Question:	What are the J2 pins for
Answer:	J2 is a connection for external switches, in case you don't want to use the switches on the circuit board.
Question:	mine didn't come with any instructions, does anyone have a link
Answer:	I don't know of a link specifically for this module. If you Google the part, you can go to various images using the brown sub-board, but not installed on this main board. I got mine working by doing the following. After installing all of the green board components, you need to solder the sub-board to the green board. The black dot on the sub board faces toward the switches. Align the sub-board solder pads with the green board pads and solder the two together, with the sub-board perpendicular to the green board. Then you will notice two little holes at the top of the sub-board, on the back side. You need to run a jumper wire from the sub-board hole, to the hole directly below it, on the green board. It will not work without these two jumpers. As for the rest of the assembly, l used the illustrations as shown on the Amazon page, for placement of the other components. Be sure to observe the ic's are the right number and the notch at the end of the ic faces away from sub-board. One ic is a 4066 and the other, next to the switches, is the 4011. Also observe D1, D2, & D3 black/white bands are toward the sub-board. The sounder + mark should be next to D1. The flat side of transistor Q1 should face away from the sub-board. The battery +/- hooks up by the flat side of the transistor. I used 3 AA batteries in series. A 5 volt supply well work. I wouldn't go much higher than 5 volts. I don't think the sub-board will take it. Don't use too much heat when soldering, so as to damage the components or circuit board. Solder bridges can also be a problem, when soldering the switches. It's a neat little circuit, when you get done. Good luck.
Question:	What type of power supply does it need batteries? Or other source
Answer:	I ran mine with 3 AA batteries in series or about 5 volts. Plenty loud enough.
Question:	Is it possible to run this off of a 9v battery by soldering leads to it? If not, can another battery connection be soldered to it
Answer:	Hi sir, it can only run off a 5V(max) battery. You can solder leads on the "VCC and GND" displayed on the PCB board. While there is no mounting hole on the PCB board, we don't recommend the battery box soldered to this module kit. Any questions, plz feel free to contact us.

Answer:	The smd components were already on the board. All the through hole components are loose on arrival. (Not loose, they are packaged, but I I had to install and solder them on)

Answer:	Don't know, but the parts placement is right on the board so it's not really necessary. Note for capacitors, the solid white screen terminal is ground (negative post).

LCD1602 Display module

LCD1602 module is a display that has an LED backlight and can display two rows with up to 16 characters on each row. You can see the rectangles for each character on the display and the pixels that make up each character. The display is just white on blue and is intended for showing text.

Lining up the display with the top of the breadboard helps to identify its pins without too much counting, especially if the breadboard has its rows numbered with row 1 as the top row of the board. Do not forget, the long yellow lead that links the slider of the pot to pin 3 of the display. The 'pot' is used to control the contrast of the display.

DC Motors and L293D Transistor

In this project you will learn how to control a small DC motor using a Mega2560 board and a L293D transistor, which is a very useful chip. It can actually control two motors independently. We are just using half the chip in this lesson, most of the pins on the right hand side of the chip are for controlling a second motor.

L293D is quadruple high-current half-H drivers and designed to provide bidirectional drive currents of up to 1 A at voltages from 4.5 V to 36 V. The L293D is also designed to provide bidirectional drive currents of up to 600-mA at voltages from 4.5 V to 36 V and drive inductive loads such as relays, solenoids, dc and bipolar stepping motors, as well as other high-current/high-voltage loads in positive-supply applications.

74HC595 Shift Register and LEDs

74HC595 is a Serial to Parallel Converter which has eight outputs (perfect) and three inputs that you use to feed data into it a bit at a time.

This chip makes it a little slower to drive the LEDs (you can only change the LEDs about 500,000 times a second instead of 8,000,000 a second) but it's still really fast, way faster than humans can detect, so it's worth it!

74HC595 shift register is a type of chip that holds what can be thought of as eight memory locations, each of which can either be a 1 or a 0. To set each of these values on or off, we feed in the data using the 'Data' and 'Clock' pins of the chip.
