Answer:	A bit over 3" It's a great set and the box it comes in is perfect for transport or storage. Very good product, as I bought an additional one for a friend who taught me when I was young, (about 50 years ago)... :) and he loves it as well for portability, to take on trips, or to the pub while having a pint over a game... Perfect size as I hate the smaller form factor portables. Pieces store in a very firm foam cut interior, (think DSLR case). Extra queens have never been used though, as it will never get that far at our level... :)

Answer:	I'm debating on this item, but I do have a thought on the weight...What if you were to carefully take off the felt and add a matching size magnet w/glue and then replace the felt? Just a thought. Not sure if the size matters, lol, but maybe that would be easier to add weight vs. drilling any holes and risking cracking the wood...Great reviews so far, thanks people!!
