: | Can you drink & play or are the dares already given |
Answer: | Hey there, thanks fur reaching out! While it might fun to play with real bears and babies, they are 100% not included or required to play this game! Actually, we strongly recommend not playing with real bears and babies because the babies would probably do some real damage to the bears, and we don't want to endanger them! Hope that helps! User questions & answers
Question: | Whats the difference between this box and the red box |
Answer: | I bought it for my 5 yeat old grandson so drink dares were not considered.:) There are blank dares that can be filled in so if you wanted to add something the cards are there. The dares are nothing very daring (why I thought it ok for a child.) There are things like "talk like a pirate" or "stand on one foot." I can see where adding "take a shot" would make those dares more amusing. We did not play it that way but the door is open. Note: there are only a couple of the open dare cards. If you want to include more drinking you may need to add it to the more innocuous dares. Ex: Talk like a pirate and take a shot of rum. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Considering for family with 4 teens, but 2 teens who speak only limited English (French is first language). Is there a lot of reading during the game |
Answer: | DON'T spend your money on this. It's crap. The cards are full of typos. Some are so poorly written, you can't even make sense of the text on the cards. We tried to play with this set and got so frustrated, we threw the whole box into the trash. |
Question: | What are the action cards |
Answer: | I drink water so I'm certain it is a great game its fun!!! |
Question: | What is the average length of playing time for 2 players. And more than 2 players |
Answer: | You choose the dare or pick up the cards. I guess if you didn't complete the dare then you would pick up the cards. Really fun game by the way. |
Question: | Is this game just like cover your assets by grandpa becks games |
Answer: | My husband and I made a kinky set of dares, you can also make a set of truths too |

User questions & answers
Question: | When do you get to throw the octopus |
Answer: | Our teens/young adults love this game. It's a picture matching game but there are action cards that require being able to read content. |
Question: | Does this include the octopus and is thi family friendly |
Answer: | The action cards help you use more strategy in the game. There are all kinds of action cards: some allow you to take a card from another player for use in your turn, allow you to have everyone pass their cards left/right, or even block an action card that another player is trying to play on you. Here is a great tutorial on how to play: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0tMr3oArZE |
Question: | It came with no instructions. Can they be sent to me |
Answer: | Thanks for asking! The game is better played with 3 players and up! It may be played with 2 players but we suggest you play with 5 cards in your hand instead of 4. The time to finish would be 25-30 mins. |
Question: | what is the difference between the family friendly and the explicit version |
Answer: | No, but we have heard people who have played Cover your Assets and Goat Lords that there are similarities, but what we have heard is that the ACTION CARDS in Goat Lords and some extra strategy adds so much more to the game! And that the theme is more fun! Most people have said after playing Goat Lords and getting used to the action cards, they tried to play cover your assets again but it got boring really fast. I'm sure Cover your Assets is a great game too, but that is just an opinion from a number of people who have played both! Hope you enjoy! |

designed for four or more players, that's what she said takes 30-60 minutes to play. unlike other party games, all the cards within the game are designed to work together to maximize the evening's hilarity and minimize those awkward well-that-wasn't-funny moments. also, after each round, players can discard one card that doesn't tickle their pickle (twss) and redraw to keep their hand funny and fresh. the player known to be the most twisted of the bunch is the first judge, and starts the game by reading a red setup card to the group, while the remaining players select the most hilarious card from their hand for consideration. the judge awards the winner the red setup card as a marker, and the first player to collect five setup cards wins.
