Flux core leaves a nasty layer of slag that you'll constantly need to chip off, plus it has a tendency to either burn through or warp thin gauge metals if you try to run a constant bead. If you're dead set on going without the gas you can weld sheet metal by just making a series of tack welds until you eventually cover the entire joint. I personally would not want to weld sheet metal without gas, but if you have a lot of patience and you're careful, it can be done. |
