Answer:	There is a difference in the shapes and numbers of each of the pieces offered. SAME GREAT QUALITY! The 62 pc. set has: 20 triangles, 30 squares, and 12 hexagons. The 62 pc. Designer set has 20 triangles, 22 squares, 14 "tall" triangles, 4 diamonds, 2 trapezoids. The shapes my children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews use most are the triangles and the squares because there are more of them BUT that being said they can build so many MORE things using those in combination with the tall triangles, trapezoids, and hexagons. I have purchased both sets and, then, because Magformers also sells packages of multiple pieces of the same shape I've bought a package of the trapezoids, a package of hexagons (they come in the size included in the set as well as a larger size), a package of the tall triangles, and some of the new shapes they have just come out with this year. Doing this makes it possible for more children to play at the same time OR to make larger projects. Just a side note, each set comes with lots of great pictures of things you can build with the set which I laminated (so glad I did!!!) The pictures give the kids more ideas and it is amazing to see the creative things they come up with! I have had most of my Magformers for more than 5 years and not one has ever broken or lost its magnetism. They are expensive but I figure they will be a toy I can hand down for generations. A couple of months ago Amazon had a great sale on them which was almost 50% less than what they are on the site today. Five years ago I started with one of each of the Designer set and the NotDesigner set and then just watched for good sales and added to my collection gradually over the years. Other stores in your area may carry them and have occasional good sales you can watch for. My large container of Magformers is probably the most expensive toy in my family room BUT IT IS THE MOST PLAYED WITH by kids 3 to 60+ I hope this has helped.
