Answer:	I am a retired research chemist. invariably, melatonin is derived from monoclonal yeast bread to produce large amounts of melatonin. Whereas typical yeast will be typically low in melatonin, taking standard yeast is not the answer. The monoclonal yeast are designed to produce large amounts of melatonin, which is then extracted via a digestion in caustic, then liquid/liquid extracted. The chemical synthetic route to melatonin is costly and atypical of any product. Whereas I don't actually know the disposition of this particular product, it is unlikely synthetic.
