Answer:	The base is fairly large - approx 6" or so square, so it might not FIT easily on a bedside table or small bookshelf for example, but YES the light it gives off is rather suitable for a nightlight. To turn the light on and off you do have to take the top portion off (this does not wreck the puzzle), and slide a small switch. It does not plug in (batteries only), there is no dimmer or timer or any other such features. But the amount of light seems just right for a nightlight.

It's not huge so it can't fit tons of legos (my kids have buckets and buckets of them!) but you can fit a pretty good amount, hopefully enough to keep a lego fan entertained for awhile.
