User questions & answers
Question: | Where are these manufactured |
Answer: | I believe they are made in the good old USA. I would not have bought them otherwise. Very good cables! |
Question: | What is the best bag to buy with these; the one they recommend |
Answer: | As another buyer stated, see nB's review, though it is now shipped in a thick cardboard box rather than in a cheap plastic case. The Ergodyne Arsenal 5888 cable organizer bag fits just right for the 25 ft 4 gauge set from Forney (52873). A thicker gauge cable might fit, but it will be a bit tricky/burdensome... I mainly chose the Ergodyne bag because the inside is insulated in that no air/opening comes through from the outside, unlike some of the fabrics in cable bags. |
Question: | It says - replacement clamps - what does that mean? The AD shows parrot clamps, but a reviews show what appears lower quality plastic wrap clamp |
Answer: | The set that I got are high quality very very good cables have no complaints |
Question: | are these cables linked together or are they separate wires |
Answer: | The #52872 set I purchased was linked but when go on Forney's site it looks like they might be single now. The #52877 set I purchased was not linked. I hope this helps. Thanks,Jim |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is shrink tube necessary if you get a clean crimp without wire exposed |
Answer: | no |
Question: | Will they accept big #2 cable |
Answer: | They will accept #2 cable. Copper coated? I don't know. |
Question: | Hi. What is the maximum width the clamps can open to |
Answer: | Maximum opening distance (at the tip) is 1-1/2". Then it tapers back as you approach the pivot pin. |
Question: | hi, i see the picture of these clamps, does these clamps have extra zig zag copper teeth in catching area |
Answer: | Hello, the pictures show the only teeth on the clamps, the chrome plated teeth, there aren't any more teeth such as you find inside some of the better clamps where there is a copper subframe with clamping teeth at one end and a lug at the other end of the subframe for attaching the cable. In these clamps there is a short copper lug that screws onto the inside of the chrome-plated clamp and that crimps onto the bare cable end, you can see the lug in the pictures. They work well but I'd prefer a complete copper subframe from the clamping teeth to the crimp lugs, I've seen those on completed cables but haven't found do-it-yourself clamps like that. I routed the cables under the spring ends inside the clamps to hold down the cables near the crimps for some extra strain-relief. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Product information lists the shipping weight as 11.4 pounds. Are these cables really that heavy or just over packaged |
Answer: | The cables weigh 11.45 Lbs. in their original packaging and the product itself weighs 10.35 Lbs. |
Question: | What package does this come in with? Is there a case |
Answer: | I assumed that the only carrying case was the cardboard box with handle, so I ordered a carrying bag. Lo and behold, my cables were in a plastic bag with sturdy handle, (inside the box with the handle) with one side transparent. Very impressed with the packaging. |
Question: | Are they made in USA |
Answer: | Box says "made in China". Works great on my '62 Caddy my '09 VW Tiguan and my '99 Camry. I figured they must be good for American, German and Japanese cars. |
Question: | What is copper clad aluminum? Is it copper or aluminum |
Answer: | Most of the answers already posted to this question, have clearly pointed out that important differences between copper clad aluminum (CCA) and pure copper conductors. Especially the highly detailed answer by “The Undisclosed”. These jumper cables are designed for designed for automotive applications. However, there’s another point to consider when comparing the benefits of 100% copper over aluminum and all other variations. The electrical wiring used in the construction of the houses we live in is the most important from a safety standpoint and is also another good example of the difference in electrical conductors. The cost of producing copper reached an outrageously high amount during the seventies. It suddenly became one of the most expensive materials used in the construction of new residential and commercial building projects. Aluminum wiring became an inexpensive alternative to the much higher priced copper wiring and was used extensively in new construction. Everything seemed fine UNTIL relatively new homes started burning down. The cause of these fires was quickly linked to the all aluminum wiring being used. The reason why has already been explained in the other answers but in a nutshell, the aluminum wiring is such a poor conductor of electrical current that anywhere the aluminum conductors were cut and spliced or connected to a switch or outlet, extra measures had to be taken to ensure the connection point was tightly secured. If the electrical bonding point was loose then it would become a point of high electrical resistance resulting in a dangerous increase in temperature at that point. High enough to cause combustion with any flammable materials in the immediate vicinity. The problem was quickly dealt with by the construction industry banning the use of all aluminum wiring. Copper clad aluminum or CCA became an acceptable compromise for wiring in most types of new construction. It’s the process of coating aluminum conductors with a thin layer of copper to improve its ability to conduct electricity. It costs considerably less than pure copper and with projects that require hundreds or even thousands of feet of wiring, it can substantially reduce the overall cost. But knowing the technical differences between the two, I prefer 100% copper regardless of the price. |

User questions & answers
Question: | are the jumping cables "ul" listed ?........and how many amps do they crank |
Answer: | I didnt see an "Underwriters Laboratory" which means they didnt pay the fee lol.. rest assured these cables will handle ANY AUTOMOTIVE amp you throw at them Including A tractor trailer jump! |
Question: | Is the wire really 2 gauge |
Answer: | Keep in mind these are copper CLAD aluminum cables! For jumper cables that might be fine but for Jon S. Cutting off the clamps and using them for a winch...no. No matter how good the clamping of new connectors moisture and corrosive road salt with 'dissolve' (actually just totally turn to powder) the aluminum. Had some Harbor Freight electric winch battery cables that when I stripped the insulation back the cable had corroded (as aluminum will do) had turned to powder with just the very thin copper cladding left. Price 2 Guage all copper stranded or solid copper wire and you will lay down over $100. Please don't use these for winch battery leads. |
Question: | Do these come with a carry bag |
Answer: | It just has a cheap plastic bag its packed in. No "carry bag" The Cables ARE heavy duty A carry bag should not Be the deciding factor whether to buy lol |

User questions & answers
Question: | What size cable clamp do I use for 1/8 inch wire with 3/16 inch vinyl sleeve |
Answer: | I think it would be a good choice. I used it to hang lights as well. The cable itself is galvanized so don't think you would have issues even when cut. If you wanted to be sure you could always spray some silver paint over the cut end. Good luck. |
Question: | I intend to use this for hanging string lights over the pool, is it a good choice? it won't rust? how do i protect tip of the cable where i cut it |
Answer: | Yes. It would be perfect for a dog run. |
Question: | Is the cable pliable enough for use for a dog run/dog tethering |
Answer: | When dealing with vinyl coated wire rope, the first number is the diameter of the cable without the vinyl coating (3/16"). The second number is the diameter of the cable WITH the vinyl coating (1/4"). So the answer to your question is 3/16". |
Question: | The descrption says..3/16-Inch - 1/4-Inch |
Answer: | Yes. |

Question: | How long of a warranty |
Answer: | No. Should work right out of the box. It is defective. Return under the warranty. |
Question: | Is the 200 amp setting manaul or automatic? I want to be able to keep the chager on the 200 amp setting and not have it shut off until I'm ready for i |
Answer: | Yes it opens vertically so wherever you place it, there must be almost as much empty space above it as the height of the player. I wish I had known this before purchasing because I got it to put in a bookcase. I couldn't use it there because the shelves are in fixed positions and none are spaced far enough apart to use it there. |
