The X-Series earmuffs are 3M’s latest advancement in hearing conservation. New technologies in comfort, design and protection all come together in this groundbreaking earmuff line. The X4A earmuffs offer a NRR (27 dB) which makes them ideal for moderate to high noise situations. The X4A utilizes a newly designed spacer, specially formulated foam liners and innovative ear cushions to help improve attenuation. It features an electrically insulated wire headband, often referred to as “dielectric”. When correctly selected and worn, these products help reduce exposure to hazardous levels of noise. 3M PELTOR HYX4 Hygiene Kit offer replaceable ear cushions and foam liners to help keep your earmuffs clean and extend the service life. The 3M PELTOR X Series earmuffs are ideal for protection against noise arising from a wide range of applications in the workplace. Examples of typical applications include: metal processing, automotive, airports, construction, textile manufacturing, chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing, cement manufacturing, printing, woodworking, heavy engineering, foundry, steelworks, and mining and quarrying. Also available in hard hat attachment model: 3M PELTOR XSeries CapMount Ear Muffs X4P3E. NOTE: The X-Series (over-the-head) headband version is electrically insulated -sometimes referred to as “dielectric”. The metal components of the headband have been covered by non-conductive material for use in a low voltage electrical hazard (less than 440 V ac). As there are no applicable standards for testing ear muffs against electrical insulating properties, the product has been evaluated at an external laboratory against a modified test method based on EN397: 1995. During assessment, the leakage current did not exceed 1. 2mA when the external surface of the product made contact with an electrical source. The user must determine the overall suitability of this product for the intended application taking into account all relevant hazards. Disclaimer: 3M industrial and occupational products are intended, labeled, and packaged for sale to trained industrial and occupational customers for workplace use.

User questions & answers
Question: | How adjustable are these earmuffs? I have a fairly large head and usually need to make average headphones as big as they can get. Will these fit me |
Answer: | The ear pieces are adjustable (you can make them higher or lower, but the plastic band that fits around the head is not adjustable. I am a woman with a small head and these earmuffs are too tight for me. It feels like too much pressure on my head. I don't understand how men with larger heads can find them comforable. They are too tight for me to wear. |
Question: | Will these fit comfortably on a person with a very large (7-5/8) sized head |
Answer: | These will not adjust to fit my ears and cause ear pain after 30 minutes or so. I have 7 3/4 hat size. |
Question: | Will these block out the shrill screaming of little children playing beneath my 3rd floor window |
Answer: | These earmuffs will block out a majority of noises but the sound of human voices can still come through. What I do is wear a Bluetooth neckband headset (earbuds go into ears but mic is on the neckband part) then wear these earmuffs over that. That way I can either listen to music, still take phone calls (having the mic on the neckband part instead of the earbuds are the key) or my favorite is to use an adjustable white-noise app like myNoise on my iPhone to drown-out voices. Works great but it can get warm wearing these earmuffs and they fit my melon of a head fairly tightly so it may not be comfortable for long use. |
Question: | Would these be suitable to wear for sleeping in a noisy college environment? Are they comfortable enough or is it kind of overkill |
Answer: | That depends on how noisy the environment is and how badly you need noise-reduction. To the nay sayers: I've been sleeping with hearing protectors of various types, including EAR, 3M Peltor (98, 105, and soon these) for years > 35 years. The problem (not "issue", "PROBLEM")--regardless of sleeping on one's side or back--is that eventually the ear-muffs become uncomfortable. Depending on how tired on is, and how much localized discomfort one can ignore for how long, one can sleep with earmuffs on, sleeping either on either side or on one's back. However, sleeping on either side, using the muffs as a "pillow" will increase the pressure of the cushions on one's head and thus the discomfort and shorten the amount of time it takes for the localized discomfort to awaken one. One can take two small pillows place them together forming a partial triangle, and still support most of one's head with those pillows, instead of the ear-muffs. One can buy an U-shaped neck-supporter and do the same. One take a firm foam pillow and cut a hole in it the size of the ear-muffs. It all really depends . . . . . . (like I said above). One can also--and I've done this for years--use foam earplugs under an ear-muff. One can--if one is very, very careful--use wax earplugs on top of foam earplugs; however, the risk of jamming the foam too far into the ear and causing damage or an infection is increased drastically. One can--I have been doing this for years--is to use all three: foam earplugs, carefully covered with wax earplugs, then a set of earmuffs on top. I also use a set of passive-noise-reducing in-ear earphones (commonly called "buds", regularly used with other equipment as IEMs, In Ear Monitors), along with earmuffs, when I want to play acoustic drums (very loud in a small, highly reverberant room) and sing along with recorded accompaniment. I also do this when I want to play (and sometimes sing) with bass guitar (using a mixer's headphone output rather than an amp), when I play (and often sing along with) my ukulele, etc. Sometimes I do this to get a better indication of how the actual electric or acoustic-electric instrument sounds non-acoustically (in preparation for recording, for pleasure, etc.). Mostly, I do it to keep my noise-level down, for my benefit and for my 87-year old landlord/mother's benefit. All these previous remedies utilize passive noise-reduction. However, one can also use ACTIVE noise-canceling earplugs or headphones (earplugs work best). For example, when I drum and want to sing along with pre-recorded tracks, I sometimes use a set of active noise-reducing ear "buds". Years ago--until I broke the cable which my increasingly sluggish fingers don't like fixing with a soldering iron--I used active noise-reducing headphones. They were very interesting as they don't reduce lower frequencies as well as they reduce higher frequencie (also a characteristic of passive attenuators): I could hear car engines start up from the stop-sign about 15-18 meters from my bedroom, then, when the engine RMPs got high enough, the noise would be reduced by about 25 dB and the cars very instantly got much quieter. So much in fact, that I got used to having noisy cars (or trucks, or motorcycles) wake me up when going away from the stop sign, but, then fall back asleep almost instantly when the active headphones noise-reduction circuits took over. Finally, one can do the following by itself or in conjunction with the other methods, if circumstances allow. Play pink noise through speakers. Or, using a CD/MP3 player with surf noises playing. The relatively constant noise does add to the total noise, but, since it is relatively constant, it effectively reduces the peaks in the other noises making them less noticeable. Be advised, however, that this still increases your daily noise-exposure, meaning your ears will wear out faster, which is why I no longer use this technique. Also, when using foam plugs, one must be aware of whether they're made of PVC or latex foams as some of us--myself included--are allergic to latex and will suffer in one manner or another whenever we use the wrong type of foam. Finally, whenever one uses foam earplugs (wax plugs should never be inserted into the ear canal), one's ear will react to the foam as foreign-matter and produce more wax. This is also true for flanged earphones, flanged passive or active noise-reducing earplugs, essentially for anything you stick in you ear for more than a few seconds. Thus, you will have to clean your ears out more often. But, that's another "story".:D |

User questions & answers
Question: | Using these in a machine shop setting, can you still converse with shop mates as needed |
Answer: | Not unless it is far away. It blocks enough noise so that your hearing isn't damaged if you use power tools, etc., but you can still hear what people are saying when you have them on. If the idea is to wear them when sleeping to block out noise, it might mostly do that but would be really uncomfortable. If that's the objective, I'd get a noise machine or a loud fan. |
Question: | Are these made in the USA |
Answer: | Short answer is yes. It will block out 20 dB of the sound. 80 dB is about as loud as an average vacuum cleaner. Take off 28 dB and you would still hear the equivalent of loud speech. Hope this helps. |
Question: | Is the wire on earmuffs stainless steel |
Answer: | Good question, i use them in my workshop all the time. It is important to hear how a saw or router is running while you are using it, with these i can still hear them running but they dampen the harsh piercing volume and pitch. Hope this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What's the country of manufacture? Why isn't it shown in products detail? I don't wanna return stuff that find out later. Fl bad for seller shp costs |
Answer: | It's made where everything else in America is made but who cares, they work great, one of the highest rated noise protection headphones out there and I own 3 sets, would buy again. If I stopped buying overseas products, I would be living in a half built house, no furniture or appliances and going to work on a donkey. Buy it and move on. |
Question: | Does this work on cutting out bass sounds from music? my neighbors blast very loud music and i just hear the boom boom boom of the bass for hours |
Answer: | This will reduce bass best if worn properly. Put ears entirely inside the two cups. I wear this all the time at very loud karaoke venues. Will not entirely get rid of bass. For best bass reduction, get an noise cancellation headphone. |
Question: | How well do they block out conversation, loud voices and laughter |
Answer: | It cuts all sounds significantly, but primarily, it's designed to block sudden burst of loud bang. By design, it's friendly to the human voice frequencies so people can still communicate. If you want to really silence vocal range, try ear plugs. |
Question: | What's the difference with other same products |
Answer: | they cancel a lot more noise -- better fit -- some time its hard to hear conversations -- they just work great -- best to protect what little hearing I have left |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will these work with a safari brum hard hat |
Answer: | The can has a very heavy thick band of synthetic material sealing the can (not shown in the picture). I tried prying it off, cutting it off, sawing it off. I gave up. I was going to injure myself in the process. I bought Dry Lock at Home Depot and this unopened paint is in my garage. Ridiculous packaging. Grrrrr |
Question: | These are listed as Active Noise Reduction, how is that possible without batteries |
Answer: | It is a Latex (water based) product therefore, if the wall is very wet the product will simply wash off before drying. I would recommend correcting the severe water impingement prior to coating the walls. Once dry this is an excellent product and covers very well. |
Question: | Will these cancel any music from really noisy neighbors? like neighbors having a party |
Answer: | It stops small leaks and seepage in basement walls extremely well. I don't know how it would react on a swimming pool. Wish I could have been more help to you. Good Luck |
Question: | It says the dimensions are 8x8x8. Can it really be true that they are 8" deep front to back? Aren't they 8x6x |
Answer: | Covers 75 to 125 sq. ft per gallon depending on surface porosity. |

Question: | Are these good for the gun range |
Answer: | Other than they are bulky and would interfere with shooting rifles, I don't see why not. You should check the decibel reduction to see if it's sufficient for gun fire. |
Question: | is the gel pad worth the extra $30 over the other bluetooth version |
Answer: | After buying the gel pad version, I picked up a used 3M headphone at Savers for $7.99 (!!!). This one had regular earpads, and was already charged when I took it home. One drawback of the gel version is the weight! They weigh 398 gms versus 346 gms of the one with regular pads. In comparison, my MPOW Bluetooth noise cancelling headphones weigh 266 gms. The gel pads are taller and roomier so there is more room for your ears. With the regular pad version, part of my ear touches the inside of the earmuff, but nothing major. I can confirm the gel pad version does seem to be 1 dB less NRR than the regular pads. For me, I returned the gel pad version and got a refund for $64, and will just get by with the Savers one for now (Ha Ha). If I were to buy a new one, I'd get the regular pad version. |
Question: | could these be used/worn in a c1d1 facility |
Answer: | C1D1 is explosion proof. I have customers who wear similar style ear muffs in their C1D1 labs without any issues. |

Question: | Hello All can anyone tell me which replacement ear pieces you use for these head phones |
Answer: | Yes. They fit my big head at around size 7 1/2. They adjust. The metal rods pull out of the plastic that attaches to the ears. The rods don't pull out of the headband at the top. I was lucky I did not break anything trying to pull the rods out of the top. |
Question: | does this unit have 1/8 plug capacity |
Answer: | In order to use your MP3 player you must use a headphone jack. Wireless means they are Bluetooth compatible. |
Question: | Does the worktunes bluetooth model have an aux in jack for connecting to a wired audio source |
Answer: | There are 2 concepts here: 1) the type of signal transmitted (sent in digital format or analog format) and 2) the method of reception (analog tuner or digital tuner), This subject is confusing because both of these concepts use the terms digital and analog and people cross mix what they are referring to. This 3m WorkTunes does not receive digital format signals. This receives analog format signals (just like most of our car radios for local radio stations (note, Sirius XM is digital format) (old cars had analog tuners receiving analog format signals). Another way to say it: This headphone's method of reception uses a "digital tuner" to select the exact frequency of analog format transmissions from FM/AM stations. (It does not receive digital format transmissions from FM/AM stations) What it does digitally is set the frequency to the exact frequency and it stays there. With an analog tuner, it is hard to get to the exact frequency and it can drift up and down from the frequency you stopped at. There is no drift in a digital tuner. Digital tuning is the best for this application as it stays on the frequency you want no matter what. Now to answer your question "Is there no station fading". This refers to "digital transmission type" (which you always hear the station 100% or you hear nothing). Since, these headphones only receive "analog transmission types", then YES, you will have fading (because you will hear everything from 100% to 1%). |
Question: | How long is the battery life when Using Bluetooth |
Answer: | The blue tooth simply is not loud houseboy if I am in place where I am using a saw etc forget it I cont even hear it. It doesn't matter if I am hooked with my ophone, the TV, fire stick whatever, it is these headphone that artificially lower the Bluetooth volume. Anything connected to can be put on 100% it doesn't matter. 100% volume using the headphones and 100% volume on anything hooked to it through Bluetooth and it just is not loud enough unless I am doing nothing at all, meaning why have the headphone on in the first place. No way they are loud enough using a mower without straining to even hear what is being played. It really stinks that 50% of what is playing I cant hear over Bluetooth while using these. I have 4 pair over the years and they are all the same. It stupid I think they are trying to pretext our hearing. BUT the FM is ten time louder! |

Product description
The X-Series earmuffs are 3M’s latest advancement in hearing conservation. New technologies in comfort, design and protection all come together in this groundbreaking earmuff line. The X3A earmuffs offer a NRR (28 dB) which makes them ideal for moderate to high noise situations. The X3A features a newly designed spacer to help improve attenuation without the need for a much larger cup or double cup design. This lightweight earmuff is designed for protection against high H-level industrial noise and other loud sounds. It features an electrically insulated wire headband, often referred to as “dielectric”. When correctly selected and worn, these products help reduce exposure to hazardous levels of noise. 3M PELTOR HYX3 Hygiene Kit offer replaceable ear cushions and foam liners to help keep your earmuffs clean and extend the service life. Also available in hard hat attachment model: 3M PELTOR XSeries CapMount Ear Muffs X3P3E. Unless specifically stated otherwise on the applicable product packaging or literature, these products are not intended, labeled, or packaged for sale to or use by consumers (e. g. , for home, personal, primary or secondary school, recreational/sporting, or other uses not described in the applicable product packaging or literature), and must be selected and used in compliance with applicable health and safety regulations and standards (e. g. , U. S. OSHA, ANSI), as well as all product literature, user instructions, warnings, and limitations. Misuse of 3M industrial and occupational products may result in injury, sickness, or death. For help with product selection and use, consult your on-site safety professional, industrial hygienist, or other subject matter expert. *3M strongly recommends fit testing of hearing protectors. Research suggests that many users will receive less noise reduction than indicated by the NRR due to variation in hearing protector fit, fitting skill, and motivation of the user. If the NRR is used, 3M recommends that it be reduced by 50% or in accordance with applicable regulations. 3M PSD products are for occupational use only.

User questions & answers
Question: | i have seen different sound cancellation levels for these earmuffs and wonder which one would be best - primarily for woodworking (large table saw etc |
Answer: | I would think that you would want one that supports up to 22db or higher. |
Question: | Will these work for a 7 year old at a fireworks display. My child can't tolerate the noise |
Answer: | Voices can still be heard wearing these. Research the decibel levels of fireworks, voice, and the level these block out. The child could wear foam earplugs inside the ear in addition to these to block out more noise. Wearing for long periods of time on a warm day makes sweat pool somewhat. They do have some weight to them. I would guess that if the 7 year old is very sensitive to sound, he or she would not like wearing them for more than a few minutes because of the slight weight, potential sweat factor, and having to wear ear plugs in the ear too. |
Question: | Can pads and foam inserts be washed and reused? Instructions say wash outside only, and re-purchase new pads and foam inserts ($11.72) twice per year |
Answer: | You can certainly wash the dampers/foam padding. Just use soap and water on the ear seals/ cushions. I've washed my foam padding many times. Just don't submerge the ear seals/cushions. |
Question: | Would these work for a drummer |
Answer: | They might work a little too well. I use mine in my shop and although they do not totally block out the noise from my machines, in my opinion they would block too much for a musician. Unless you are planted in front of an amp-stack you may not hear enough of your group to play well. On the other hand, if you are in a room alone practicing for hours on end, they might be just the ticket to save your ears. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How effective are these on a gun range, specifically for trap shooting |
Answer: | Competition trap shooter here. This is actually a preference. These will work very good and I would recommend them. I generally prefer the in ear plugs. Try these: http://www.amazon.com/Surefire-Defenders-Filtered-Earplugs-Medium/dp/B009T9QXXQ/ref=pd_ys_sf_s_rp_a1_3_p?ie=UTF8&refRID=0R62G96H6W0FQMJAYHXMI use these for all my shoots and I've tried many different ones and these are the best in my opinion. Good luck. |
Question: | Would these block out someone talking |
Answer: | Depends on how loud the person is. They are pretty good with blocking sound. I have to yell for my son to hear me if he's wearing them. Normal talk is pretty hard to hear. |
Question: | snoring |
Answer: | Everyone who snores should consider whether they could have obstructive sleep apnea. It's easily treatable, but dangerous to ignore. Have you listened to their breathing even they've been asleep for a few hours? If you hear several seconds of silence in the snoring, they need an evaluation. |
Question: | I want to get this for use in the office. I hear everything from birds, keyboarding to footsteps. Earplugs are a pain. Would you recommend a pair |
Answer: | Nope - They are designed to cut out noise at higher levels. Solid earplugs are best to cut out noise from birds, footsteps, keyboards (even loud breathing). With these earmuffs you will likely still hear these "quiet sounds". Now if you are around leaf blowers, lawn tractors, heavy machinery, .50 caliber guns, or the like you will be happy with the comfort level that these muffs provide! |

The 3M PELTOR EEP-100 Electronic Earplugs are built tough for the working professional. They help provide protection when it’s loud, but allows you to hear normally when it’s not. Ambient sounds can be heard at a level below 82dB. Improves your ability to communicate with nearby colleagues, as well as hearing warning signals, approaching vehicles, or sounds in machines and processes. Speech and weak signals can be amplified helping to enable face-to-face communication between workers without earplug removal. Ideally suited when there is intermittent, varying and/or unpredictable noise; if you are removing your hearing protection to communicate; where enhanced situational awareness is required (e. g. moving vehicles/equipment are present, alarms need to be heard, for maintenance personnel); or if you regularly move between loud and quiet areas. Applications might include road/building construction, maintenance, general/heavy manufacturing, airport ground crew, forklift drivers, and auto body shops. The small and lightweight design helps improve the overall comfort and user experience and makes it compatible with most head borne Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as helmets, hardhats, and eyewear and face shields. The earpieces are rechargeable via a micro-USB jack on the pocket-sized charging case. The case also provides easy and convenient storage of the earpieces when not being used. Kit contains portable charging case, 1 pair 3M PELTOR Electronic Earplugs, 1 pair 3M PELTOR Ultra Fit Ear tips Small (23dB), 1 pair 3M PELTOR Ultra Fit Ear tips Medium (23dB), 1 pair 3M PELTOR Ultra Fit Ear tips Large (23dB), 1 pair 3M PELTOR Triple C Ear tips (27dB), USB charging cable, and user instructions. 3M strongly recommends individual fit testing of hearing protectors. If the NRR is used to estimate typical workplace protection, 3M recommends that the noise reduction value be reduced by 50% or in accordance with applicable regulations.

User questions & answers
Question: | Do these turn off automatically |
Answer: | I use the +/- buttons on the right earbud when paired. If pairing to a device, you can also lower the volume on the device itself. |
Question: | I work in a room with loud ambient noise but I still want to hear conversation, would these work |
Answer: | Match the right size to your ear, and no real worries. As long as you don't catch it on anything they do fine. Jump rope/100m sprints, 2 mile runs, push ups, and sit ups. They haven't let me down yet personally. |
Question: | Are they osha approved |
Answer: | I had issues where people were reporting that I sounded like I was talking on speakerphone from across the room. I contacted Letscom about how to improve the microphone and this was their reply, "We are sorry that your device isn't working as anticipated. U8I is designed for sports rather than talking on the phone. I would suggest to hold the one of the earbuds closer to her mouth to use as micphone mainly while speaking on the phone. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. If you have any more questions please feel free to contact us." Based on that response, I don't suggest purchasing these if you need people to hear you well on calls. Keep looking elsewhere. |
Question: | What’s the overall lifespan of the battery |
Answer: | Hi, please follow these steps to pair your phone: 1. Turn on the Bluetooth of your Phone or other Bluetooth devices. 2. Turn on the headphones when they are in shutdown state(lone press “MFB button”) and the headphones enter pairing mode(indictor rapidly flashes red and blue alternately) 3. In the list of found Bluetooth devices in your phone or Bluetooth devices, choose “LETSCOM U8I” to pair. 4. If your phone asks you to enter a code to pair, please enter “0000” or ”1234”. Warm tips: if failed, please reboot your phone and headphones, follow tht steps above again.
